I was checking the Black Adam preview in newsarama (http://www.newsarama.com/dcnew/aug07/previews/Aug_8th.html), when I thought: could the Adam in countdown be a pretender; something similar to the Helmet of Nabu in 52? It would help a bit in explaining why DC would launch a series about him regaining his lost 'word' after showing him with restored powers in countdown.

It's probably a bit of wishful thinking on my part, but it would be a step in the right direction of redeeming countdown imo.

Honestly-- seriously-- I fail to see what is so (freaking) hard about accepting the fact that Black Adam's mini-series is set before his appearance in Countdown.

Ever bought a 'Year One' type comic? It's the exact same thing. 'This happened before all that other stuff. Yaaaaay.'

This.

Also how the hell would a fake Black Adam give Mary the combined powers of Black Adam and Isis?

And again I say: from all indications, in COUNTDOWN, what you see is what you get. There appear to be no great deceptions going on. The apparent flubs are not clues. Black Adam is Black Adam, Athena is Athena (not Granny Goodness or Eclipso), Jimmy Olsen is "our" Jimmy, not some character on Earth-43, everybody knows who Jason Todd is on "our" world. I sympathize with those anticipating some startling reveal, but I really just don't think it's gonna happen, now.

There was suspicion that it was an alternate Jimmy? And since when does everyone know who Jason Todd is? Jimmy only knows as part of whatever's happening to him.

Actually, wouldn't this make the reveal all the sweeter? Its like completely lulling our senses and then BAM!... something happens that we didn't see(or we saw and then gave up on).

And did they bloody take away Adam's powers and then give them back so soon. It really just ruined the ending of World War III, which I thought was nice. Although I don't know why I'm complaining, Black Adam is my favorite character.:p

Dude. No. Everybody does not know who Jason Todd is. Jimmy Olsen does. Recently, the writers of Countdown have stated in various interviews that Jimmy's knowledge of this, as well as several other things, will be an important plot point in coming issues of Countdown.

And we'll... eh... see how that turns out.

I thought that in the most recent Action jimmy comments on how weird it is that he knows Robin's, as well as all past Robins, secret identity. Which means they are trying to address this. I guess it's open to speculation whether they are trying to fix an error in Countdown by doing this, or if this was the plan all along (or if they just tacked on the 'secret knowledge' thing to the rest of 'mysterious' jimmy stuff to fix a mistake).

As for:

I don't see it as being the exact same thing, mostly due to the fact that the mini is being published so close to the events depicted as having happened after it, not years along the way (:

Seriously though, its not that hard to take things at face value, its just perplexing why they would do it this way. It takes away from the anticipation of the mini's conclusion, although granted not necessarily the road that will take us there.

Several people at DC have been commenting since the first issue that there was a reason Jimmy Olsen knew who Jason Todd was and that all will be explained. No speculation about it.

No speculation about it.

I stand corrected. It is reassuring that they are following up on things like that, I was a bit underwhelmed by Countdown so far.

Whoa.

Black Adam is at least ACTING like Black Adam. He's in character.

The Athena we are seeing in that weird-ass "women's shelter plot" in Countdown is NOT precisely acting like Athena the goddess.

And yes, Jimmy is Jimmy. I mean... theories about his ONE plot happening elsewhere, or to some other Jimmy, or to some Jimmy impersonator who seems to think just like Jimmy, or whatever, seem to be a bit out there.
