Somehow i missed this, and just downloaded it today.
The game looks pretty dang good, spell effects in particular. Couldn't get a real sense of the music since i only played one part of the demon, the dungeon song isn't annoying though, while the boss fight music is just laughably bad (I'm not a huge fan of jpop though). Voice work is on par with an average bit of anime, some characters are very, very annoying, some of the dialogue suffers from either bad translation or just bad writing.
No idea whats going on in the story, since they just kinda plop you into the game, but it doesn't seem bad. Anybody else have thoughts on it?

Blue Dragon is everything I hate about JRPGs rolled up into one game. The demo didn't change my mind

As a JRPG fan, I enjoyed this, and will be getting the game.

Those two posts are pretty much where people will fall.
I think im just starved for one, haven't played an old fashioned console rpg in ages.

Pretty much. It appears to be the best example of a kind of game that some people love, and some people hate. Personally, I've fallen out of the JRPG croud. Knights of the Old Republic showed me you can make what is essentially a JRPG, and yet somehow make it suck less by pretending that it isn't.

KOTOR wasn't anything close to a JRPG. It's a Western RPG all they way...it's much closer to a Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter nights than a FF or DQ.

In that no one suddenly said let's let the villain win because humanity sucks, yeah. I'm just talking about in terms of the game design itself. Three characters, magic moves, random attack sequences... you tell me what that sounds like.

KOTOR played nothing like FF.

Unless you think FF invented "magic". But that seems like a pretty flimsy connection

KOTOR played far more like a 20 game: dice rolls, stats, and all.

That said, I adore both KOTOR games: the replayability level is very high(not so much on many JRPGs I own).

Like I already said, it plays like other western RPGs like Baldur's Gate 2 or Neverwinter Nights. The game itself doesn't really play like a FF game.
