If this is wrong or premature to post, I'll edit. Here's my list:

"Here's my list, give or take another twenty or so.

1. Charles Schulz
2. Will Eisner
3. Carl Barks
4. Osamu Tezaka
5. Herblock
6. Walt Kelly
7. Pat Oliphant
8. Tom Toles
9. Winsor McCay
10. Stan Sakai"

Your list is invalid as it does not have Milton Caniff on it.

Speaking of Barks stuff.

Ok, not Barks stuff, but Gottfredson stuff. I read Gladstone Album #17 this weekend.

Fairly minor work (scripted by Bill Walsh) but overall, enjoyable.

I really wish that somebody would come out with affordable chronological reprints of Barks' and Gottfredson's work.

Nice. I'm still looking to find more of Gottfredson's work myself. I don't think they've ever done all of his newspaper strips chronologically yet (or at least I've never seen any such collection). Barks has been reprinted in complete form, at least once, perhaps twice by Gladstone/Another Rainbow. In any case, I have a book set aside for you Slam, whenever our paths cross. All the best Gottfredson stories. It's there with the stuff for your kids for the Boise State hat you sent.

I wonder about what I wondered last time.

I still haven't read Pogo.

Getting to it soon now that they have the nice trades out. Maybe when I do, Kelly will make my list. Maybe he won't.

Am I in trouble for not having Kelly on my list because I haven't read it yet? As one of many examples of my ignorance

Where Schulz defined sensitivity, thoughtfulness and spirituality to comics, Kelly equalled him as a wordsmith. I got lucky on eBay before eBay became eBay. Still wasn't cheap. I think Gottfredson HAS been completely reprinted year-by-year, only in Italian. I may have to check my boxes on that one, because I might have it. Not that it helps either of us, paisano.

I can almost accept that.

Top tens always leave me frustrated, because I have to leave too many good ones out. It's like picking an appetizer instead of a four course meal. Milton Caniff, Burne Hogarth, Hal Foster, Rube Goldberg, Lee Falk, Al Capp, George Herriman, Frank King, Elzie Segar, Floyd Gottfredson, etc., etc. Tough not to pick a top ten from that strip era alone.

Kelly comes in a very close second to Caniff for me.

AUGUST 16--Meet Jonathan Lee Riches. The federal prisoner/habitual litigant recently scored headlines with his insane $63 billion lawsuit against Michael Vick (who allegedly stole Riches's dogs, sold them on eBay, and used the proceeds to buy weapons from the Iranian government). Riches, who is doing a decade in prison for fraud, is at it again, this time filing a loony--though quite funny--complaint again Barry Bonds, baseball commissioner Bud Selig, and Hank Aaron's bat. In his lawsuit, Riches, pictured in the below mug shot, weaves an intricate conspiracy theory involving television ratings, steroids, the cracking of the Liberty Bell, Colombian narco-terrorists, and secretly recorded conversations for which journalists Robert Novak and Judith Miller have transcripts. A copy of the Bonds complaint can be found here. Riches's August 13 lawsuit, which he filed in U.S. District Court in Indiana, is the 17th federal complaint he has filed since January 2006. Imprisoned in South Carolina, Riches has filed his lawsuits in 15 separate federal jurisdictions, presumably moving state-to-state to avoid sanctions over the filing of frivolous actions. (5 pages)

Nice! That'll have to go on my Christmas list. I was just thinking last week how with all these classic strip archival projects, why haven't I seen one for Terry and the Pirates (a strip I've only seen very small portions of).

Does IDW do fairly well financially?

Whenever I start buying a series like this I worry they'll go bankrupt before they finish the set? I don't really worry about Fantagraphics or D&Q, but I'm not very familiar with IDW.

I'm going to have a really hard time not comparing this to Leonard's short story. It is one of the best short westerns I've ever read. Hard for the film to live up to it. I'll try to judge the film on its own merits, but it won't be easy.

It was also a movie from 1957 starring Glenn Ford (Jonathan Kent from 70's Superman).

I've been assigned a regular therapist & psychiatrist, but I don't start with them until September 12th. I'll check in with the crisis (not on infinite earths) clinic each week until then.Did I ever mention that my first dose on anti-depressants was the evening of September 10, 2001?

The next day was bad for a variety of reasons.

Thanks, man. As long as she uses her powers for good, we'll be fine. We've named the puglet Lucky, and she's adorable. Sarah insists that it was in large part luck, as the lady with the pug was already coming to Harrisonville that day to give another puppy to someone else. In any case, she is absolutely priceless(Lucky and Sarah both). I'll post some pictures when I'm able.

