I didn't see a thread on this, so I thought I'd post if anyone else had seen it? It looks a tad sloppy but at the same time I really like the hastily thrown together look that he's got going on. It definately gives a chaotic vibe of sorts. I wouldn't mess with him. I can't wait to see him in action.

I think that's the first time it's been shown in this forum - thanks!
I quite like it to be honest - it's another photo at an odd angle but you get some idea of what Nolan's going for. There's going to be a lot of annoyed fans who don't like the fact that the Joker's applying make-up to his face instead of having bleached skin - you can see his normal coloured skin on his neck and hands - but I'm not too bothered as it's not crucial to the character. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the liberally-applied eye makeup.

Yeah, early on I was really worried about this as opposed to the skin bleaching, but the more I think about it, the more ok I am with the makeup, especially after the pictures. Afterall, it really isn't that crucial to the Joker's character. And actually seeing the pictures, I like it a lot too. This Joker is 'putting on a mask' just like Batman so to speak, but at the same time, he's obviously scarred and deformed to some extent underneath it all, so in one sense he's still always the Joker. I actually even like the eye makeup, it gives him more of a skull-ish, almost dead, look. I wouldn't mind if the red was a bit darker around the mouth though. But overall, It definately fits better with Nolan's real world take on the Batman mythos. And I also look at it this way, Nolan's got my utmost respect for every movie I've seen of his so far, let alone Begins, so until he proves me wrong, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

One of the things I'm pleased about is the purple suit. I was worried that Nolan's more 'realistic' take would have him drop this in favour of something a bit more down-to-earth (like he did with the Scarecrow's costume) so I'm glad that even in Nolan's more 'grounded' world we still get to see the Joker stand out in his garish suit. It'll hopefully contrast brilliantly with the world that Nolan's set up.

Where is Emo Joker's green hair?
I could have sworn I saw it in a spy photo somewhere.

For all not in favor of the "applied makeup" look, I'm guessing that the skin is actually the makeup, and the white his his true color, a revelation the authorities discover at the end of the film. Something of a "last laugh," if you will.

What do you mean? His hair is clearly green in that picture.

Admittedly my eye sight isn't that good at the moment but all I really see is the tint of Ledger's blonde locks.

I like this new joker; he looks horrifing, like his insanity isn't the result of an accident, but that this is who he is, what he grew into. I love that there is a cut smile on his face, and I have little doubt that he did it himself. And his laugh in the teaser... looking forward to this one.

Based on what I've seen so far I really like this Joker; it's a lot more 'out-there' than the Scarecrow was when compared to his comic-book interpretation and if any villain from the Batman mythos needs to be more 'out-there' and over-the-top it's the Joker. So far it seems they're doing a good job of reconciling the 'more realistic take' on Batman with the source material. This could obvioiusly change when I see the film but based on all the evidence so far I have a good feeling about it.

Well, that pic is much, much better than the first one where he looked stoned and looked like he ate his lipstick. And actually pretty Jokerish. As for the idea of his wearing white make-up, one theory I heard is this:
Like the original Batman movie, the REAL make-up is where ever are the flesh tones. In this case, Joker just applied it to his wrists, hands, neck, and spotted/blended it to his face to make it look like he's just some nut wearing clown make-up, when it fact the white part is his actual skin tone. Thereby the joke is that his "mask" is not really a mask.

With regards to that spoiler: I don't see why that would be. I really can't imagine what impact that would have. Why would anyone (especially the non-comic buying audience who don't care about the Joker's bleached face/flesh make-up) care?

In the 'real world' of Nolans movies I could see his face being white because he's an albino or something (I hope there's no chemical bath) but... if he's putting on lipstick and black around his eyes, and being a f---ing psycho... why would he want to look like he's wearing more make up and has normal skin tones?
I don't honestly think he'd care. I think a lot of comic fans, and no offence here, are just trying to attatch the comic joker to the movie joker.
It looks like his hair is died, and he's wearing white make up.

