View Full Version : X-Factor 22 Spoilers
Bart Simpson

Just finished the issue. Fun overall. I miss M's cerebralness from the original Gen X. Now she just reads kind of like a bitchy character.
Some issue highlights:
Rictor and Rahne get it on
Siryn gets grazed by a Sniper
M is gassed, but eventually breaks free
And the obligatory cliffhanger: Nicole knocks Layla in the head with a rock and knocks her into a river. We see Layla floating there with blood on her head.
I doubt she's dead.
And for Endangered Species, Dark Beast lets Beast relive his memories.
My favorite part:

Also and Poor Layla, I guess someone wants her out of the way but who ? :(

Were their any after affects from Rictor getting crystals?
Yes, I've read this weeks issue, but I don't know if what we learned is new or not. I mean are the ones growing from his spine...has that been seen before?

I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm a little disappointed they didn't reveal who was pregnant. Thus, the debate continues on for another month!

At least she's on her back and not her her face. I doubt she's really dead though, so it really takes the tension away.

She can also be happy that this ain't the sewers. Rahne had a more troublesome situation when Reaper and Callisto throw her into water.
Was another good issue.
The thing about the crystals on Rictors back create three theorys for me.
1. They grew because of the mist he got from Quicksilver.
2. Rictor fell on the crystals and they aciddently got into his back.
3. Layla picked them up from the floor and put them into Rictors back to save him.

This issue was ok. Doesnt m have every superpower in the book? I just find it hard to believe they were able to get the jump on them. How many times is Siryn gonna get hurt in this book? Was that supposed to be Solo from the Spiderman books, or another Solo? I did like the idea of mutants being considered endangered species by the govt. It is a new idea worth exploring. Layla gets smacked by Nicole. Maybe her powers that be feel like layla cant handle what is coming up and dont feel she can be trusted so they replaced her with Nicole. Also it should be interesting story to see what effect the Terrigen crystals in Rictor's body have.

That's cats ;)
I suspect it was the whole matter of the sewer being used for refuge, the stench, her enhanced sense of smell and them dumping in the sewer, in that order, that pissed Rahne off ;)

Rahne's gotta be preggerz. Her curves are becoming a lot more mountainous since her more androgynous days. I'd imagine whatever side-effects the Terrigen crystals had on Rictor could make the baby quite the loophole.
On the ES side, I'm rather disappointed that Mike Perkins pencils have been my least favorite thus far. I expected he would've done much better than what he delivered.

Wonderful issue!
M is a goddess.
I was starting to like Nicole and her Layla annoying skillz, but she crossed the line. THE BITCH MUST GO DOWN!
What's up with Ric and the crystals on his back? Do you think they're growing there or are they just lodged in there from before? If they've been like that for long you would think Rahne would have noticed. Maybe she was too busy with his other parts though. :)

But it's pretty obvious that Nicole has a deal with the Isolationist, and that his plans for mutantkind will include backstabbing X-Factor at some point. Therefore, he used his lackey Nicole to get Layla out of the way before she predicts what his plans are. If it wasn't for him, Nicole wouldn't have escaped the French police to be there with X-Factor now.

Cyclops from the Age of Apocalypse. That panel is part of a sequence where "our" Beast relives some of his counterpart's memories. Highlights include:
McCoy's examination of Alex, Jack, Julie, and Katie Power.
Jamie Madrox's career as a test subject.
A lecture to Jesse Bedlam on the proper degree of distance from patients.
Introduction to Jean Grey studies.
Sinister's home movies with Nate Grey.

Very awesome issue, although it seems a bit odd for Mr. "While I live, Terror Dies!" to be siding with a group of supremicists. Maybe he's just gone into the full time merc business. Also, did anyone recognize the guy with Solo? I'm not sure if he's know or I should recognize him.
The back up was cool too, and I smiled when Dark Beast thought of a way to possibly bring back Nate Grey. I know some people hate the poor the guy for his 90's birth, but I always found him to be a pretty compelling character and would like to see him still on the playing field.

I was flipped that they mentioned Jean. Not-so-much that they mentioned Nate. Not too keen on characters from alternate timelines and the future. That goes double for Nate since he is an alternate timeline double of a guy from the future.
Can we please have smart but bitchy Monet back? Not Paris Hilton Monet? I love PAD, but his Monet is...too heiress who paid *slept* her way through school, not enough heiress with a 200 IQ.

