Went school shopping with my 7-year-old daughter today and we were picking out clothes for the coming school year. She picks out this shirt that was some ridiculous amount (more than most shirts I buy and it was UGLY) so I tell her no. She kinda whines and tells me that its soooooo pretty and all her friends will like it and from nowhere I bust out, "you go to school to learn, not for a fashion show".
Man I tell ya, there's no need to argue, children just don't understand ;)

Very nice. I had a classic thwarted beautifully by my three year old daughter tonight.
I told her she had to put the portable DVD on the floor of the car.
"But why daddy?"
"Because I said so."
"Daddy," she said sternly, "that's mommy's line."
My daughter is ten and it doesn't get better. I have compramized, set some small rules, and we try to negotiate. yes it manytimes comes down to negotiating.

I'm always reminded by that classic Calvin n Hobbes cartoon where their in a store and Calvin wants this designer pair of jeans as his mom says they cost so much. Hobbes is there and whispers to him...
"Come on Mom. I need the jeans to look good for the babes."
:p

Good call.
But it doesn’t get easier.
My youngest is starting her senior year and we went to go shopping this last weekend and I told her exactly how much she had to spend and she knew more or less what she wanted.
And we still spent at least two hours of our shopping time arguing about why I wouldn't double the amount I was willing to spend on outfitting her.
Apparently $300.00 just isn’t enough these days.
That’s okay, we managed by the time it was all said and done to only go $14.00 over.
But I've got to tell you, the poor baby pouted the entire way home because I just wouldn't buy that $60.00 Prada purse knock-off.

My daughter is just beginning her rebelliousness. She learned to walk on her own just the other week. :)
