View Full Version : Would appreciate Good Thoughts/Prayers for Son-in-Law

Our son-in-law Charlie just went through his bone-marrow transplant this past Friday. So far he's not showing any signs of rejection, which is good. He'll be in the hospital for at least 3 more weeks, because his donor was an umbilical cord, and the stems cells from that take a bit longer to grow and begin producing red blood cells---he's got 5 different lines running into him: 3 in his neck, and 2 through his port. He's getting fresh blood every day or so, along with the anti-rejection drugs, antibiotics, etc.
His leukemia had come back 3 times before they were finally able to get it halted enough to do the marrow transplant---and every time it comes back, your chances for survival go down. He and Megan just got married May 20th, and she's staying at the hospital with him for the duration.
Charlie's a wonderful person, and we're hoping to have him around for a long time... any thoughts, wishes, prayers, and/or energy toward the operation being a good success are much appreciated.
Thanks, guys.
EDIT: BTW, Meg's 21 and Charlie's 27. This is his second go-round in life with a tough disease: when he was a kid, he had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, just like our daughter Rin did.

And I will send bad energy which will make him go Grrrr and fight harder.
Ok, that is just silliness in a sad attempt to get you to smile.
Really hoping the transplant takes and he gets better very soon.

I'm sending good vibes your family's direction.
I have actually been thinking about getting on the registry for bone marrow donation. I have a very rare blood type, and there might be somebody out there that I can help who may not have as many options because they have a rare blood type too. This has just lit a fire under my butt, to do it.

Thank you to everyone, and especially Dark Galaxy---that will definitely cheer him up when I tell him: he's a strong advocate for blood donors and for marrow donors.
