This is the latest Roland Emmerich (ID4, Stargate) film:

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809724938/video/3317950/standardformat

Starring Cliff Curtis, Camilla Belle (This is her second film with prehistoric monsters, she was in TLW:JP) Steven Straight, and Omar Sharif(!). Of course, if the movie does take place when the title says it does, stuff like the temple, pyramids and the boats is a little too advanced for this time period, I think. But then again this is a Roland Emmerich film, and scientific accuracy was never his specialty.

looks like Stargate BC. Not much appealed by the scenario

But the entire lack of big boobs leaves me cold.

Historically inaccurate, but I'll see it.

But the entire lack of big boobs leaves me cold.Yeah, who would, er, fill Racquel's role today? Maybe Salma Hayek. That, I'd pay to see.

It should be good fun.

Complete fantasy mind you, but still fun.

How so?

Anyway, looks like mindless fun, it'll probably be better than this Cloverfield unless that is Half-Life the movie as I'm hoping.

Where are the dinosaurs?

I see a sabertooth, mastodon, and some badass giant ostrich thing which cant be a dodo because dodos were dumb apparently. Looks pretty within the bounds reality too me, hell I'd say the most controversial thing there is the mastodon in the desert which I can suspend my disbelief to if its a cool action movie.

I could swear I saw a raptor in the chase scene, but I may be wrong

*rewatchs the trailer*

yes, it's a bird. But: ships, gold top pyramids, mammoths in the desert, large buildings

Considering that there are pyramids in Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa I don't think its hard to imagine the ancient world having ships, the gold pyramid is a bit OTT but it's Hollywood, and yeah the mammoths do seem a bit out of place, but remember before the last Ice age which was roughly 10,000 years ago, Africa was a lush jungle/forest. I'd say the mammoths are the most historically inaccurate thing there which hardly destroys the movies credibility. I mean, this is the guy who had aliens invade earth and get defeated by a drunk in an F16.

yes, but the architecture is Egyptian, they're not ziggurats. Ships built that way didnt exist at that time

but I agree with you, we're just killing time here. I'm the last one when it comes to hating Emmerich's work because of technological/ hystorical or whatever flaws.

It could well be the kush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kush) but again suspention of disbelief is the key word here.

Where are the dinosaurs?

There's a quick scene of a dinosaur attacking the mammoth hunter in the jungle.

If you mean the scene at 42 seconds, thats an ostrichesque creature

This really goes to show that people want to see only what they want to see if they already made up their minds.

"That sounds dumb, I bet there's dinosaurs in there. See? Look at that. They're all over the trailer. Every scene has a dinosaur in it, that movie's gonna bomb.

What's that? No dinosaurs? Whatever. I hate movies."

I think it looks like a very entertaining movie. Historically accurate or not, most historical epics are anything but historically accurate, but that doesn't make them bad movies themselves.

No, no it doesn't. You're incredibly wrong there.
It looks like a dinosaur. I froze the image, and it looks dinosaur-ish. Doesn't mean it is, but it's an honest mistake.
And either way, I never said I didn't want to see it. As a matter of fact, I said that I wanted to see it.

My bad, didn't mean to center you out (though you were the last person to mention a dinosaur), I was just generalizing a lot of what I've been reading on this board and others. Not only with this movie, but historical movies in general. :)

whats so wrong about it ? And anyway Emmerich's movies are not meant to be history or science lessons, we all know this

I can't help but be excited for this film....I love reading about ancient civilizations...well, I love reading about 'lost' civilizations. Stuff like Graham Hancock's 'Fingerprints of the Gods' where he compiles evidence of a highly advanced civilization that was wiped out by a massive cataclysm.

Anyhow, this really resonates with that kinda vibe, but on steroids.

It sort of looks like Apocalypto with giant animals.

Looks like a very interesting movie. As for the historical aspect scientists have found many interesting facts across the world that shows that there were advanced civilizations on that period and even older than that so Roland might be right in some ways.

He might not necessarily be 'right', but it's cool to explore those possibilities. I mean, why not? As long as it doesn't go extremely too far over the top with Dragons and overt use of magic, I can suspend my disbelief long enough to enjoy something like this. Besides, I LOVED Apocolypto....I would really love seeing more movies like that. Almost like History channel with a huge budget!
