Is there still one more Doom Patrol TPB due from Grant Morrison?
Does anyone know when its due out?
I'm about to finish up Magic BUs but it looks like there's about 6 issues or so more of his run to go.

There should be one more tpb on the way, two if they decide to reprint Flex Mentallo and the Doom Force Special. Morrison's dP has been reprinted one book a year for the most part, so I would expect the closing volume sometime early next year.

The Doom Force special is Hi-LARious.

Doom Force isn't worth it. It's way too long. All the good stuff is in the first 8 pages. What with the guy using his powers to trigger a call announcing a dead relative. Then it's dull.

I really hope the legal issues involving Flex Mentallo are resolved so that it can be reprinted. It's the single best thing Morrison has ever done, his heartfelt and very personal love letter to the superhero genre.

I'm not too fond of the Doom Force special either - but then I don't think I was reading the stuff it was ripping the shit out of

The legal issues have been resolved. DC just has to pay the Charles Atlas Company royalties when it reprints the Flex series. Therefore, DC has not reprinted it.

The final volume, Planet Love, will be released in December.

How much knowledge of the Doom Patrol does one need to pick up Morrison's run?

I went into it with almost no knowledge to speak of.

Zero. I don't even think a lot of the characters are even around anymore, but I could be wrong.

Great- can't wait until December.

Almost every version of the Doom Patrol (the Drake original version, the Kupperberg 80s version, the Morrison version, the Pollack version, the Arcudi version) is completely different from the one that came before, so you don't really need to know anything to get into the title. Even the Chief, who is the closest thing to a continuing character, isn't present for large chunks of two of the runs.

The original DP set the tone for this by killing off all of the characters at the end of their series. :)

Cliff is blatantly the only consistently continuing character

I thought the issue wasn't royalties, rather the fact that DC isn't allowed to use the name 'Flex Mentallo' to promote the book, ie the name can't be on the front cover, in the solicits, on posters or any of that.

Still if they had in big writing on the front page "With Bonus Grant Morrison Mini-Series related to the DP universe!" or something, then anyone who knew anything would know exactly what they were getting at.

But I could be wrong, it could just be royalty issues.

I was lucky enough to get my set of Flex on eBay for just sixty bucks. Yay me.

But to get things back on track, I love Morrison's Doom Patrol and can't wait for the last volume to come out.
