The Amazons "retreat" where we currently find Holly and Harley?

It's not Amazons.

I just got this feeling (Harley's comment about Athena "seeing something special" in her) that all is not what it seems.

And it set off bells in my head, and for some reason this image popped into my head:

Darkseid possessing the Anti-Life Equation.

(From one of Starlin's recent preview pages on his site, which showed Darkseid suddenly in possession of it.)

So I'm calling it: this ain't a retreat run by Amazons.

It's a retreat run by Granny Goodness to harvest humans who may possess the Anti-Life Equation.

Not the first time Darkseid has tried to collect the ALE from humans.
(Probably the last though, since the upcoming series is called DEATH OF THE NEW GODS after all)

I'm probably completely wrong, but given all the New Gods ties in COUNTDOWN so far, and more to come I'm sure, my paranoia is warranted and justified. :p

Are you saying that the Amazons have been duped by Granny Goodness? Or are these "Amazons" actually a bunch of Female Furies in disguise?

Obviously "Athena" is not Athena. That's a given.

As to WHO Athena actually is... your guess seems to be a pretty good one.

More the latter; using the current Amazon Attacks war (and whatever sympathies there may be for their cause) as a cover for more of Darkseid's shenanigans.

Don't be silly the JLA are all Skrulls. This way we can have a JLA/Avengers Summer Spectacular with Skrulls being in the equation and not even being from Marvel.

Why exactly is seeing Holly and Harley turn into Amazons supposed to be interesting? I am just not seeing it at all.

If the theory is correct, then we're going to be waiting a long time for the reveal. Today's solicits say that the October issues will show Holly and Harley in training on the Amazons' island. That's one more thing to convince me that Countdown readers can expect that "what you see is what you get." Everybody is exactly who they appear to be, inconsistencies be damned. It is Athena, not Granny in disguise. At least that's my bet. I'd love to be surprised by a big twist, but I'm not counting on it.

Oh wowwowowowowow. Just flipped to the end of AMAZONS ATTACK! #6 and:

...Granny Goodness was somehow behind the whole thing!!!

I lack details (only got to flip thru before I had to get back to work) so I'm not sure if my original premise sticks. But the presence was there! :eek

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. I pegged Athena as Granny Goodness like six weeks ago. About the point that they were recruiting in Suicide Slum, right after Sleez's death, and Athena's hardly acted like a goddess of wisdom. That and... why don't any of the Amazons in Washington know about this place? Your FREAKIN' GODDESS is in Metropolis, and not on the frontlines with you. Circe's enchantments or not, the lack of Amazon crossover is mighty suspicious.

Weren't these COUNTDOWN issues supposed to be simultaneous with the other books released during the week?

In theory, this issue of COUNTDOWN should include the events during the time of the AA finale/aftermath (since AA #6 and WW both shipped this week).

Not necessarily. There have been many instances where this has definitely not been the case. Such a task would be almost impossible.

I think it's amazing that some of you guys predicted this. At a recent con, Wil Pfeifer said he didn't think anyone would guess the ending of AA. Well, very few of us did. Congrats to those of you who were smarter than the rest of us.

I haven't been following the Amazons Attack story so forgive me if this is a silly question but is the (admittedly rather slow and dull) Holly Robinson/Harley Quinn storyline in Countdown something that happens around the same time of/during AA? Is it actually important or relevant to AA in some way? Regardless of what could be a connection I just assumed it was unrelated ultimately. How does it tie in? Other than Athena being Granny Goodness.

This spells the end of the Holly/Harvey plot then surely?
