I liked the opening, but I'm just hoping they can rebound from the terrible Iron Man film and the mediocre second Avengers film.

I don't know if this was asked but was there ever a Dr. Strange Cartoon Series? I was thinking if the Dr. Strange Cartoon Movie was any good and sold well maybe they can turn it into a Cartoon Series?

For kids? It'd suck and there'd be the same lame monster every episode that didn't feature 'Teen Starnge' beating 'the man' in the form of an older but bumbling Dormammu.

I respectfully disagree. There's little to nothing in the original Lee/Ditko run that was too adult for a kid's cartoon. Yeah, in the wrong hands, you'd get "Kid Strange" if they use the license to try and rip the Potter series. But in the hands of a Dini-and-Timm-level creative team, I could see this doing quite well.

As much as I love Dormammu, I'd hope that they didn't fall into the pitfall of making him the overarching villain, and trying to tie every other heavy into him and the dark dimension. If they mix it up, rotate their crops so that no particular bad guy becomes trite, develop a good supporting cast... yeah, I could see this working.

I've seen the commercial a couple of times over the last few days. It seems odd that the commercial never mentions a release date.

I just watched this and not only is it by far the best animated Marvel, it is better than most of the live action Marvel movies.

I highly recommend this to everyone whether you are a big Strange fan or not(i'm not).

Three and a half STARS!

I watched it the other day and it wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be.Of course I was on the computer while I was watching it so my attention was split between the two.I'll give it another look another time.

It was as good as could be expected. The Marvel animated movies have all shown a staggering lack of imagination, so when you go into it expecting that, it just becomes a matter of whether it's particularly bad or not. And this was not.

Though I must agree with a criticism I read on Comics Should Be Good: the worst possible Dr. Strange story to tell is his origin. Strange's whole appeal is being the cool, knowledgeable, number #1 badass. And we only get about 10 minutes of that at the end, and have to spend 73 minutes sitting through all the rookie "chosen one" crap.

I like it. Like someone else said, its the best animated movie that Marvel did. And I just loved it when Strange was kicking Mordo's ass at the end.

Agreed on all counts. Not bad but not great. I found the backstory to be cumbersome and ultimately unnecessary. Stephen was a jerk because he was a gifted neurosurgeon who cared more about money and fame than people-- its not a huge stretch to get that point-of-view, and we didn't need the sister angle to understand why he was the way he was.

Too much martial artistry was involved for my taste: I think you can make his magic interesting and avoid do anything abilities without "grounding" it in staff fighting and sword summoning. Still, I liked it better than the Iron Man animated which just bored me-- this one at least held my attention, and the little nods throughout were fun-- Donald Blake being paged being the best one.

This movie was good surprisingly but it could have been longer and I was expecting a little more action but then again the animated marvel films probably won't get better than this.

Got it today, not good. Marvel has control of these dvds and still they're messing them up. The change to Dr.Strange's costume was a dumb move, his original cotume is so much cooler. They said on the making of that they wanted to do something different, how 'bout they just stick to what makes these characters cool, leave them alone, if it aint' broke don't fix it.

I am so tired of changes to everything, people have loved these Heroes for decades for what they are, I wanna' see that brought to life, not what someone else has to say about it.

I read a comic and hear they're making a movie and I go, cool I get to see this leap off the page, then when I get the dvd or go to the theater it's not what I have loved and wanted to see brought off the page, if I want to see something different I'll go see something different, but if I want to watch a Marvel Hero then, that's what I want to see.

Just do what is in the comics and that is that. Marvel just hasn't been right for years, the books and movies, Spidey's been the only good Film franchise, FF 2 was an improvement, even though some of the casting is wrong.

Not everything from the comic page can be put onto a movie though which is where the change comes in. Even the Spider-Man movies weren't 100% or even 80% true to the comic.

This seemed more like the Strange mini series from a few years ago.

Just watched it. It was watchable. The costume change is a minor point, not worth worrying about. The death of The Ancient One bites. I laughed in the hospital scene when Doctor Donald Blake (The Mighty Thor) was paged. You had to be listening to hear it. lol. The good news is that the Origin is kept essentially as it is in the comic. Dormammu was ok even if they changed his apperance. I liked Mordo. All in all a watchable movie. 3 stars out of 5.

It was okay. Storywise, I have to agree with previous criticisms that it took to long to really establish Strange as the hero and really put him center stage. Way too heavy on the front end. The good thing was that, visually, it was a big improvement over the previous films. The visuals, while still flawed, had much more style and atmosphere about them.

The thing that most confused/concerned me, however, is why the first coming attractions preview on the DVD was for some godawful lowbrow comedy called Delta Farce?

Somehow, the mystic battles of Spiderman TAS : Doctor Strange was so much better than the battles done in this DVD movie. Sure, those corny "summoning" lines were cheesy, but the way Strange delivered em it seemed like he really meant it. There were phasing abilities, teleporting abilities, rings of protection, portal unlocking spells, stone-forming, and your classic mystic bolt attacks.

The movie featured VERY little magic-battling and the ending was rather dull. Sure he makes like superman and storm in the movie (you'll see what i mean) but he did not feel very "mystical" and definately did not show fancy sorcery.

The entire (un-named) followers of the Ancient one had pretty interesting abilities, but Stephen himself doesn't seem to showcase anything new. There was a lot of enchanting mystical weapons and then using them to chop up monsters, but that gets dull after a while.

There was a quite an emphasis on swordsmanship (nearly as much as magic)<--

My favourite scenes of the movie was definately the trials overcome by stephen as he goes from arrogant and desperate car-accident victim to being reluctent hero.

I have liked the good Doctor since the 80s (if not the 70s) and enjoyed what was done. This was far better than Iron Man. The suit change was not that big a deal for me. It's been changed in the comic numerous times. And this is closer to the original than many I have seen in the comics.

This movie showed there is a reason he is the Sorcerer Supreme. There are numerous sorcerors in the movie, so you see what he's compared to with that title. Also, if you noticed, all the characters had a power which dealt with one medium. Wongs powers were of the sand, Mordo was of metal (and hence all the bladed weapons), another was I believe the crimson bands of Cytorrak, and so on. Strange can manipulate and use all of the magical sources. (Listen to the making of).

I do want to see a sequel so we can see him use all the force shields, the magical phrases, and enter the crazy magical dimensions. I like that Marvel is not using manga character voices and character designs. It seems more grown up.

I loved it, just need a sequel to see more.
