This is no joke. It happened yesterday in downtown Jonesboro (http://kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=6877106), and fortunately, no one was hurt. He is the parts manager of the dealership, and we don't know yet what the job situation will be. He was not there, because he's been in the hospital for pneumonia since Sunday night. When it rains...

The transcript of the 911 (http://kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=6884237) call is so typical Arkansan.

The dealership is a total loss, and the shop and parts department are toast.

Wow, that dealership is one of our clients (I work for ADP Dealer Services). I hope they rebuild soon. In the meantime, maybe the employees can help out at their other dealerships in Walnut Ridge, Black Rock and Hot Springs.

I'm so sorry. The bright side is that no one was hurt and that he didn't own the dealership in question. I pray that they transfer him to another store or that he finds a comprable job quickly.

Well do you need anything? Even with two jobs my funds are limited, but if I can put $5 in a collection plate, i can certainly contribute some thing to you. Godspeed Darediva.Posts like this put things into perspective. I should think of this the next time I whine about how my bosses are treating me. Perhaps this will uplift your spirits a bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=permm26wznw
It's a song about learning what matters in life, losing everything, and being able to move on. BTW, if your insurance company tries to screw you, tell me. I know someone who will deal with them. www.mafia-legends.com They will make their lives miserable.:evilsmile

Gee, ever have one of those years? :(

Sorry to hear this, Alice and I hope your husband is okay and will be able to find a new job, if it becomes necessary.

Of course, I've been hanging around YABS too long and the first thing that popped into my head, was:

"Gee, if only you had kept that deer, you could have had one hell of a barbecue" . ;)

Hi Alice,

boy, you weren't kidding about when it rains, it pours!

how did it end up going w/ the insurance coverage on the car?

did you at least get some of the venison?

hugs and good thoughts.

Now, Rob, that is what we call "One small world", isn't it? Yeah, we haven't gotten word on what his job status will be. He was the parts manager there, been there since 1995 when it was still McCarty Motors.

All we know is what we've heard through the grapevine so far, since he has been in the hospital the past week. I just brought him home last night, and so far, we haven't heard anything concrete.

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. This is going to be rather rough going for a while, as it will certainly put everyone who worked there into a new situation come Monday morning.

Yeah, we certainly could have, especially right there at the dealership. They even had a barbequed Viper that had been sitting on the showroom floor that someone had traded in.

It was one spectacular fire, and I have to say that the fire department was on the scene in about a minute after the first 911 call, because they are literally in the next block over. The Red Cross was there to set up to keep the firefighters hydrated and fed, and the ambulance teams were there to treat the heat exhaustion before it became worse.

A big concern was the location. There was a frame house so close to the back wall of the parts department that you could not walk between the two. A woman who is bedridden lives in that house, and the neighbors ran to get her out of there before her house could be involved. I don't know if there was more than smoke damage to her house, but the quick action of the neighbors saved her life, I'm certain.

Dan didn't lose much that was personal, except his uniform shirts that he had bought himself (he prefers a white shirt, and the dealership provides dark polo shirts) and had come back from the laundry on Monday, but he wasn't there to pick them up. The ones who lost the most were the mechanics who have tens of thousands of dollars invested in those huge toolboxes. All that was personal, and not covered under the dealer's insurance. I hope some of those guys carried a policy rider on that. Don't know if anything could be salvaged from the wreckage or not.

We will be ok. Not saying that things won't be rough for a while, but we will survive and bounce back. Knowing that you have friends across the miles is really a good comfort. Thanks, everyone, for your good vibes.

Bert, everything went great with the car. Thank goodness it wasn't MINE that was in the shop that day.

I have to say that State Farm was exceptional in the service they provided to me. I have a fantastic agent here, and everything was taken care of quickly and without hassle. I had a rental car, the towing from the outlying area was not a problem, and I had the car back within ten days. The DaredivaMobile looks in top shape. ;)

The officers at the scene of the wreck asked me if I wanted the deer. I had no way to get it butchered, or I'd have taken it. They called around and I'm sure it did not go to waste.
