View Full Version : NEW WARRIORS #3 - Spoilers
After what appears to be a training session the New Warriors unmask, except Blackwing. Decibel looks like Chamber after Tieri's upgrades. Unfortunately Jubes calls them all by their new code names, so we don't get much by way of positive IDs. Tempest may or may not be Angel. There's also a kid genius helping out. The new team has been using tech aquired from Murderworld. Jubes is trying to enlist Sofia, who remains unsure.
Thrash's costume is indeed empty. Lots of clues point to this really being Dwane. In fact, it's almost TOO obvious.

This book is slowly becoming one of my most anticipated each month. Another great issue, i am loving the characters and where they are going with it.. though and i know this is going to seem off, but i really do not care much for Night Thrasher at all. I didnt care about him in any of the runs of New Warriors and now i care even less. I think it would be cool if it was just Jubes picking ex-mutants for her team and using the name as thier banner. but what can ya do? :)
Anyone else super excited at the return of Jono? :D Decpite the not so awesome new codename... (need a scan of his panel for new avatar goodness)

I liked this better than the last two issues, but I'm still kinda "eh" on this book. Some of the dialog is downright cringe-worthy, and the mystery with Night Thrash's identity doesn't seem as interesting as it should be to me. I DID like the scene between Wolvie and Jubilee, though. I'll be sticking with the book until the end of the first arc, at least.

Actually, they DO call Blackwing Barry, which we know is Beak's current nickname, short for Barnell, so although he didn't unmask, our winged New Warrior (formerly refered to as War Hawk in interviews) is indeed Beak as many of us, including myself, put together (Since it is Wednesday and the book is out, and it is no longer advance, and SPOILERS are in the title, it is gratuitous to highlight them).

I gave this new series a chance and its been a positive surprise. It has a little bit of an early thunderbolts feel as far as the mystery goes.
I agree, something about Night thrasher's suspected resurrection seems off. The way its being written now would seem anti-climactic if it does turn out to be him. Not that I'd be upset if the original came back somehow.

Nice to see jono back i just hate the fact that the other charaters looks so generic faced that they could be anyone in the marvel universe. IT was a nice scene between Logan and Jubilee and I do think the mystery of night thrasher is intriguing. It was a little childish though for them to spray paint on that building.

If the DNA in the costume is incomplete, could the Dwayne at the Stamford incident been a Skrull imposter?
They were able to mimic Wolverine's DNA to get past X-men's tests.

yeah, i didn't like this issue. the change in Bandit is pretty unbelievable, if you ask me. a car accident made him suddenly like Dwayne, develop a philathropy streak, and magically become an engineer. 2 bucks says that he really has legs beneath that blanket or his costume allows him to walk (a la M.A.N.T.I.S). i just don't like how it's played out. and i'm not a big fan of Donyell. otherwise, i think Skybolt is the mutant formerly known as Spector (Dallas Gibson). i'm thinking Ripcord is the living Vale sister.
Again, more than likely. It's a little bit of misdirection. If it was Dwayne, they'd be showing you right now how impossible it was for it to be Dwayne.
just my opinion but i think this was handled sloppily. if Night Thrasher is the surprise, he shouldn't even have appeared until issue 3 or 4. the way it's been done, him being Dwayne Taylor would be anti-climactic.

you have a point. but the new x-men were at that academy to, basically, learn to be heroes. being young and idealistic, they probably think that they were cheated of their destiny (w/ Decimation). and Night Thrasher might actually be exploiting their sense of entitlement, idealism, and desperation for repowerment for his own cause. it's not unlike Dwayne, when you think about how the original team was formed. he's a manipulative s.o.b sometimes. but, yeah, i'd prefer brand new characters since i was never impressed w/ the new mutants.

When she called him Decibel, she was with the rest of the team. Who knows, I wouldn't be surprised if the team members don't all know each others' real names. Jubilee seems to be using her real name, but as we all know, Barnell is going by Barry now; maybe they're intentionally using aliases so that none of them can give up information if captured by SHIELD. Wouldn't put it past Thrash to enact a plan like that... while the original Warriors eventually came to be a family, he definitely first saw them as nothing more than a weapon he could wield to do some good, his own personal strike force.
I'm sure I'm just slow for not thinking of this earlier, but I wonder if they get to pick their engineered powers? If so, that's a nice homage on Jono's part, taking on the powers of his deceased headmaster.

Actually, it was Thrash's intent to make the Warriors his family. That's why he only wanted four members at first. Treating them as a strikeforce just came from his no-nonsense attitude and tough time relating to others.

Got a good laugh when I realised that Sofia appeared to be looking at Jubes' chest right before she started laughing.
The series has been ok, but just that. But it's moving much too slowly for my tastes.
Hated the Wolverine appearance. ID's jubilee from tv, then tracks her down so freaking easily even though Stark and the cops have no clue. Just hate that 'wolverine is so good at stuff cause he's popular' crap.
The scene with the medical examiner was hilarious. Well, we barely have any evidence who was in the night thrasher suit, but we said it was Dwayne anyway just because.
Will read the next one in the store, and if things don't pick up, this'll most likely be dropped.