What did you do with the dog during the wedding?

I don't think I've every been to a wedding where the garter was thrown.

I know Mrs Hod kept hers on when we got married. She left that as something special for me to take off.

Which I had to do of course, seeing as she was face down on the bed totally blasted out of her skull.

Husbandly duties eh?

I have to say, and this is totally sincere, that there's something undefinable that I always love about your Mrs. Hod stories.

Also haven't read more than a few strips of Terry and the Pirates

My grandmother still has my father's Big Little edition and I recently re-read it but that's it.

b. kliban's website makes me happy...

My mother was a big Kliban Cats fan during her single phase. She had half a dozen posters hung up in the second apartment (which I somehow associate primarily with watching Mike Douglas) and my brother had Super Cat bedding.

The complete DVD box set of the series was on sale at a flea market last weekend for 16 bucks, but I only had 10 on me. Hopefully, when they're back next month it'll still be available.

That sounds like a steal and a half. Not least because I haven't seen them all yet.

Everyone is raving about Superbad and I still have no idea what it's even about. Yes, I know how to find out. The point is that I've somehow ended up in a lifestyle where something can be that popular but I still don't encounter it without deliberate effort. Good thing I don't work reference anymore. The X-books forum? The last couple months the threads for those 2 particular books have become REALLY volatile. Owing partly because the poster that starts some of the threads starts them in a unique fashion that people who like the books (not me) find . . . not very conducive to discussion. I believe there've been a couple bannings or at least near bannings to come out of those threads recently. Apparently a new thread was started last night and it got volatile really fast, so Cronin deleted it and instituted the new rule.

Here's an example of the last one. I don't recommend reading the whole thing:

Yeah, looking back, the deal was that the studio it ended up being a part of didn't exist at the time, so it was an Image book. But soon afterwards, Jim Lee came up with the Homage line (which was later re-named Wildstorm Signature Series), so Astro City was a part of it from the beginning - it just didn't have a name at the start.

So.

Ryan Adams And The Cardinals.

The music was fantastic. I just wish there had been more of it. Two sets at less than 50 minutes each just didn't satisfy me.

I also think that actually being able to see the band, and Ryan in particular, would have enhanced the experience a great deal. While the lighting design itself was excellent, the decision to not have any lights directly on the actual performers was somewhat mystifying.

It was also damn cold in that big, old, beautiful theatre. Something Ryan had quite a problem with: "I've never played outdoors here before."

Summary - A very good show, but it could have been a lot better.

They would be the only two in such a position as the other Librarian I/IIs either do reference and collection development or run a Branch, like myself. Way out of class.

I've already informed the Director, Assistant Director, Head of Youth Services and the Head of Outreach that I don't want to leave my current position at this time but I have to interview to stay on promotion list.

There's a full time floor person job that just opened up but I can't interview for it because I'm needed behind cash because 1) I'm the only cashier who can work during the day on a regular basis and the lead cashier is going away for 3 weeks in September and the 5 training days I've had in the last 5 months will have gone to waste; 2) we're coming up on the busiest time and like I said I'm one of the if not the most reliable available cashier.

Good short story in there that shows the general point of the series, and an introduction to the characters.

So I've been censored by WordPress. They released a new feature that I can't imagine being that helpful, and the announcement thread was filled with people giving the one-liner hooray! post. Literally, over a hundred orgasmic posts. Here's one of them in its entirety:
AWESOME!!!!!!! Perfect! I’ve been wondering when it will happen!

So I piped in with:
I’m sorry for disagreeing with everybody, but…why do we need this? It’s a nice little feature, but I don’t need a preview to know that my blog’s going to look terrible in Banana Smoothie or that Christmas one that nobody uses. Also, I can’t check any of the customizations, like changing the colors, without going full on to the new theme.

Have people taken time developing this instead of implementing other changes, like giving us access to some of the wonderful .org plugins, like Subscribing to Comments, or Lightbox, or Sociable?

Sorry to be so negative. There are just so many more usable upgrades that would be more handy than this. (YMMV, of course.)

The comment was made last Thursday morning. When nine or so hours with it still awaiting moderation and forty or so other "I'm cumming" posts being made, I posted an apology for being negative and said I would try harder next time. Then a minute later I made the following post.
ZOMG! THIS IS TEH AWESOME!!!
THX KBAI!
The first one is still awaiting moderation, the second apology one was deleted, and the sarcastic one got posted.

And I'm stewing in my own juices because people think I made that post seriously.

You can preview a new theme instead of going live with it, but to make allowed modifications to the header or color, you have to go live anyway. ISN'T THAT KEWL?!?
