Another major death coming? DiDio said yes, and asked the crowd "Are we tired of death?" which met a rather mixed response. "You will see more death," said the editor. "We don't do things just for the sake of the shock value; it all has to do with the greater good."
From the DC Nation Panel at SDCC.
How in the world can all the deaths go to the "greater good"? By what logic can Didio possibly say that?
I support DC and the Crisis and all, but still...

............Go to hell Didio. (I really, really hate the direction he has taken DC)
*sigh* Most likely it'll be a newer character, since he seems to have an out for them. I'm guessing the New Gods, since their mini coming up is titled "Death of the New Gods." Mr. Mircle and Big Barda look to be on the chopping block. Maybe one of the Titans get's offed again? Regardless, I'm sick of crossovers (from any company) that promises a bunch of death of characters I probably like.

If Scott Free does die, I'll never forgive them. Looks like it's going to happen though. *sigh*

If anybody should be able to escape death, it's Mister Miracle. I liked the way he was handled in Another Nail.

Yeah, I'm really leery about the Death of the New Gods. I hope we don't get a crappy, watered down version of them ala Seven Soldiers. Is this whole thing a plan to supplant Kirby's vision with Morrison's? 'Cause as much as I love Morrison, Kirby is still the King.

Kirby is still the King.

Yeah. He's already pissed off about this whole Captain America thing.

Now this I would pay money for. You don't mess with The King.
Regarding death in the DCU, I really have no problem with it most of the time. It usually results in another character just adopting the identity of the dead character anyway. While it doesn't always work for me, the results have been decent in recent years.
As for New Gods, I actually wouldn't mind seeing them die despite my love of the characters. It's clear that very few creators have a real handle on these concepts and characters. For decades, it's been mostly creators crapping on everything The King established.
So maybe it's time for the New Gods to die, much like the Old Gods did. Barda and Scott survive to tell the tale of the death of the New Gods. From the ashes of New Genesis and Apocalypse, a new race of Gods is born (Newer Gods? Newest Gods?) and Morrison, Starlin or whoever can do what they like without being under the shadow of Kirby.

It would just make me so, so sad to have a DCU without Darkseid, Desaad, Virimin Vunderbar, the Female Furies and emmin-effin' GRANNY GOODNESS. I don't care SO much about the lesser gods of New Genesis, but I love the forces of Apokolips, and the DCU would be much poorer for their loss.

I'm not worried, Kirby started the ball rolling, killing and ressurecting New Gods. I mean what's the point of being a diety if you can't come back from the dead?
It's the down-to-Earth characters coming back to life at the drop of a hat that bugs me.
