"The Quest for Magik" concludes!

I can't do the inviso-text (I'm really sorry, guys!), but here's some of what's to come next week:

The Darkchild, upon arriving at Belasco's castle via the teleportation spell she teaches to Pixie, covers herself in the eldritch armor that she wore during the Inferno. Fighting breaks out amongst demons and mutants alike, and the Darkchild convinces Pixie to stab Belasco with the soul dagger she forged. Upon doing so, Belasco's captives, both New and Astonishing X-teams, are released from their bondage. It is then revealed (courtesy of the newly-liberated Stepford Cuckoos) that the true motivation for Belasco's obsession with Illyana is not vengence or power, but love. He's fanatically in love with her. Darkchild Illyana defeats Belasco and requests more power from Pixie to become god-like as the demons bow to her. During another attempt to extract more of Pixie's soul, Illyana has a brief encounter with Colossus and loses it. She sends everyone back to earth and closes the rift between earth and Limbo. Colossus wants to go back to retrieve Illyana, but Amanda Sefton reveals that access to Limbo has been sealed off. The end of the issue shows the Darkchild sitting atop a throne in the castle, staking her claim as Limbo's new ruler. S'ym asks her "what now?", to which she responds by conjuring a tiny image of her brother and Kitty Pryde and replies, "Now, S'ym? Now I get my soul back."

** It should be noted that Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man, makes a one-panel cameo in the issue. Spidey is in the good Doc's Greenwich Village sanctorum and mentions the demons pouring out from the rift Belasco has opened. Doctor Strange replies that it's too late for him to do anything to seal the rift, that there's nothing he can do.

*** Also of note, in case anyone is wondering, Illyana does not retrieve the Soulsword by issue's end. Someone else asked me that question and I realized I hadn't mentioned it in my spoiler. Her soul, and Soulsword, is still out there somewhere, and Illyana vows to get it back.

I think I hate Pixie a little more now...

Darkchylde is awesomeness, though. Pity she was left in Limbo, but there's hope for future appearances now.

What about Dr. Strange's appearance?

To Toboe: I updated the spoiler in my original post to explain (more or less) Doctor Strange's appearance in New X-Men.

To CMBMOOL: The last quote is in reference to the fact that, as revealed in the last issue, Belasco tried resurrecting Illyana by gathering her essence, but he only got the Darkchild half; the "soul" aspect of Illyana was still missing. Apparently after summoning this incomplete Illyana, Belasco rejected her. But after defeating him and reclaiming Limbo, the Darkchild tells S'ym that she WILL get her soul back (which is probably floating around somewhere in the ether, is my guess. Or is stuck somewhere between dimensions as a result of the Scarlet Witch's mucking with reality during the House of M limited series).

I actually figured she didn't get her Soulsword at the end of the issue because isn't that what her soul is? or became anyway. I can't wait to get this issue, thank you very much Darckchylde:)

Technically, the Soulsword was forged from a fraction of her soul. It represents (quoting Claremont during his New Mutants days) "the ultimate expression of Illyana's power as a sorceress." My take has always been that it was her darksoul given physical form (her Darkchild persona notwithstanding). Unless future writers decide that the Soulsword IS Illyana's soul made manifest and that that is all she would need to completely restore her to her former self.

To CMBMOOL: It certainly looks as if Chris Yost left the door open for another possible return by Illyana. The ending shows Darkchylde vowing to find her 'missing half', if you will, so I'm guessing it's up to Marvel and / or another writer to see where to take it from there.

To Bulky Brent: I respect and appreciate where you're coming from, I really do. But I also understand, as I'm sure you do, too, that there are people who have been enjoying the current storyline and are awaiting the final issue of this arc. Some people like reading advanced spoilers; some don't. It's a matter of personal preference. No need to go on the offensive, dude.

Agreed. Why can't Skottie stay on beyond "Quest for Magik" and the "Messiah Complex" tie-in? His version of the New X-Men is the best yet, and he draws the most adorable Pixie.

I did put "partial spoiler" in the title of my thread. I figure if somebody didn't want to have the issue spoiled for them, they wouldn't have opened the link to read more. Also, in my original post, I mentioned that I didn't know how to use the spoiler tags (as a warning to anyone who was expecting to see them). Seems to me that I did try to give posters notice about what I was discussing. Sorry if that wasn't discrete enough.

I'm so excited for this story. I've always loved Illyana and that fact that she is back in the universe makes me really happy. The lineup growing and changing is just icing on the cake.

I believe it was CB Celebuski who actually was asked the question and said

"Fans should look to Summer 2008 for the 616 Magik to be present again. "

Sorry for being so cynical. Us Magik fans have been teased before. Was kind of preparing for the worst come the end of the Quest for Magik arc.

Thank you for bringing her back in a superb story arc. Its made my year !

Can you tell us whether you'll be personally involved with her summer 2008 return ???
