Wizard recently hosted a little round-table discussing Watchmen and the upcoming movie adaptation. Link is http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/005254673.cfm (here) In it, one of the guys mentions that he's been shocked that no one has brought up that the Marvel Registration is the same as the Keene Act in Watchmen: the required unmasking and registration of all super-powered individuals.

This caught me a little off guard because, well, I love Watchmen and i can't believe I didn't think of this either. Of course, in reading Watchmen I always thought that it could only be the future of the Marvel Earth and not DC because, well, it really just didn't fit.

Anyway, so I found myself thinking about Ozymandias' ultimate plan for world peace (staging an alien invasion to bring everyone together under one cause) and I realized that it is the same as Tony Stark's plan to piss off Atlantis in order to get everyone behind the Initiative. To top it off, Watchmen also has a underground newspaper that becomes aware of the truth and has the potential to reveal it (although the story ends before they make that call), which of course is just like Ben Urich and that Sally person. So all together, while Tony Stark didn't sacrifice millions of lives to create his vision of peace (and I doubt he ever would) he's clearly thinking along those same lines.

I actually enjoy that Civil War is took some strokes from the Watchmen canvas (whether intentional or not, but hell, i daresay everyone in comics today is somewhat inspired by Watchmen anyway).

No one mentioned registration was like Watchmen?

This must be a parody thread.
