View Full Version : This is why Rosie O'Donnell is pure evil...

Not because she's a leftie, not because she dressed up her daughter as a terrorist, not because she's just generally insane and seemingly a very unstable human being.
No. She's evil because she wanted to change The Price is Right.

Why Rosie Wasn’t Right For 'Price' … And Who Is
At the GSN pool party, “The Price Is Right” announcer Rich Fields
confirmed Rosie O’Donnell didn’t get the “Right” hosting job because
she demanded radical changes to the show.
Media outlets first reported that O’Donnell and CBS couldn’t come to
terms partly because the former talk show host wanted to move the
veteran game show production from Los Angeles to New York City. Then
O’Donnell admitted in an interview this week that CBS didn’t want her
because she said she wanted to “gay up” the show with a chorus line of
male dancers replacing Barker’s Beauties.
But Fields claimed O’Donnell also wanted to reduce the number of
episodes shot per week down to four and spend more time chatting with
contestants instead of focusing on the games, which would have slowed
the pace of the show.
“CBS met with her for one lunch, she wanted to make all those changes,
and that was all they needed to hear,” he said.
Industry sources said “Entertainment Tonight” co-anchor Mark Steines,
reality host Mark Walberg, GSN game show host Todd Newton and actor
Drew Carey are still in the mix for the “Price” gig. CBS went after
Ryan Seacrest, sources said, but his price tag was too high. Carey is
also asking for a higher rate than CBS wants to pay at the moment, but
the network is still interested in him. Steines doesn’t have any game
show experience, but tested really well. A couple sources claim (and
others deny) that Steines was verbally offerred the gig before Rosie
unexpectedly threw her hat in the ring. At any rate, he’s still
considered a leading contender. Fields said George Hamilton also
tested for the job and was very personable and smooth, except he
relied too heavily on cue cards and couldn’t keep the games straight.
At any rate, the show needs to find a new host very soon. “Price”
usually ramps up production by mid-July for its fall season. The new
host needs to run through a couple weeks of practice shows to become
familiar with the 77 “Price” games before shooting the premiere, which
needs to be completed by mid-August. Staffers are being told to expect
to return to work by the end of the month, suggesting producers and
the network are near a decision. CBS declined to comment.

Wow, color me completely unsurprized. Rosie has always been two shades of nuts, and is really hung up on the whole "GAY! GAY! GAY! GAY!" thing. She just needs to stop talking. Period. Just. Stop. Talking.

She dressed up her kid as a terrorist? WTF!? Man, that's whacked.

Who cares about Rosie, but those changes to TPIR don't really sound all that radical. The move from LA to NYC was because Rosie didn't want to move her family to LA or work in LA without them. And focusing more of the contestants than the games has been THE major element in every single new game show since Millionare. As for "gaying up" the show, replacing the female models with male ones isn't such a big deal. It'll still be 11am on CBS, so it's not gonna go all To Wong Foo over by the Plinko board.
Of course, TPIR doesn't need changing. If anything, the show just needs to be cancelled since the show was Bob Barker and probably won't survive a season without him as host no matter the replacement.

So if all countries legalized rape, I guess we should get to the ravaging next, right?

Rosie O'Donald should no a Hannity like political show, I'd watch that just for laughs, place them next to each other and you've got 2 hours of solid entertainment on the night

Yeah, rape and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?. That's an apt comparison.
The only commonality is that they're both about as fun to watch...

Wasn't a comparison of hot items, but an example to illustrate a point. Current tradition doesn't mean everything should follow that path.

Yeah, but dropping rape into a game show discussion is like trying to swat flies with a wrecking ball.
Either way, the suggestion that a game show heading straight for ratings problems after losing its star try to counter that loss by emulating the glut of higher-rated shows in neither a new nor radical idea.
CBS should either cancel TPIR or just start re-airing the episodes from the beginning, as Bob Barker was the show.
More importantly, who really gives a crap?