Nate Grey>>Cable. Since the day he was created. Nathan Summers without all of the Askani Son and "Chosen One" garbage. Then they tried to make Cable into Nate Grey 2 by giving him Nate's power set when he was always a bum who would lose to second rate characters in every major fight they had. A mutant who was eclipsed by Sunspot or Cannonball at his height of popularity but shortly was able to stand an attack from the Silver Surfer? Yeah right. Something Nate Grey could do 10x over from the get go but it takes Cable almost 20 years to get to that level? Horrible. I hope Carey brings Nate back. The sooner, the better. With Rachel returning this fall and Nate potentially coming back, it would be like a dream come true. Bring back the MVPs of the Summers family, not the overpushed ones.
The more stuck up Monet is...the better. Best character in X-Factor. Maybe the best character of the year so far.

Yeah, I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about Clay being back, since he was such a major part of the MadroX mini. I almost plotzed when I saw him again, that's awesome. A hitman with Madrox's powers is pretty deadly.
Very surprised to see Solo too. Wasn't he just in Civil War: Frontline in his old costume last year? Thank God he's upgraded since then.

You'd better... it's awesome! Just get the TPB, it's called MadroX: Multiple Choice.
And no, streator, Jamie never said anything implying he thought Clay was a rogue dupe of his... actually, what he said ("I killed a guy with the same power as me") implies that he thinks Clay is a different mutant with the same ability.
He also thinks Clay's dead, so this should be a nice surprise for him.

Also, she used her telepathy lately when fatale (?) turned invisible or something.

Thoughts:
Oh sh#T! I thought Siryn died right in front of my very eyes. Clay has ONE helluva shot to "graze the skull". I liked how Siryn was kind of taking on M's personality too when she made the guy spend all his lifesavings on a Persian rug. :D
I don't know if that'ss quite Theresa though. But hanging around M that long, something's gotta give I guess.
Rictor is totally heating things up - on all fronts! The scene with Rahne and Ric was hilarious and well done - especially Ric's OOoF! when they fall down! LOL
Boy - I can't tell if Rahne's in heat or in love or both. I agree with Faded though, she was well drawn this issue, as in very feminin.
I was kind of distraught when I saw the crystals in Ric's back. Did he put him there himself or is the evil hand of Pietro's? Probably both I guess...
Layla bloody in the water - makes me kinda well up and shed tears a li'l. But if she died and Preview joined X-Factor instead, I'd be alright with that. :)
Oh yeah the Isolationist - I like his agenda. He's not a mutant is he? Either way I think he's going to be trouble for Madrox later.

Has it ever been established that Clay was a mutant? After all, it HAS been established (at least in this book) that Jamie isn't. I seriously doubt that he is a stray dupe, since all of Jamie's dupes look like him. Clay has white hair and dark skin. Plus, that whole stray dupe plot has been used so many times its tired. I don't think PAD would do it to us again (I was upset he used it in the Madrox mini, it was played out then).

Again, since Jamie is still classified as a mutant in the eyes of registration and that Cererbo(a) will more than likely be able to locate him because of his mutant signature - that no matter what Tryp said he was, he still fits snugly under the Mutant Tree. Maybe an offshoot or it's predecessor, and you can call it a different name, but underneath it all he's still a mutant IMO.
Unless otherwise noted. PAD's a master of ambiguity, but sometimes I wish he would nail in the hammer once in a while.
oh and Clay - he does look cool. I hope he's not a stray dupe and I do hope he is a mutant, if only to add to the sparse total.

Well, that's a terrible thing to say. Every character has it's fans, and I certainly know how I'd feel if one of my favorite's were killed off, which is why I don't like seeing any character shuffled off to nothingness if it can be avoided. X-Man, for instance, was not even interacting with or affecting the main MU when he was offed.

Nate Grey was a top 5 selling book during the majority of his run. Cable and Gambit can't say the same. So with Nate coming back, it's gonna be a parade if anything.:D

I highly doubt Nate Grey is going to come back, unless his only role is to die again in order to re-enable the X-gene (hmm, sounds like Colossus and the Legacy Virus). If he did come back, what role would he play? I don't see at all how he would help to solve the no more mutant problem. Now the Phoenix is a different matter, but that's getting way off topic.
also mutants always try to say that there humans too but if they go with what the Isolationist is trying to do then there totally seperating themselves from non powered humans and thats kind of contradictory to there cause isnt it? they want to be viewed as equals but they cant if they seperate themselves from the 6 billion other humans inhabiting the world?

How do we know anyones really pregnant? Remember it was nicole who brought the test to layla. It could be she was just trying to mess with her, and make her wander off alone so she could bust Laylas head open with a rock.

