Okay this is a think tank kind of thread. Pick a relatively young (or new) superhero and then pick a junior or senior superhero that would be ideal in teaching this younger one the ropes. This isn't just about how to act like a superhero but how best to control and fully utilize their unique talents. So while Luke Cage is a senior Superhero with all kinds of skills he wouldn't actually be the most ideal hero for someone like Hellion since he doesn't have any of his super human abilities, nor does his attitude match his. I'll start us off with a example of what I'm thinking about.

Newbie: Mercury (Cessily Kincaid)
Mentor: Shadow cat (Kitty Pryde)

Pairing Reasons: Mercury is very much the next generation Kitty, her ability to become a amorphous puddle of liquid mercury means for the most part she is the most likely to be used for stealth, scouting missions, sabotage. Being able to slip through cracks, cling to surfaces, move while amorphous and virtually undetectable by most means of non visual confirmation, (infra vision, and of other forms of detection that are based around living, breathing, carbon based detection.) all of this is similar to Ms Pryde's function on most X-Teams.

Combine this with her ability to reshape herself in various ways (creating weapons out of herself or to a degree stretching her limbs/self.) means she always has a arsenal of weapons at her disposal.

What Gains?:
1.) Definitely Kitty's superior knowledge of knowing just what to look for when doing Stealth, Scouting and or being a Saboteur.

2.) Ninja skills, while most of this is covered in 1. The martial arts aspect (What Wolverine has taught her + what Cessily has already obtained from experience and training session in the x-mansion should be sufficient in rounding out her combat skills, hopefully making her a particularly exceptional agility/graceful fighter.

3.) Computer skills. We don't know much outside of combat about the New X-Men. Save for David and Josh no one else seems to have a non-combative use or knowledge I should say that could be applied in some other manner. Giving Cess some kind of background in a new field of study might be interesting if not useful should the need arrive for her to do something that doesn't revolve around killing something else. :)

4.) Reflexive Un-solidifying: One of the things I remember being said about Kitty is that on occasion she has reflexively made herself phase in anticipation of being attacked. This would be the most important thing to pass on the Cess, some how teaching her how to basically reflexively making all of most of her body lucid enough that objects can pass through her without causing her trauma. Especially for those bastards who keep throwing electrical attacks or weapons at her. (it be nice to see those shocking projectiles used to capture her during the mercury rising arc fly right through a hole she makes her in chest. Same with people flinging energy projectiles at her.) This could also mean, molding herself around attacks like I described above.

Lastly tem-plating: I'd Love to see Cess take Morrigan from Darkstalkers combat template. In the sense that Morrigan reshapes a number of bats into various attack forms. Like her standing fierce punch is that she makes the bats that form her shawl on her back extend around to the front in the form a many stabbing spears or her standing jab where her hair snaps forward and mash her opponents in the face. Many of Morrigans non fireball throwing moves could easily be adapted by Cess especially that spinning blade technique.

the Shroud (Maximillian Coleridge) should mentor Dusk (Cassandra St. Commons); in the use of her darkforce abilities, business, and navigating the criminal underworld.

Black Fox should mentor Eric O'Grady in the finer points of jewel thievery/breaking-&-entering.
