View Full Version : Favorite non-married couple

Marriage in comics tend to be the exception, not the rule. And when they do happen a divorce or a death does tend to hang over them. Not that they always don't work; Sue and Reed seem happy most of the time (most of the time). But everyone loves a good couple, and romance has been a huge part of comic books ever since Superman made a pass at Lois.
So, baring married couples, which lovely-lovely is your current favorite. I would add a poll, but polls are kinda restricting and well, sometimes a couple is a couple but not really a couple even though they are... polls can't cover that. Now, if you look to my avatar, my favorite couple should be pretty obivious to figure out.
I like Phyla, and I like Moondragon. They just seem to bring out the best qualities of each other when their together. Quasar seems more sure/secure in herself, and Heather is a lot less bitchy. Now they are a lesbian couple, but so far Marvel has been pretty tame with them, and we've yet to see a kiss or even a hint of sex between them (yes, they slept on some hay; their cloths were on and they've only been there for 3 hours). Not to mention Moondragon's relationship with the previous Quasar make her relationship with the new one rather interesting. They are just a well done couple, and it's nice that they have each other in their multiple times of crisis.

Superheroes should be sexless, the way Jerry Siegel intended. Therefor, because they aren't superheroes and for some reason no one ever mentions this comic, despite it being one of Marvel's best sellers, I'm going to say Roland and Susan Delgado. So tragic...

Why should heroes be sexless? Aside from the whole "we have powers" thing, most of our heroes are human, with human needs and drives and desires. Even the most godlike of the superheroes, people like Thor and the Silver Surfer, desire someone to love. We now live in a world where our comic book heroes are not defined by how different they are from us but how similar.

And here I was originally going to take it a step further, since a non-married relationship generally involves a woman, and that means non-marital sex, which would make her a slut. But I pulled it back a notch.
"My favorite couple is She-Hulk and whomever she happens to be standing next to at the time."
I think I'm serious about the Roland and Susan thing, though. If anything just because that book gets no Internet chatter for some reason, despite being perhaps the prettiest book being published by Marvel right now.

Wow there are actually couples in comics? In most of the ones I read they just have sex but you rarely see them do anything that would normally qualify them as a couple. Isn't marvels stand on couples is that "Let the readers make accusations and have their fantasies about who they want to see hook up. We'll just make everyone bed each other every other month to feed their fantasies."
Seriously going by the above definition of a Marvel Couple I say David and Noriko from New X-Men. I don't really see much couple stuff happening with them ever, but they did have the dramatic episodes of fearing for one another, and the implied fact that David can just strole up into Nori's room for a brief chat then sex in the X-Mansion means anything can go down in there. :)
Are we certain the mutants can't repopulate themselves?
2nd favorite would probably be.... dang, i cant think of a 2nd.

Cloak and Dagger.
They didn't actually have a thing going though did they? I know they're really close but I thought it was much more of a brother/sister type relationship?
Anyway, I'm gonna say that I like Black Cat and Puma as a couple. It just kinda works IMO.
Hey, what about Sue Richards and Namor?
Oh, c'mon....they are so obviously 'at it' behind Reed's back! :evilsmile

Gotta admit, The Roland Deschain/Susan Delgado romance is a good one, certainly the most tragic 'cause you know she dies and Roland carries her memory around like a weight for the rest of his life (which is a damn long time considering how the Dark Tower ended).
But as long as I'm on the subject of dead characters, I always thought Guardian and Vindicator made a good couple. I always thought James and Heather Hudson worked, even through all those years when they technically weren't together due to circumstance.
And are Iron Fist and Misty Knight still together? I haven't been following Heroes for Hire, so I'm not up on them anymore.

Yeah, I always figured that too about Cloak and Dagger. Those two have got kink written all over them. Since Cloak is basically living shadow, is he even capable of having physical sex anyway? Maybe the whole feeding thing, that's how they do it?
And good call on Ben and Alicia! They've always been good together. And yeah, I think they are back together again. Ben's limited series awhile back certainly hinted towards that in the final issues.
And while I thought the whole Lyja thing was a little contrived, I was so relieved when she turned out NOT to be Alicia. She and Johnny Storm did so not work for me.

So a dude turns into a girl and a lesbian character dates a guy.
THat seems a little odd. Unfeesible/belittling a characters orientation, etc.

I don't think she discriminates when it comes to gender if you get what I mean.
She continues to display interest in both Victor and Karolina. I was afraid Whedon might try to change that dynamic and turn her into the asian Willow but he seems interested in continuing to play it up at the moment.

Well, that stinks. I always liked Diamondback and Cap together. We saw her on Cap's side during the Civil War, you'd think some writer over at Marvel would remember "Oh, yeah. Cap did have a girlfriend who gave up a life of crime and reformed just to be with him, didn't he? Maybe we ought to do one of those 'Fallen Son' issues dealing with her grief process 'cause many of the others have sucked (except the Hawkeye one)."

In the past they've had hints that Cloak does have or has had feelings for Tandy, but that while she loves him as her partner and best friend, that she doesn't feel the same way.
During the "Misadventures of Cloak and Dagger" series, Tandy Bowen - who was blind at the time, living with her Uncle Mike and believing Cloak/Tyrone Johnson to be dead (when he was actually captured and held in thrall of a villianess who had stolen his powers), traveled with her Uncle Mike to the gravesite reserved for Cloak once his remains were discovered and recovered. She was delirious because without Cloak's darkness to feed, the excess light was burning her up.
When at the cemetary, Tandy asked her Uncle for a moment alone. When he left, she went through a very maudlin routine which culminated with her releasing her light into the heavens and proclaiming to Cloak (wherever she presumed him to be), that she loved him. Her words, "I LOVE YOU!" Eventually, Cloak managed to free himself from the villianess and was reunited with Dagger who despaired for a way to tell Cloak how she really felt about him. However, Brigid O'Reilly's partner Rebecca "Rusty" Nales had also developed a decidedly strong attraction to Tyrone and not being as hesitant as Tandy, took the initiative. While at the zoo and with Tandy sitting on a bench nearby, Rusty Nales planted a passionate kiss right on Cloak's kisser. The next shot was of a blind Tandy Bowen, blind but able to hear very well. She knew what was going on. The "thought balloon" extending from Tandy's head included the words, "Oh no."
So at least in the "Misadventures" run, Tandy Bowen did have definite romantic feelings for Tyrone Johnson.
