Hey I was rereading My Life In Miniature and it occured to me to wonder how Professor Campbell gets his wheelchair into Professor Kettering's basement. I haven't read all of the series.... is that question answered?

Maybe he can really walk and just happens to get stuck with the spare wheelchair Kettering keeps in his basement everytime they play poker?
I can totally see Panda pushing him out of the way to get to a good chair.

My guess is that the cellar has a door that leads to the outside, and they put a ramp there.

Getting into the basement is easy (just think of Richard Widmark in "Kiss of Death" and you have the answer).
Getting out again, that's another story.

When I was able-bodied but dating another guy in a wheelchair, I and a friend would just pick up his wheelchair from the front and the back and carry it down or up any stairs. As long as the person and the chair are light it's easy. X:

With the engineers and scientists at Ivy town,it would be reasonable to guess some form of elevator lift(and it does not need to be high tech either, especially for a basement).

Although, if he got the Lighter Than Air guys in on the project... who knows WHAT they might have come up with! I think the easiest solution is the storm-cellar-door-ramp one. However, who knows what four brilliant and eccentric scientists came up with?

A telescoping ramp is a way to go,and would probably be faster than a old fashioned lift-plate,as i was imagining(I was trying to come up with a solution that could be done easily and cheaply). I instantly thought of the travel shuttles for handicaped people that had lift plates for wheelchairs.
It just seems the technology is already THERE to be used, just extrapolated in a different environment. A telescoping ramp would also have bumps, and then there is the trip back UP the ramp.

Occam's razor would suggest that the simplest solution is the best.

The local football (soccer) team holds their fan meetings in the downstairs room of a local community center. One of the fans is in a motorized wheel chair that weighs a ton. Usually, one of his friends carries him down there while 4 of us break a sweat schlepping his wheelchair down the stairs.

The stairs were also shown in a shot, sans lift plate apperatus. So, there's that.
