It's the San Diego wrap-up, wherein I muse about

* So many great comics, so little time. Let's shut down the industry for August.
* Strategy in timing one's announcements at the con
* Who won the p.r. tug of war this year? Did anyone?
* Has Hollywood taken over? Is that a serious problem for the Comic Con, legally?

It's funny how your [Augie] view of the comic con and the industry at that time, is really shaded by your position in the industry, whether you consider yourself to be a pundit or a fanboy. :) For a common average fan like myself, I can hardly see any difference between this time and some other time. Yeah, there are more articles to read, and some announcements, but really there are no more books to read, and when just reading these accounts from across the web, I have no more of a deep sense of hubbub than any other month.

I can read about Larsen saying how San Diego is five times bigger than NYC (or something like that), but having never been to either, which I am guessing the majority of casual readers haven't, it's difficult to share in this furor, let alone calls to -- either jokingly or in all seriousness -- halt the market for a month afterwards to recuperate. I just thought I'd put forward a view of your view from an "outside" position.

The only thing I can think of that Marvel can announce at Chicago will be the new art team for Adjectiveless X-men, and maybe a new team on Ultimate X-men, if they're planning on bringing some excitemtn to that title. Possibly they can announce next years event, since World War Hulk will be almost over by that time. Other than that, it may just be a recap of all the news from SDCC. Probably not going to Chicago this year though, not enough cash and nothing I need to buy. Don't think I'll really miss it though.
