i can't get the first link to work, as to the second one i've never been a fan of gray hulk.. i always thought it was supposed to be hulk's trademark to be big and green... even though he started out gray

hmmm...sorry about the first Hulk link...it was about the "Future Imperfect" story line...

As for the Grey Hulk...interesting note is that he was always meant to be grey...however, in one early issue of the series, there is a color error (not intentional) that made the Hulk get printed in green...and so jade jaws was born.

The GN mentioned was written by Peter David, and was quite possible the best written comics of the series (art was good too!).

i was lucky enough to find a tpb of the future imperfect story line at my lcs a while ago and i picked it up. i agree with you, great storyline and great hulk. but i still have to say the current hulk persona is my fav.. i never liked when the writers tried to portray him as friendly to fit him more into the superhero mold. imo, the majority of mu heroes should never feel completely safe around him at any given moment.. do they forget how frequently he gets unhinged? i like my hulk the dark, brooding, raging anti-hero.

Anyone miss these Hulks?

Yes.

The Exiles visited the Future Imperfect world last year. (Exiles #79 and #80)

The Gray Hulk would be on the Defenders if I ever had a chance to write it.

I always thought there should be an extended mini-series of Mr.Fixit The Untold Vegas Tales.

With a more adult tone to it with lot's of crime, corruption and brutality,it could unconver the vast dark underbelly of Las Vegas and make use of some of the most obscure marvel universe characters.
Mr.Fixit would be the enforcer of the casino as always but cover lot's of other stories...i.e being hired as a hitman to take down a rival powerbroker which be someone like Tombstone.

I would love to see this happen.

Stan Lee said in a "History of Comics" documentary that the Hulk started out grey but since back then they mixed the basic colors to create the colors used the colorist complained that it would be too difficult to properly mix grey for a main character in a title so Stan Lee tried several different colors and finally settled on Green.

What do you mean "Tried several different colors?"
The character appeared in ONE issue, and then, two months later, they went with GREEN! There were no other appearances or trials.
The character successfully showed up in grey! Sales were good!

Personally, I think that Kirby had gone too far making him look like Frankenstein, and that Lee or somebody at Marvel wanted to have him be more distinctive and not get sued by Universal Pictures for copyright violation.
I mean, LOOK at the original artwork and drawings of the Hulk with that high forehead and jagged hairline, and all that's missing are the bolts through the neck!!!

He probably colored the Hulk several different colors before the issue came out.
I'd like to have a sketch book from that time.

That's what the Hulk basically is, Frankenstein. ;)

Well, physically maybe, but he bears closer resemblance to Jekyll & Hyde and the werewolf.

It's amazing how many versions of the same story there are.

On the Hulk dvd, Stan himself said that because of the colouring process at the time, the grey would've been inconsistent so then he said "Ok, how about green?"

Pretty similar to Jadeskies version but he made no indication of several different trials, though I'm sure there were.

Anyway, I really gotta find a copy of Future Imperfect. It sounds like a good read.

Really the Hulk was meant to be Grey?

Their is something wrong with the first link but the second link is fine. I never read Hulk from volume 1 though :( so I can't really comment

Red was considerd but due to supermans iconic colours it was trashed green was choosen by Stan Lee because he said there were no other heros in comics that were green monsters.

I miss the merged Hulk, those stories were alot of fun, and when I say merged I don't mean the Professor Ponytail hulk that showed up in later runs

Exactly, right down to the flat-top head (which is supposed to represent a skull with the top sawn off, such that the brain was replaced in Frankenstein, then a flat plate (or nothing) merely bolted on.

Mix in a little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and poof. Hulk. Even gray like an undead, newly-reanimated thing would be.

And yes, it does suggest some confusion as to what the Hulk was supposed to be in the beginning. That's fine. Those guys were about as far from a multi-billion dollar corporation at the time as you can get.

Behind only the current World War Hulk incarnation....I miss good ol' Mr. Fixit. Although his strength was no longer in the elite class...Fixit would make up for it with a lot of funny jokes.

I have some old Spidey trades and comics featuring the Merged Hulk, and he seemed pretty cool (Merged Hulk tied Doc Ock's tentacles into a bow once, after all... although he only did that because PAD was annoyed at how the Doc had bitchslapped Hulk in the Revenge Of The Sinister Six storyline. Who says comic creators can't use their books to get back at each other? ;)).

Yeah. Mr Fixit is cool.
