I didn't know what to expect as I didn't even know what the plot is going to be. All I knew is that they're re-doing the Un-Men in the style of the movie Freaks. That alone sold me. Picked it up today and was pretty impressed. It's grotesquely funny and has a wicked macabre sense to it, particularly the bit with the centaur. Looks like it's going to be another addition to my pull list.

Who else picked it up?

I bought it and found it pretty good. I'm planning on getting the next issue.

I picked it up, too. I was intrigued by the Un-Men preview in Hellblazer and decided to check out the full issue. I thought it was a pretty good mix of horror & humor.

What else has John Whalen written before this? I picked it up more for the concept as opposed to the name value of the writer, like I did with Mike Carey & Faker.

I thought it was okay, good enough to pick up the second issue, but nothing spectacular.

I picked it up and then immediately proceeded to add it to my pull list.

What else has John Whalen written before this?

John wrote the ever fun and brilliant The Big Book of the Weird Wild West for the much lamented DC's Paradox Press line (Damn you DC! Bring those fuckers back!). Also he's written a Conspiracy book with Vertigo editor Jonathan Vankin. You can put his name in Amazon see what else he's written.
