View Full Version : Humanity as an Empire

This thought occured to me while in a fever-induced set of dreams (plus I read too many comics)-

The state of the Marvel Cosmos is one of chaos right now. The Shi'ar are still reeling from the Phoenix, Cassandra Nova, and Vulcan. The Kree Empire is being decimated between Annhilation and Conquest. And the Skrulls... well, they've gotten their asses handed to them to the point where they're hanging by a thread (perhaps next year will be different, but who knows).

That said, it seems like now would be as good a time as any for the citizens of Planet Earth to consider branching out, no? I can't recall when the scales have been made so even for all races before. I also imagine it would be an interesting development for humanity- they must be well aware of the existence of aliens between Galactus, Phalanx, the dreadful "Maximum Security" (for which I imagine many citizens would still be kinda pissed), etc. With geniuses like Richards, Stark and Pym, you most certainly have the technology to explore space. Additionally, there have been a # of stories over the years (FF#400 comes to mind) that suggest that mankind in the Marvel Universe has limitless potential and may be destined for something of this nature.

I think, post Skrullmageddon, this would be an interesting direction for Marvel to take- starting a Human Empire. Any thoughts?

A good idea, but Marvel still flows with real life. And real life has too many different nations, with different agendas.

Despite the sorry state of the Kree and the Shi'ar right now, I don't think they would be too thrilled with humans starting up their own empire. Humanity tends to scare them a little, what with the fact that there are more super-powered beings on Earth than the rest of the known universe.

Actually, the Shi'ar aren't all that bad. Sure, their leadership is in a sorry state, but their military is still very strong. And don't forget those wily Badoons, who would take major offense to anyone else trying to build up an Empire in the Milky Way. What Earth could do though is share some of their hundreds of super-heroes. And give them back Genis and Beta Ray Bill.

Yeah, we need to get our shit together on Earth before we think about setting up franchises.

This would be a great idea! I would launch with 2 ongoings, both written by someone who could really handle a story with this scale: Morrison , DandA, a scifi writer who loves marvel cosmic, etc.

One book would focus on the Earth delegation and its plan to explore, process, and colonize other solar systems. This would include, scientists and superheroes from around the world, (FF, S.W.O.R.D., others) This book would involve the different factions of Humanity trying to work together while other factions would have their own interests (such as HYDRA and AIM and Doom and rogue nations)

The other book would focus on the alien civilizations and how they will respond, such as Kree and Humanity both having an interest in planet A.

But to make it work, past Cosmic continuity must be recognised.

Humanity as a galactic empire was already touched on in Avengers Forever.

What happened in Avengers Forever? I remember when that came out, but I never read it. I also wanted to read X-men forever, but who knows if that was ever any good...
