Kudos to you, sir. I admit, I'm upset now that you're not staying for the long-haul. Kara in this issue, after taking down the President's plane, realized her mistake and then actually tried to do something about fixing it instead of just moping. While the reference to the one guy being in Somalia seemed a little iffy to me, it did paint a clear lesson for Kara that we never forget our mistakes but we can learn from them. ^^

For what problems I had with the book, most prominently the fact that it was yet another Amazons Attack tie-in, I am glad that Tony took a mistake Kara made and made her deal with in and learn from it, which is more than Joe Kelly did with an entire year on the book.
Tony, how long are you sticking around on this book? And if you're staying past the next two issues, are you going to get the chance to write some original stories, or are they all tie-ins to something?

Only 2 more issues, and those two are COUNTDOWN related. Sorry, Jack.
As for the Somalia iffy-ness, I'm wondering if that's because we were in Somalia fourteen years ago. I figured the Greg character was in his mid thirties, which would make the timing about right. Or was it simply too great a coincidence that the guy was married to an Air Force One crew member and a vet himself, and happens to run into Kara on the same day? That would be a stretch, I must admit...

Nah, meeting them on the same day is a perfectly reasonable suspension of disbelief thing. The age thing wasn't too bad if he was at least 32 or so. The thing is that it kind of felt like a jab at the armed forces and trying to reference the current war without really referencing the current war - "We went in to "fix" a big mess, too. For a while it seemed we had. ... Must've shot up half of Mogadishu just to get back out. Women, kids, everybody..."
I admit it's a good counterpoint to the lesson Kara had to learn, but I just wonder if there wasn't a better way to have it for him. I'm fairly certain it wasn't your intent to deliberately make a hit at the armed forces, but it just kind of made me bite my lip when I read it. ^^;
Ah, but you don't have to listen to me, I'm just some crazy conservative fanboy. ^_~
Oh, and a question - have you ever tried to petition for any of the books you're doing a temporary stint on? While this is just one issue, judging from this I wouldn't mind having you on here for the long run. ^_^

Tony, any chance of a Supergirl vs Batgirl rematch during your run on this series?

while I applaud you for working an issue thats tied into the horrid Amazons Attack stuff, I have to say thats I'm afraid for supergirl with the direction you started to take her in.
It seemed like she was a frightened little girl who feels like superman is above her and that he can do no wrong. She cried when she made a mistake, supergirl, even more so this supergirl wouldn't do that.
It just seems like all the apologizing she did to people that she didn't need to (Boomer, was needed but superman and even more powergirl was not) followed by the weird and instant change of character seems to me like the writers want to make her a carbon copy cut out of superman but with a skirt rather than the interesting, sometimes crazy rebelish supergirl we got up until issue 18.
Now I know you have no control over the stories you are telling on supergirl, so you have no control over the actual problem with supergirl, but sometimes changing something like her character and dress code just for the sake of being able to control a change made while on a book is more hindering to it than if you just did what you could with the stories and moved on.

I would take garza's 12 year old looking cartoon wannbe looking supergirl over Rentos mis-sahped and puggy supergirl and I hated garzas supergirl.
I really wish Bedard Chang whos doing the covers for supergirl should be doing the inside art instead.
I mean the below IMHO is what supergirl should be.

You can't even get remotely close to seeing a shadow of underneath her pants nevermind a private part, the skirt is actually a perfect compromise seeing as how its not the length of Churchill's but not the super overlong and ridiculous length of Rentos.

Hate to break it to you, Johnny, but that second cover is too much like Churchill's drawings, with the best description for it being that A WOMAN'S HIPS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY.