There's no reason to believe that it would benefit from emulating other shows. If anything, it may lose its incredibly loyal base by changing so much. Of course, Bob's departure pretty much seals that.

Never said that it would. or even that I tought it was a good idea for that matter.
All I said was that the idea was neither new nor radical...
...and then it got all "rapey" up in here. WTF?

Question: is displaying beefcake on a show that, given the timeslot, I'm assuming is predominately watched by women, gaying it up? Wouldn't that technically be the other way around?

Dont think its a bit of a radical change to move a entire tv show from its usual spot to the other side of the country just because the host wants it that way? Thats like a secretary in idaho wanting the main offices of microsoft to move from washington to her so she only has a 20 minute commute. Radical? No. Arrogant? Oh yes.
Price is right doesnt focus on the contestants no more than jeporday. They get a contestant, they get introduced and say a little bit, then the show goes on. Part of the price is right is that alot of people get to be picked during the show to come up and get a chance to win from the audience, changing it so folks talk more takes away time from the actual game part of the term game show. Its game show, not talk show.
Having male models is one thing. But in the classic tradition women have always done modeling of most everything, especially game shows. But having men say do like the grills, boats or whatnot wouldnt be bad. But to actually gay the show up is just her feeding her huge, fat, obese ego. Price is right is a long running, fun, morally decent show that anyone can watch with nothing offensive in it. Doing that changes all that stuff for 90% of its viewing audience.
The show has been on 35 seasons doing about the same thing, why change it now?
Out of all of it the whole gay thing ticks me off the most, not that Im against gays but, why do people feel the need to inject their own personal choices into everything? It takes alot to piss me off but, people who are whatever that feel the need to make sure they tell everyone possible they are a certain way and force it into every aspect of their lives pisses me off. Ok so your black, gay, indian, a conservative or whatever thats fine but dont stick it in my face every chance you get for no reason at all. Just let the world be what it is.
But in the end they will find someone and it will be like family fued. They will find replacements and the show will stay on and do pretty well but it wont ever be like it used to be. A really really good game show is about 30% who hosts it. Would be like jeporday without alex trebek.

If they're dancing to Kylie Minogue it does.
One thing I hate about modern gameshows is the time they waste asking people stupid arbitrary questions. It's obvious filler and has never convinced me that the contestants are any more real than the bewildered college kids and slipper-wearing grannies who appear on Price is Right. I don't need to hear a five minute story explaining how you know the answer to the question or a vocal play-by-play of your decision process (both of which were obviously coached 5 minutes before going on-air). Just answer the question, goddammit. I also could do without the stupid misdirection ("Is that your final answer? Are you sure? That's too bad...because you didn't just not say the answer that is not incorrect!") and added "suspense" of impromptu commercial breaks.

Rape for President Taft. He probably never got any.

I'm surprised Rosie would want to eliminate Barker's Beauties. How could she pass up her chance to carry on Bob Barker's proud tradition of sexually harassing them? She could hold "auditions" for new ones every week. I'm sure she'd like that. She could rename them "Rosie's Rosebuds."
George Hamilton would be great. Old school Hollywood, suave, good looking older guy, constant California tan, makes fun of himself, sounds like a Bob Barker clone anyways, or was Bob a clone of George Hamilton?

Wait, Rosie's gay?
That made me laugh. Mainly because it reminded me of high school and a bi friend who was big into gay rights. He also went around telling us how many people were latently homosexual or covering it up. I think he claimed most of his friends, including myself, were actually gay.
And then Rosie came out and he said that. Though he actually did seem surprised by it. That amazed me because even I had suspected it.
Anyway, the GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY part isn't as bad as the whole need for change. I really don't see why not add guys in addition to the girls on the show, especially if they get a female host. I thought the audience was a bit more older females anyway. I know my grandmother loved the show. Though to replace them with only guys is over the top.

Turns out Drew Carey is going to be the new host. I think he is a good choice. Not everyone is going to be happy and he certainly isn't Bob Barker, but I think he'll do a good job.
