Before the events of WWH, before Banner entered into any mutual understanding with the Hulk, at any point when Bruce looked at the Hulk as a threat to humanity, did he ever contemplate suicide or try it?
I've just been curious about that lately.

There are recent Banner dialogues explaining why he has never tried to kill himself, his reasoning is that in his mind "Banner" would die, but the "Hulk" would let him mentally fade away and would emerge from the husk of a body, now without Banner to keep him in check internally. He fears an out of control Hulk would be worse than one with him "in the passenger seat."

What Patch said, further supported by the rather conclusive sattement from the Illuminati special that Prof X looked into his mind and found that if he could have killed himself, he would have long ago.
(I assume this means less in a physical sense and more in the sense Patch was speaking of, as in, if he could have killed himself without unleashing something far worse)

In Hulk 300, Doctor Strange says that he does the equivalent of killing himself by giving in to the Hulk's will.
And just after that, during Byrne's run, there's a scene where he's screaming in a hospital for people to kill him so the Hulk doesn't kill anybody else.
Of course, there's also the last issue of PAD's run, and Hulk: The end.

He did try to kill himself in HULK & Sub-Mariner 1998 Annual it's was around the time betty died from the radiation posioning. He went to the middle of the ocean in a boat and put a gun to his head.He could not do it and moved the gun at the last moment and shot the boat full of holes.
He fell into the water and started to change to the hulk,he tried to force all the air out of his lung's so that the hulk would die when he transformed. But he was saved by the attlantian's.Namor's people were dying from some sort of plague banner help save them it kinda gave him a new lease on life.

maybe i'm trippin, but i have this visual in my head where banner's got a gun to himself, in front of him so he can see it coming, and just as he pulls the trigger the hulk comes out of him and he catches the bullet with his teeth.. i could have sworn i've seen this somewhere, and if not i still think it makes an awesome "haha, puny banner" moment

When Langkowsky's mind entered the Crossroads and in Hulk's body, Banner offered Walter the chance to keep the Hulk body and let him (Banner) in the crossroads to die.
Walter eventually left the Hulk making Banner's soul enter the goliath's body again. This was right before his return to earth (issue 300 and something...)

Huh, you're right... Didn't remember that one. Must've been around 320 or so.

Well, speaking strictly of Banner trying to commit suicide and not Hulk:
- IH # 467 The last issue of PAD's run. Banner tries to inject air into his bloodstream via an empty hypodermic needle, then it later says he made other, very public, attempts on his life, one of which was shown to have been Banner jumping from a building. It also always says that the Hulk would only let him get so far, almost as if tauntung him to do it, before saving him, and them, at the last moment.
In the first Illuminati One-Shot, when the question is asked "What about suicide? Would he kill himself." either Strange or Xavier reply "He would have if he could, long ago."
This was a nice little nugget for old-time readers of Hulks series who knew the detailed back story to that comment.

In "Hulk the End" he jumped off a cliff and right as he was ready to hit the ground he turned into the Hulk. Also in the same one-shot story Bruce Banner was getting ready to die of old age and the Hulk took over and would not let Banner die.

Hulk has always had the power to over ride banner as far as that goes & it is a retcon because He couldnt in the earlier issues & now I think that Banner is over riding Hulk to get revenge on the Illuminati, I dont think its The Hulk at all, even Joe Fixit would only scare the crap outta them before He let them know how lucky they are.
Its Banner Who is driving The Hulk, once He let Banner out to reveal Him to Ciera it was all over.
A drunken pill enduced theory mind you.