Well, it's just a theory, but as for an explanation why the white part is actually his real skin and the flesh parts are actually cleverly placed make-up to make it look like make-up If you take a look at the website where the pics come from, you'll see those police reports about the Joker which talk about the Joker starting some kind of riot and how eyewitnesses said that he seemed to be everywhere at once, and concluding with the last report that says the Joker is dead, and shows a picture of some fat guy--not Heath Ledger--wearing clown make-up. In other words, the Joker had a bunch of guys wear clown make-up in order to make it seem like he was everywhere at once, which confused the public and the police, along with the added bonus of faking his death. By making it appear that his real skin is actually make-up, he can blend in with his henchmen, thereby making it harder for the cops and Batman to single him out as the actual Joker. Furthermore, by making it so that he's hiding the fact that his real skin color his chalk white, it makes it harder for the authorities to find him, because as far as they're concerned, their prime suspect is a Caucasian male with blond hair who wears make-up and dyes his hair, rather than some albino or chemically bleached man with green hair. The same tactic can also be said about those pictures of him wearing those rubber clown masks. I'm sure there will be a scene where Batman makes the observation that a Joker in a deck of playing card functions as the "wild card" meaning that it takes on the role of other cards in the deck, which of course also would not only reflect the Joker's personality, but also tie in with the idea that he fools others by making himself appear to be something he's not in order to gain an advantage. Furthermore, it's another nod to the comics, in that the Joker has often used body-doubles to throw people off track, such as the beginning of the Killing Joke.
EDIT: And as for surprise value, well some who are not familiar with Batman would be surprised, but since fans of the comic know this already, perhaps the twist is that the Joker's skin wasn't bleached by accident, by Batman or some mobsters dropping him in--but rather the Joker did it to himself.
Then again, I'm perfectly okay with the idea that this version of the Joker wears make-up, especially since Nolan's Batman films are going for a quasi-realism take.

Realitically it wouldn't make sense for him to have gotten white skin through a freak accident. I second the make up idea, it defenitly makes it creepier when things are realistic.

Actually, it could be possible to bleach the skin without make-up. Think the movie The Cell where the Vincent D'Nofero character bathes his victims in vats of bleached water with high concentrations of chlorine, which gave them a chalky white appearance. Also, certain bleaches like calcium hypochlorite and sodium dichlorisocyanurate can also turn hair green, especially lighter colored hair, although what actually happens is the hair is bleached and thus allows any copper sulfate residue in the water to show up in the hair. Of course, it would cause massive skin and eye irritation. And if the Joker appearance was the result of being chemically bleached like the comics, whose to say it was an accident? Maybe the movie will reveal that the Joker did this to himself.

My eyesight is really bad but I could see the green. I think it works. I don't think the perma-white skin is necessary for the character and I like the low-tech elements of the look.

If no body else is going to say it I will. I HATE this new Joker look. The Joker is the best villian in the best rogues gallery in comics. Why mess with perfection? Heath looks like some bum who got disfigured in a bar room brawl. And he is so hoped up on drugs he decided it would be cool to put on freaky makeup.
The comic book joker is brightly colored and insanely happy. Therefore he is the foil to batman's dark and sinister persona. This joker is dark and sinister, just like batman.
Perhaps Heath's performance will overshadow the stylistic choices, but I'm not a fan of this new look at all.

I have a crazy thought. What if Ledger not the real joker in this movie but Anthony Hall.I mean,we don't know what character Hall will play and a promotional site tells that Joker use stand-in to cover his trails.I wonder if Heath Ledger character is just a stand in for the real Joker(something familiar with Ra's al Ghul in the first movie).

I really can't imagine they'd do the same twist again to be honest.
Anyway, I though Anthony Hall's character had been confirmed as being (SPOILERS)another vigilante, sort of inspired by Batman?
