I'd like to see Cyke, Storm and Chuck all kick the bucket by the kids. Maybe by destroying the mansion, and having them move over permanently over to the Massachusetts academy would have been a change. Also, it would have been nice to see other mutants rise to the occasion of leading the team for a while. We got brief glimpses every now and then, but it always comes back to Chuck, Cyke and Storm in the end.

I don't remember, but I'd assume that it wasn't so much HER as her Hellions...that maybe they were Step 1 of him killing the "next gen" of mutants.



Emma, Magneto, Xavier were the triad of mutant leaders. Magneto was the extreme, Xavier was cooperation, Emma was an alternative to both..she didn't want to submit to humans, but she didnt want to rule over them...she just wanted her students to live life without having to hide who they were (as per Uncanny 314).

Honestly, I'd rather read an Upstarts revival than have Shadow King trotted out again for more "I'm the only one of me, I am the essence of evil, watch me twirl my shadow-stache! Have at them, Shadow X! Possess them, Evil Obese Karma! Once again, Polaris - once again with the 'I need therapy' super strength - will be my power conduit! Muahahahaha!!!"

Anyway, if the Upstarts reformed, I'd like to see them go after people who survived previous attacks. Bring along the ghost of Siena Blaze too. Why did she have to die? Was it the taint of the Ultraverse? My poor, sweet Ultraverse...

Quick side question, but I remember reading that Claremont/Lee originally planned for Selene and Matsuo to be part of the Upstarts (back when they were still going to be called the Wild Boys).... when Claremont/Lee/Portacio left, were Siena and Graydon then subsitiuted in by Nicezia/Lobdell, or were they always planned to be part of the group?

All new creations. The Wild boys thing was just a wisp of a plot point that they had started, so Nic and Lobdell created some characters to fill in some of the blank spots. I believe that Omega Red was to join in as well, iirc.
