The Trickster and Pied Piper storyline picked up again...can't wait to see a throw down between them and Renee and Batwoman.

Great art this week by Calafiore. Most of the stories were moved along pretty well, too, except "The Challengers"' story, which actually hurt the way I read this week's All-New The Atom. I'm gonna' have to read it again tomorrow fresh, because I could tell it was a really fun issue, but the horrible continuity between the stories being told there and in Countdown was too much.
Better issue than most, but still pretty pedestrian.

Same old Same old. Each story advanced a bit with no big reveals. The hacking of Oracle seems interesting but is it just another OMAC thing all over again? If so it would be boring otherwise all the villains having the names and addresses of the Superheroes could be interesting.

not to bad. But i'm not so sure it was any good either, because of how bad the first issues were. haha. Maybe its making me think it was better then it was.
I think its getting obvious that Action Man will get over his head at some point soon, and maybe that will be the death. Could be cool if they did it right.

I didnt buy it but thumbed through it and I have to say that the panel that has both the question and batwoman in it is poster worthy.

At least the Question was drawn properly this week.

Although the art was good (though a tad inconsistent continuity-wise), I just didn't enjoy this issue. Too little happened. Jimmy's story went nowhere (unless you read Action Comics), and Holly's and the Challengers' story probably didn't even need to be in this issue. The Karate Kid story continues to befuddle me, as it goes in an unexplained direction. The only interesting part was the Trickster/Piper story. Wait, no, the explanation of the separation of the Multiverse was good to have, even if I dislike the explanation.
The big disappointment is that Mary Marvel's story was building, what with the inclusion of both Eclipso and Zatanna, and it fails to be included in this issue.

I don't get it. In the extra bits, it says that The Source Wall and Anti-Life were seperating the Multiverse as if that's what it was always for. So what was the purpose of both when the single post-crisis Earth existed?

Batwoman! The Question! Drawn properly! That's all it takes for me to buy my first ever Countdown issue (I almost did last week, but Renee didn't actually do anything, and that art was dreadful).
As for the rest of the issue, I've been following along online, so I wasn't lost with regards to what was going on. But I'm far from hooked - were it not for Renee and Kate, I could've just kept reading the plot online without feeling like I was missing anything much.

i aggre, i thought jimmy would die at the end of the action comics, arc 3-2-1. cuz it seems like its counting down to something, and i thought it was counting down to the death of jimmy olsen. but i was wrong. BUt he will die though.

Wonder what's up with Oracle's security breach? Who's stealing the home addresses of heroes?

If I recall, it stopped devious bastards like Darkseid from acessing the source (God/heaven/pure energy/life/anti-life) and learning the Anti-Life Equation, somthing that has been shown in a million different ways over the years, but most often is shown as a formula that proves that life is pointless and thus makes people remarkably easy to dominate and thus rule (you're apparently much more likely to become a mindless drone if you've been so crushed that someone has proven that your life is useless).
I have no idea why the space between universes is filled with Anti-Life. That's just... Confusing.

Yeah I know but what i'm saying is that they say that the source and anti-life seperates the multiverse, but both things existed when there was no multiverse, so where are they going with this? Obviously Countdown is something majr and having to do with the New Gods.

has anyone developed a drink game when it comes to jason todd?
who in real life uses someone full name everytime they address that person?
everytime someone address jason todd they say "jason todd". Any reason that he no longer wears the red hood?

I thought this issue of Countdown was the best in some time. Each storyline advanced forward somewhat and each had something interesting in it. Trickster and Piper was the best storyline and is getting more and more interesting for each issue now. I can't wait to see how they tackle the Question and Batwoman.
Karate Kid is a favorite character for me, but so far in Countdown he is the most ellusive since very little is said about his involvment. I'm hoping the next issues can shed some light on his part in Countdown.
Weakest this time I say "The Challengers" storyline was, which go nowhere this issue.
Overall I would say that Countdown is growing for me. It's nowhere near 52 but it's not all bad either, and in my opinion it might get better, certainly has potential for it. Let's hope...
P.S. Does anyone know what happened to the New Gods involment in the story? Apart from Lightray's death and Sleez involment some issues ago I haven't see anything more...
Edit: van_line: The hood got smashed in Jason and Donna's fight with Forerunner.

It'll be a day or two before I can get around to picking up this week's issue: what happened in the Monitors backup (HISTORY OF THE MULTIVERSE)? Last week, they'd gotten up to 52 already, hadn't they? What more is there to say?

The Monitors explain the way the current multiverse is. Fifty-two universes seperated by the Source Wall, beyond which lies Anti-Life. Travel through the wall is impossible by normal means, but the unpredictable Bleed sometimes pops through it.
Basically, they boiled down awesome metaphysical concepts like the Source, the Wall, and Anti-Life into tangible things. Really crappy.

I have the comic where the Atom (Ray Palmer) was helping Zatanna search for Zatara. I marked HEAVILY for that scene in this ish.
The scene with Karate Kid looking for the weak spot in Oracle's defenses was my favorite scene, though (the facial expression with the "tek" was a brilliant bit of story-telling by Califore).
Trickster and Piper are steadily replacing Blue and Gold as my favorite funny-book duo.

Me too, and the scene where they arrive doesn't look anything like Catamoore. It looks like the weird place Zatanna took her group of mystics and Dr. 13 in Seven Soldiers. Which isn't necessarily bad, because the art made it look awesome. I hope Calafiore keeps coming back, because he's about the only artist who hasn't disappointed me. Him and Calero.
And I agree, the scene with Karate Kid tapping the wall was a nice touch.

Well, they mentioned that they had Shadow Demons at their disposal as weapons. You know... the ones used in COIE by the ANTI-Monitor? I found that interesting. I think there's a streak of Anti-Monitor in some of our boys (and gal).

This is the first Countdown issue since like....#50, that I actually feel is worth-while enough to re-read again in the future.
If that's not a good comparison to the past 10 issues I don't know what is.

Because Red Hood is a villain, y'know. Whereas if we see his face and use his civilian name, maybe it'll humanize him enough to pretend that Donna Troy could forget he's a murderous loose cannon who's attacked several of her closest friends?

My first thought was "Finally, all of this is going somewhere." Then I got to thinking about it, and I am not a big fan of the Jimmy story, the Holly story or the Jason "For the love of God I should still be dead" Todd/Donna "My backstory is just as confusing as Hawkman" Troy story.
But...
I love the Suicide Squad...so...between them chasing down Piper and Trickster and Karate Kid actually doing something I enjoyed the issue.

DId no-one else wince when they read that the Anti-Life Equation lay between the Source Walls?
Guess we know what Darkseid will be doing then...

I think Winick explained it in his run on Batman. He was stealing from The Joker and screwing with Batman's head at the same time.

Yup! They actually drew the new Question half decently. That last issue was terrible.

I vaguely recall that that idea has been around for a while. I think that was the reason why Darkseid was trapped on the Source Wall for a few years....Was it Genesis that it happened in?

There was a Darkseid-likeness on the Source Wall beginning in the X-MEN/NEW TEEN TITANS crossover APOKOLIPS NOW, which I think was the actual first appearance of the Source Wall.
Of course, that's likely out of continuity because not only did it occur Pre-COIE, but it took place on that Earth that was an amalgmation of Pre-DCU Earth-One and Bronze Age Marvel Earth. :)
