View Full Version : The Future Of The New X-Men

So, Kyle & Yost have put out as many issues as Defillips and Weir now (not including the New Mutants run or Hellions mini.) Originally their run was a year, to shake things up and set the new status quo - I think we can safely say they achieved their goal! And then they took on a second and what a year it's been so far!

But with Messiah Complex around the corner, what do you guys think the future holds for our beloved X-Men of the future?

Will Chris & Craig stick around for a third year on the book to explore the new team line up they created and expand/revist the plotlines they've laid out like Selene/Wither?

Or will the X-line shift around give us a new creative team for those troubled teens? I'd think with 10 main characters now, it'd be quite the task to take over! But with each team having a specific reason for operating after MC, will "New X-Men" be appropriate for the kids? Will it accurately represent what they are and what they do?

Will New X-Men be one of the X-books ending after Messiah Complex? Will the cast be shuffled off and split among the core X-teams? Or will they stick together in a new title, like perhaps a new X-Force?

I'm sure what we'd all like is for the book to carry on as it is, but what do you THINK will happen? Where can you see things headed?

I think that New X-Men will survive Messiah Complex with Yost and Kyle writing it for a few months.

I would like the current team to continue for a while.

I say make an arc where Wither leaves Selene comes back blames and attacks the kids for Laurie's death becoming a danger to everyone I would love to see this.

He already knows about Lauries demise - Selene told him in #32 when she was still posing as the old woman and he rang Cessily at the insitute and was screaming and crying. It's what lead him to kill those guys and then to join up with Selene/embrace his "destiny" as a killer when she revealed her true form and made her offer - he had nothing more to lose - nothing else to go back to or live for.

I'm leaning towards the kids breaking out into another title at the minute but I really have no idea what could happen. Messiah Complex is gonna change EVERYTHING in the X-World. (For the better hopefully!)

Knowing Marvel the title will have a creative shift change sometime after Messiah Complex concludes. We all know another reload will occur afterwards.

I've made it no secret that I'd really like to see some of the kids make it into the big leagues and just end the book, so that'd be my number one choice. They can still be students while being actual X-Men, interacting more with other characters and outgrowing their junior team cliques. The rest can either float between titles via cameos when the writer deems necessary or just load them on a bus and GO.

As for the book itself, I'm at a crossroads with the creative team. I've been a vocal non-fan the current creative team's stories, but I've really enjoyed Quest for Magik despite the power changes. If the quality continues on this path, then I wouldn't mind them sticking around, but I'm certainly not opposed to seeing other writers give the title a try. Carey would be a top choice as would other several other writers, but they're all either currently DC exclusives or employed by ABC.

The most recent solocits disturb me -

The enemies of the New X-Men are on the move. Ever since Decimation, the students of the Xavier Institute have been depowered, blown up, shot down and tortured. Now, on the eve of an event that will change mutantkind forever, the kids have to wonder... are they doomed? Could the last generation of X-Men be ending now?

Are Kyle & Yost adding Vic and Megan to the team now whilst they still have the chance to have some fun with them?

The future is so unclear!

I dunno what will happen before, during or after Messiah Complex though I don't think they'll be spitting up the team after MC.

But I wanna have Chris & Craig and Skottie(Especially Skottie!) to stay on the New X-Men book a little longer. They're doing good so far in New X-Men to have them leave so soon. But I wonder if they'll do a Wither/Selene arc right after MC since they said they had plans for Wither/Selene though I wonder what the plans are.

Though it would be nice to see a "vacation" issue where the New X-Men team just takes a break. I think they're over due for one. Though I wonder if New X-Men will change it's title or not. It be so cool to see the title Generation X again with the New X-Men team. :p

Well, we have the "downtime" issues #42 and #43 right after Quest For Magik, right before Messiah Complex. :)

With nine members on the squad, there's room for a couple to graduate to on of the major teams.

Is it selfish of me to want all of them to stay together for now? I mean Gen X and New Mutants tried "graduating their students" and now most are missing in action. In their books they are the stars and always appear. That might not be the case if they graduate.

What i would do, and this would be a gutsy move by marvel

Would be to kill a team of x-men, brubakers (all of them...nightcrawler...notcoolasThunderbird guy....zygote boy...whoever else is on that thing) and have the new x-men have to step up

that'd be interesting

Could keep the school element, but would add a whole new level of pressure

lol This is the stupidist idea I've ever heard no offense :D! I don't think the flagship title should be represented by teenagers it just doesn't seem right

I kind of hope for it to become a Runaways situation where they are out on their own now..It would make good for a New X-Men/Runaways or New X-Men/Young Avengers crossover. But another part of me wants them to just stay and be split amongst the core teams and have the other students like Match, Loa, Nezhno (sp?) and etc get in on New X-Men. A graduation of sorts.

I voted for new creative team.

Kyle and Yost did a great job on this arc, don't get me wrong, but I feel like their take on how to make the book good was to make everyone hardcore, in your face. I don't agree with most of the decisions they have made including Victors arm, Santos' new forms(the new one being more tolerable), David's heart being ripped out, Elixir's black moving skin deformality... Lauries death, etc.

I think it's time we saw someone else's take on the book now or (and I know I'm asking to be flamed for this) have Nunzio and Christina come and take back their characters. Let's see how they handle the changes that their characters have gone through and see where they go from there.

I think they should continue the current New X-Men for awhile but I've got a certain feeling at least one character or two will be moving onto bigger and better things. Like Elixir or Hellion. I think there probably both the most likely to step it up a notch.

with everyone getting blown up... id wish to see something less-death more fun... their kids for God sake... i just miss the days where most of the xmen play a game... ;) if not today... i guess a couple of months would do.

i hope...

No, you're absolutely right. Except for the fact that it will not, for sure, be the case if they graduate. They will be nobodies if the book ends now.

The book should continue, but i wouldn't mind Kyle & Yost leaving and a team that is not fond of killing and torture the students for shock value taking over.
