Like I said, I wasn't sure of her name, and I was kinda guessing. I mean, high school ... that was a lifetime ago. And looking at her yearbook, her last name is indeed "Pham". Ha! There's a picture of me as a freshman in there too!

The thing Kris said about dating Kim is that she didn't get much flak for being gay, but dating across racial lines (Kris is hispanic) caused some problems, especially for their parents. Although by this point the homophobia Kris' mom has hadn't fully flowered yet, but Kim's mom? Yeah, she hit the roof from what Kris says.

As Aggie pointed out to me on her LJ, despite the vast improvements, minorities are often marginalized in the media, intended or not. That in turn leads to a desire to want to see people like you, and some may, unintentionally, embrace the worst caricatures, in order to fill that niche and void. As a blonde-American, do you ever worry about the way your demographic is portrayed in the media, and how that is perceived by others?

I'll say! Being portrayed as stupid just becaue I'm blonde really sucks! Why sometimes when I'm off shopping for shoes, an occasional thought will enter my head ... and y'know, it bothers me that people always wanted to date me because then they got to park in the handicapped zone!