That is a very good point. But the test was positive, so if None of the actualy cast took the test... who did?

Verrrrrrrrrry interesting turns of events here.
Some thoughts:
I think someone did take the pregnancy test. However, because of Nicole's and the Isolationist's ulterior motives, the pregnancy, for whatever reason, they want it to be unknown. Perhaps it has something to do with the Messiah Complex. Perhaps it does not.
Rhane is in heat. Definitely. And Rictor was spot on about her and her fears of her wolf form. She's still not entirely comfortable with it, and the future vision of what she did to Layla and Madrox doesn't help with that.
As far as M goes, I think she had some of the best lines here, just like she did when she was with GenX. I don't think David has forgoten her above level IQ, but he is getting better at her snappy banter. I loved the exchange between her and Solo. "The next I bust of yours will be lower". ha!
Now,I think Solo got the drop on M, simply because she wasn't really "using" her hyper senses. If you notice in the past, people have gotten the drop on M before, so it's not that far of a stretch. He teleported in, and got the drop on her. It's not a big deal....or maybe she had went along with it to find out what was going on.
Oh no not Layla!!! (she can't be dead...she just can't!)

Well, that last part I doubt... his book might have sold (spinning out of the AoA and all), but from everything I've seen over the last 5 years, he doesn't have many fans left. But as much as I don't care for the character, I'm not averse to him coming back; I just hope it's not in any books I read.
Nice to see Guido joking around again... maybe all it took was a job offer to get him back in form.

Great stuff as usual. M and Guido were hilarious, and poor Layla.:(
And i don't know if anyone said it already, but i think Layla being "killed" is just another part of Sinister's plans, since he's killing characters who have knowledge of the future. This Isolationist character is connected to him somehow. A clue to this might be that he was hidden in the South Pole, where Sinister has a base (like it was shown in the X-men Annual). Maybe Sinister offered him control over his powers?

Terragen crystals either inserted after Quicksilver lost them or possibly the result of Quicksilver channeling the crystal's powers through him.
They seem grown rather than inserted ..
If they were inserted then i wonder why since it's been shown clearly mutants cannot be repowered with terragen mists succesfully (at least as far as we know for now).
If they are growing by themselves the question will be:"what will they do .. ?".
Quicksilver gained some mutated version of his mutant power but i think he also bathed in the mists themselves so not entirely sure what gave him his time displacement power. If not the embedded crystals then maybe Pietro still has his powers .. ?

We know that Sinister has shapeshifting abilities, and he has been known to pose as people to mess with X-Factor. (this would make me right when I predicted that it was Sinister watching Nicole leave on the plane :D ).

Huber plants Nicole in X-Factor. So why he saves them in Paris though? That his ultimate plan doesn't become sidetracked?? That's the only part I don't really get but it's gotta be about his ultimate plan...I don't think he TRULY wants to help out mutants.
I cannot see Sinister working as a henchman or second-in-command guy if he was that guy in Paris. Huber must have went to Paris, went back to his little Ice Kingdom, and then back to Mutant Town, NYC once NICOLE started her little backstabbing and shyt. :evilangry

Her saved Monet and Syrin in Paris so that Nicole could be planted inside X-Factor. Otherwise, the cops would have stopped the plane and taken her back (presuming she actually was a French citizen) and or arrested them.

Hello! I'm new here. I've read X-factor 22 and I think that Rahne is the one that is pregnant and if so, would her baby be the one that is at the center of the new x-crossover Messiah Complex, from what I've read that crossover is going to kick start with the birth of a new mutant baby, and with talks of somebody being pregnant at X-factor I don't think is coincidence. What you guys think?
Andy...interesting speculation. You may be on to something.

I think all the signs point to M being pregnant, but Rahne did have a suspcious line when she said she 'knew a thing or two about sex' in issue 21 just before shagging Rictor and after Nicole found the test. Who the father would be, I have no idea, but I hope to God it wouldn't be Elixer.

See, I don't think Sinister is even involved in X-Factor.
It's incredibly clear that Sinister is not involved. After the red balloon issue in France, I was very vocal about how sure I was that he was involved. My speculation about Sinister = Hubris was sort of a joke that would save me face after my past specualtion. I thought it was a good idea, until sephirothskiller rained on my parade.

