In the pages “In Thy Name,” the Surfer will find his vast power might not be enough to bring peace to a troubled galactic empire. We spoke with writer Simon Spurrier about the series.

The artwork on this thing looks beautiful, I will definitely read this as soon as it comes out, I love me some Silver Surfer to mix things up a little bit, especially in way out cosmic adventures.

And you wonder why the mean kids at school pick on you.
EDIT: I feel the need to explain further for some reason. You'd pass up a good story, that you'd complain about continuity errors if it was just written, because it is being placed as a timeless-type story?

This will be sort of like the Silver Surfer Requiem story where I'll be buying the hardcover but not the individual issues since it reads better that way.
While I would understand why someone wouldn't want to get it because it's not "in continuity", at the same time if it's a good story it would be a disservice to yourself if you're a fan of the character. Just ask yourself, are Dark Knight Returns, Elektra Assassin, Daredevil Man Without Fear, Kingdom Come and New Frontier all the sudden unimportant because they're out of continuity?

Hello Dr
I was under the understanding that this story is in continuity, but that it doesn't really have any need to reference it, sort of like a Marvel Comics Presents mini self contained story in the eighties or something.
( Marvel Comics Presents is coming back, my favourite comic growing up, trying to shoe horn it in to polite conversation every chance I get )

Am I excited that the Surfer is getting another story? Very much so.
Will I purchase the TPB version of this story? Certainly.
Am I disappointed that no one is exploring the Surfer's Giffen-written character? Most definitely.

McDuffie used Surfer in Fantastic Four. Whether that's a good thing from the perspective of a Surfer fan or not is another matter.
But it is cool that he's showing up in a few more stories here and there. He's not being used in any of the big marvel events (it kinda boggles the mind that Surfer, arguable their top cosmic characer doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot in the new Annihilation series) so we gotta take what we can get.

I don't understand. You'd pass up reading a potentially wonderful story with great art just because it's not in continuity?

Looks cool. I always prefer it when stories are in continuity, but Silver Surfer is a cool enough character. I'm coming into a little money next month so I might check it out.