You say that like its a bad thing.
Your waist comment is silly considering with Rentos art it should be clear that a womens ankles don't tend to be as thick or allow legs to bend the way rento had them bending. Just because she has flat stomach muscle rather than puggy fat doesn't mean she is anorexic, too bad girls and blind people say otherwise. They want a fat or at least puggy supergirl that way normal girls who eat to much and don't work out at the gym don't start becoming anorexic, so they can feel good about themselves.
I mean Changs and churchills doesn't look like a normal girl for the only reason it looks like their versions of supergirl actually work out and are fit and replace fat with muscle. However, those who are parents of daughters they want to have read it and girls themselves call it anorexic only because they know they could never have the kind of muscle there that there is.
Rento and Tony basically came together to put more fat on supergirl, give her an overly baggy shirt to cover more belly, mis shaped legs and incorrectly colored costume and an extra long skirt to gain the attention of female readers and parents not to actually please their current fans which it seem by the 5 or 6 threads on just the DC boards alone they aren't doing a very good job of. never mind other ones where they think rentos is mis-shaped and puggy rather than like a supergirl they would want to see.
Rento working for tony who is a parent screws with what actually looks good compared to what they feel they would want their kid to look like and wear.
Honestly can you tell me it would make sense for supergirl to up and just get a longer shirt and skirt to cover a lot more skin after years of not doing so without some sort of parent there forcing said dress change on her? Seeing as she doesn't have one and superman wouldn't get involved in something that silly the whole costume change was a ridiculous way of tony think he could gain enough new readers even if he lost current ones.

Maybe she's tired of having people stare at her vagina when she flies?

Seeing as how we only saw 3 panty shots total in the supergirl run 1-20(2 of them in the first issue and the only other one being in issue 18 drawn by garza, not churchill) its ridiculous to use that arguement as not only have we barely even seen her panties, but we know she wears them and by using the skirt for year upon years its apparent she could care less if people stare.

First of all, I said HIPS, not WAIST. Her waist is fine. It's her hips that are the problem. She appears anorexic because her hips suddenly jut back out again instead of there being a natural curve. It looks like all the fat and body tissue that would be there suddenly transfered to the wrong place.
I mean Changs and churchills doesn't look like a normal girl for the only reason it looks like their versions of supergirl actually work out and are fit and replace fat with muscle. ...You're not seriously trying to pull the "they're just jealous of her figure" argument, are you? I was unaware that I, a single 19 year-old VIRGIN MALE am upset by the drawing because I secretly want to be a skinny girl with a teensy skirt and collagin-filled lips.

...Have you ever seen a real-life woman? I have never seen a girl that looked like Churchill's Supergirl.

No, it wouldn't. But then again, Supergirl doesn't have independent thoughts and actions because she's A FICTIONAL CHARACTER. As far as every character in the DCU is concerned, Supergirl's been wearing the exact same outfit from issue to another - how she looks in an issue of Amazons Attack is exactly the same to the other characters as she does in her own book. The writers and artists are the Gods of these characters and they make them say or do whatever they wish.
Look again at that Churchill drawing. It looks like if someone gave a light tug to that thing, it'd pull off right away and frankly from how teensy it is I'm not entirely sure where those panties are that you claim are supposed to be.

Maybe she got tired of people on the Internet talking about how easy it would be to stare at her vagina while she's flying?

I loved the art in this issue. Guedes' art is fluid and expressive (I love how you can tell Kara and Cassie are two separate people just by their faces).
This was the first Supergirl comic of the current run that I actually enjoyed (I've tried it a couple of times previously but so disliked both the art and Supergirl's characterization that I quit buying the book after a couple of issues each time.) I fully intend to buy the rest of the Bedard/Guedes run and hopefully we will see more of this version of Supergirl.

Something to think about, I guess, but c'mon. "Vagina" is an awesome word.

You know who DID get tired of that?! Churchill.
Look at his early issues, then the later ones. You'll see at one point (I forget the actual issue #) that he makes the skirt basically super-ultra-micro.
I always figured it was a reaction to fanboy/girl whining. I thought it was hilarious.
"OH, you thought her skirt was short before? I'LL show you short!" :)

That'll show those vagina-gawkers! Supergirl's skirt is made of a special Kryptonian fiber than bends light so you can see her vagina from any angle!