Actualy Wolverine gets stuck far more often with "We need to prove BLANK is super-cool and powerful, let's have him beat up Wolverine!" then "wolverine is so good at stuff cause he's popular". Not to mention, it makes sense that Wolvie would be able to recognize that it's Jubs from her eyes and general fighting style. Stark probably bearly remembers who she is, and her and Wolverine were partners for a long time.

Well, if you're a medical examiner in Marvel's New York, you have to have some serious mental issues. I can just see a group of Pathologists standing around playing rock paper sissors over who's going to give Jean Grey the Autopsy THIS time. :D

Is it really that big a deal? Yes, Jubilee is usually depicted as fairly flat-chested, just like Kitty Pryde. And, just like Kitty, there are occasional artists who give her humongous jugs. Sure, I don't love it either, but is it really worth this much complaining? I'm not trying to single you out in particular, Zel, it just seems like something that's not worth such a fuss. The cop thing I'm not sure where that is going. Keep in mind it's right at the end and those thing aren't alwasy what they seem. However the graffiti wasn't. In fact it was perfect. Keep in mind Stark went on National television and laid down an ultimatum. The New Warriors had to answer this in the same way. They had to show Stark they were serious about their stance. Yes spray paint seems juvenile, however it shows that the initiative has no sway over them.
So is Bandit in on it or not? Personally I think he is.

Currently at least three of the characters are ex-mutants. The original Night Thrasher was human. The status of the other characters has not yet been confirmed.

Blackwing, they changed his name at the last minute, probably to avoid any potential issues/confusion about the similarities between the JLU Warhawk and Barry's new look. I spoke to Kevin Grievoux briefly about it at San Diego, and he and I both mentioned the pre-existing Marvel Warhawks that predate the JLU character by several decades. Even though, Blackwing is a good name too, and Joseph Manfredi hasn't made a significant appearance in his Blackwing get-up for some time, so somone ought to use it.

Awww, I liked Warhawk much better. But I guess that makes sense. :(
I must have missed the name change when I was reading. Still awesome, regardless. :D

I kinda hope all of them aren't ex-mutants but it wouldn't stop me from reading the book. Everybody (seemingly) being tech powered is kinda "iffy" for me but again it won't keep me away as long as the book continues to be good.

Jubilee: Depowered mutant. No academic qualifications. No employment history. Living in California.
She did Porn.
Hence the implants.

Maybe after she felt so bad about not sleeping with Skin, she decided to atone by... y'know...
...sleeping with everybody else.

Bad pacing, shoddy plots, poor inking, those would all merit complaints. But massive cans on a comic character, by an artist with a relatively cartoony style?

I like all sizes, including small. But small, perky ones are so few and far between in comics. So when some dufus artist on auto-pilot makes'em big for no reason it you gotta make some noise to stand up for the minority. :)

I like that Jubilee still has a "When I was with the X-men" attitude.

liked this issue, but like almost everyone else, i've got an issue with the Dwayne/Thrasher plot going on... if they had spread one part/clue of it over 2 issues it might have read better, but now that everything is crammed into ONE issue, just reads a little crammed-like.
despite my original hopes that it is Dwayne, i'm now hoping it's not and that there's a surprise, because it being Dwayne would just be too obvious.

she should team up with Photon
"When i led the avengers i would have did this"
"When i was with the x-men, i probably would have just followed what the leader said to do"
*photon and jubilee make out*
Good comic that

A Marvel team-up between Photon and Jubilee would sell at least several copies. :D

Yeah, but she seems to have lost some of her spark in terms of personality. She doesn't have that "live life to the fullest because you never know when it'll go sour on you" attitude she always seemed to have before. She's been through a lot, though. And from her conversations with Sofia and Logan, I have a feeling she will be sent on the path to getting that back as well as maybe developing into a leader in her own way.
Ok, this is just something that crossed my mind tonight Dwanye was at Stamford, and lost his legs. He asked Donyell for help, and they agreed that the world should beliee that Dwane had died, while he assumed his brother's identity, and rebuilt his company, leaving Donyell to act as Night Thrasher...

Ya know I'm thinking that maybe Jubilees sudden growth came from whatever SHIELD did to heal her from that fallen beam. I mean sh had a freaking hole in her body that's very lethal. Maybe SHIELD used some radical healing treatment that happened to enhance her body a little.
I think that they're going to turn out to be bionic weapon housings. :D

That's another possibility. But then why hasn't he ever taken his mask off in front of the team. None of these members have ever met Dwayne or Donyell. That wouldn't know the difference.

They're not trying to fool the team, but the authorities, who would put Dwane on trial on the spot if they got their hands on him.

Actually, it turns out that the presence of her X-gene was what was preventing her from developing as much as she should have. It's so sad. You hear about the Skins, the Chambers and the Nightcrawlers. But you never hear about some of the more subtle physical limitations of being a mutant. :D
Or maybe, Paco Medina just draws most women like that.

Hmm... Good theory. I knew they had thrown that in for a reason, but couldn't quite figure out why. I suspect its a toss-up between your theory that Dwayne lost his legs and Donyell is posing in the suit, or B) Donyell lost his legs while taking over for Dwayne, and Dwayne is now back in the suit. Since the DNA is incomplete it could have been from either etc...
