Time travel is a popular theme in science fiction. While many sci-fi shows feature time travel in some capacity (Two Star Trek films, and a number of popular episodes, revolve around the concept) there are shows in which it is the premise....Any favorites?

A few notables:

Back to the Future-Comedy/sci-fi series featuring Micheal J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as they go around time in a Delorean as they get involved in adventures mostly featuring the need to repair the timeline after screwing it up.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure-Sci-fi/Comedy where a group of teens kidnap historical figures in order to write a history paper.

Doctor Who-Sci-fi adventure with some elements of comedy as a time/space travelling alien travels through both time and space with a variety of companions. Some episodes don't necesarilly involve time-travel, though. Over 40 years old, and it's been on the air for a combined roughly 30 years (There were some hiatuses).

Quantam Leap-sci-fi drama where a scientist 'leaps' into the bodies of individuals and must assume their identity to 'make right what once went wrong'.

Time Tunnel-Classic sixties show.

Planet of the Apes-Film franchise goes into a future where man has devolved and apes have evolved into the dominant race. One installment, Escape from the planet of the Apes, also deals with going back to the present day (Well, the 70s at least).

Timecop-Van Damme movie which spawned a series and sequel.

12 Monkeys-Cult Bruce Willis/Brad Pitt time-travel film.

Time Machine-The H.G Wells novel which started it all, also adapted into several film adaptations.

Back to the Future with Planet of the Apes a VERY close second. Future gets the nod from me because of the consistent quality throughout the series. As much as Part II might get picked on, it wasn't that bad, not as bad as some of those Planet of the Apes movies got.

classically, I think Dr. Who has them all beat. But some of the others are really great too. :)

I love "The Time Tunnel", it's so cheesy and terrible.

Where's Voyager?

I kid, I kid. It was a textbook example of how not to handle time travel.

Anyway, I'm voting for Doctor Who, but Bill & Ted and Quantum Leap are in my heart.

Also how not to handle a prop pistol. Although I think it was Voyagers.

As much as I love the Back to the Future Trilogy, for consistency, since I only saw the third one about 3 times and didn't care TOO much for it (don't like Westerns) compared to the 60 times I saw the other two movies, I'm gonna have to go with Quantum Leap. There was a show that was consistently great, and man, did that show have a lot of heart.
Not to mention Al, one of the greatest characters ever.

Terminator 1 and 2 were excellent. The third was only done for money,if you include it in the chronology..it messes up the ending that part 2 had.

I voted for Back To The Future.

What about "Butterfly Effect" , that's some crap time travel paradox , right ?

That's also the classic HG Wells "The Time machine".

Time Bandits

Somewhere in time

The Final Countdown (where a modern day aircraft carrier ended up in WWII just before Pearl Harbour)

The Philadelphia Experiment (like final countdown , the crew got transported in time)

Star Trek IV : The voyage home & Star Trek : First Contact

A Connecticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court

Army of Darkness when Ash went back to the middle ages

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Frequency (not truly time travel but still)

The Lake House (like frequency)

Kate and Leopold

Deja Vu

I like a lot of those movies.

But I think the topic was "Favorite Time Travel franchise."

I was tempted to go with Quantum Leap ("Oh boy"), but I'll go with Doctor Who. I liked the old series back, and I'm loving a lot of the new series.

I love anything dealing with Time Travel, but it all started with Back to the Future... even if III was pretty lame.

back to the future is the bestest. dr. who is great.

I think Life on Mars should get an honorable mention.

Seconded for the same reason.

How is 12 Monkeys a franchise? Is there another film/project I don't know about? Is Clooney going to make Monkeys 13?

Quantum Leap is my favorite, with Back to the Future (the first two, not a fan of the Western themed 3rd) as a close second.
