I think the superhero film, as intended, would definately work as a trilogy. Here's my idea:

Iron Man
For the first film, go through Tony's story, only now in either Iraq or Afganistan. Have Justin Hammer replaced by Mandarin, who is trying to thwart Stark Enterprise's expedition for the Case of The Gods, which is believed to hold weapons of power. Tony breaks free of his captors in Suit 1, only to get his butt kicked by Mandarin who has obtained all of the rings from the Case. So Tony prepares his next suit in order to save Washington DC from Mandarin's control.
Have Mandarin wear a "Chinese Warlord" type of suit with a cape on it.
Have the final suit only at the end of the film, opening a whole new story.
Have Tony Stark drinking alot, but don't focus too much on it.
Mandarin is only beaten and the rings are taken away, allowing us to return to his character in a later film.

Iron Man: Sweat & Metal(aka Iron Man 2)
We go deep into Tony's alcohol issues in this movie. Even a scene in which Tony argues with the suit about his problem. Tony decides to stop being Iron Man in fear of responsability, and gives the job to James Rhoads, who Tony met in the first movie. Rhoads becomes War Machine, but is very unexperienced with the armor. We then see Titanium Man, a Russian terrorist who plans to steal Stark's inventions to upgrade his suit. Worrying for his friend, Tony battles his alcoholism and joins War Machine as Iron Man to defeat a super powered Titanium Man.
Titanium Man dies by a defect in the suit, causing it to fail on him while he is 4,000 feet in the air.

Iron Man: Day Of Darkness(aka Iron Man 3)
Landing on earth by accident in ancient Japan(seen in a flash back), Fin Fang Foom has has been sleeping for a thousand years. Now, him and his Dragon Men have returned from their slumber to take over the earth. Foom defeats Iron Man with no problem, causing the mask to fall off infront of his staff. Loyal, the staff help him with a new suit while War Machine 2.0(once again run by Rhoads) fights off the monsters.
We also see Mandarin return, who uses this oppertunity to get his rings back. However, he states that this is his planet to rule, and battles Fin Fang Foom while searching for Iron Man for revenge.
Tony releases the Iron Army, all sorts of Iron Man suits in one group, in a desperate stuggle to win back earth to join the party.
The movie ends with Fin Fang Foom falling deep into a volcanoe with Mandarin, and Tony asking Pepper Potts to marry him and her saying yes.

Iron Man: Sweat & Metal

This title sounds like the adventure when Tony tries to bang Pepper with most of his suit still on.

616 Ironman sucks so much they turned him into a villain, and now he sucks at that. They should have taken the secretary of defense thing to its extreme and had him be president, I'd read that book, kinda like west wing.

Ultimate Ironman trilogy:

1- Start with an expedition with his friends to show his wild side, this can tie into a villains origin later. Tony goes to DC where Nick Fury approaches him about his prototype warrior suit, but Tony refuses to work with Nick after their relationship under Gen. Ross (tie in a bit of UU). Build up some of Tony's employees/friends and his party attitude, have him go on a few dates and try out the suit. Nick thinks Tony is selling his gear to the Chinese and has the new director of SHIELD cannot allow that to happen, so he sends agents and tries to kidnap Tony, who manages to get away. Since he's a fugitive he has to break into his own building to steal his own suit to stop Nick from getting it, and with the help of friends he manages to get it, cue big chase scene, and he manages to sneak out of the country. When he gets to south east asia he does some random stuff to further the plot and show his friendship with his comrades. When he tries contacting an arms dealer to sell some random stuff so he can get money to continue living off the radar he is forced to deal with the Chinese (this can come back to haunt him in later movies) and he is betrayed and taken in by them. The he finds out one his his associates was selling technology to the Chinese so they could build there own version of the warrior suit, AKA Crimson Dynamo, and they torture tony trying to figure out how to open the warrior suit to fill the blanks in the final pieces of their suit. Anyway, Nick is such a badass he managed to trace the arms dealers back to the Chinese military and find tony, cue attacks on the base. Then we get Tony as an unexperienced scientist flying a prototype Ironman Vs a 95% finished Crimson Dynamo with an experiences pilot. We get a spy/thriller movie al la Mission Impossible, with superhero overtones, like how Blade was basically a Horror/action movie with superhero overtones.

2- Basically the ultimates start gaining headlines and this is super-hero's Vs public and Washington. Kind of X-men/West wing. basic

3- Ironman Vs the Ultimates as his alcoholism leads to people distrusting him and his extreme behavior forces him out of his own company. At the same time, tony is trying to get a support amongst congress for a move to halt this neo-arms race that has come from his technology.

Never read it, or heard of it.

What do people think of my ideas, not including random comments?