And who else would have sex with Rahne?
You see - for me - I thought Rahne was most def a virgin until she did it with Julio the first time. There wasn't one time in Rahne's history where I thought she could have done it - even with the whole Elixir thing.
And with what has happened in X-Factor AND New X-Men the last couple of years it makes it really hard for me to imagine a time where they could have done it. I know they can retcon a time but for continuity's sake...I don't see it.
Now if PAD retroactively shows Rahne boinking another guy before Ric, then there's that. Because Nicole finds the pregnancy test the same issue Rahne gets freaky with Ric - that's hard to believe she'd take a test the same day.
So either Rahne did somebody else before - which amplifies the notion that she is IN HEAT! Or it's not her. :)
If it is her - maybe it has to do with something about her seeing the future and her killing Jamie and Layla. Could a child of hers prevent that somehow?
I'm eager for PAD to come back to that. :D

I'm a huge fan of her being in heat- since PAD is continuing with where he left of 14 years ago with the Isolationist storyline, I'd like to see him finish his Rahne subplot as well. Too bad Genosha is destroyed and thus we'll never get to see what was supposed to happen to the X-patriots.

This is prolly the reason you're one of my favorite posters here.
The X-forums are zany, and I love it! We're all fanatics, which is probably why this is the busiest of the mainstream forums on CBR.
Awww...thanks! :o

Oh. my. god.
Why did you guys EVER let me drop this book?!
Don't blame me! I promote this book so hard core that I'm sure people don't even listen to me cuz they think I'm being paid.
Which, honestly, is one of the main reasons why I think it's Rahne that's pregnant. PAD's largely neglected her thus far.
The more I read about her being pregnant, the more likely I think that it is her. And I think it will be a good thing. Seriuosly (as I'm sure its been mentioned on these boards before), when have we ever seen a x-parent? Scott had a son, only to have him thrown into the future before he was raised. I can see how having an infant around can slow down a book like X-men, but X-Factor, on the other hand, is the perfect place for a child to make an appearance. Heck, Layla can babysit!

It can't be Rahne, guys. I really think it's Terry now.

Why? She volunteered for a mission without a second thought. As someone on another board pointed out, both Terry and Monet accepted a mission without much concern and upon being captured, didn't express any extra concern for their physical well being.
Plus, them being preggers would make Jamie a single parent. If PAD wanted to go that route, he could have found a way with the Priest dupe Jamie from a few issues back.

I don't think it's Rahne either.
Maybe I don't think things enough, but would it be too obvious if it was Monet's? Does everything have to be super humongous reveal? Lol.
Didn't read the thread, but, regarding Messiah Complex;
Could the baby that's the big brouhaha behind MC be Jaimie's and Monet/Terry's?

Given all the Jesus symbolism in Cable and Deadpool's first 12 issues, I wouldn't be completely shocked. Disgusted, yes, but not shocked.

Well, obviously, if you read the issue than you should know that it's Joseph Huber, the Isolationist.
No what I meant by Earth shaking lovefeast is between Rictor and Rahne. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if Jospeh Huber ends up being Mr. Sinister.
The character just has that "vibe".

Has the Isolationist been mentioned/alluded to/seen before Monet and Siryn went to Paris? I tooooooooootally remember something.

Well there is one way to tell if it's Sinister...Essex could never hide his brilliance rate. How smart does this Joseph come off as?

Other than the scene in Genosha in Peter David's original run on X-Factor? (A scene that got retconned by Lobdell into being Cameron Hodge). Not that I can recall.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if Huber might end up being connected with the Madrox mini somehow (the reappearance of Clay in this issue seems more than coincidental to me).

He's dropped the "While I live, Terror dies" thing, though. Which is good, since that sucked.
I think the line itself was stupid, but I liked the guy's role (terrorist fighter). Seems kind of strange that he'd go from that to being a paid mercenary/bodyguard, and I wonder if we'll get any explanation behind his paradigm shift.
Kind of cool to see him again, but I think- especially given the current RW political climate and the MU one as well- that he'd be better used in his traditional role, and would/could actually be somewhat relevant now as a result.

Actually, Huber appeared in the Paris issues (don't recall which ones off hand). He was in the shadows, but he held the cops off while Monet's plane took off, allowing them to escape with Nicole.

Agreed. I've always liked that line. Stupid?`Yeah. But kind of cool anyway. It takes confidence to say something that stupid and mean it.
Pretty much. That story line was terrible, and I'm glad that the writers didn't have Rahne statutory rape. If the kid was Josh's, there'd be an indication long before now, IMO.
Really? It was my favourite part of the Academy X series, and I loved that series.

It was just a retread of the same Rahne plot we've seen before. Rahne falls in love with some blond, angst and then resolution. Doug was cute, Havok was character development and by Doulock, the 'Rahne in love' plot got old.

It was fresh for those who don't have a long history of comics though!
