Just a couple quick hits Augie:
I love the Ultimate Universe. I think it's a great approach to the characters and a brilliant idea for a line of comics. ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is in the top tier of comics that I read right now, always right at the top of the reading pile
I was originally dead set against the idea of the Ultimate Universe. As you stated in this week's column regarding Image, I think I was just the cranky old reader at the time. I mean, how dare Marvel re-create the stories I grew up with for a younger generation (punk kids!). Well, my 12-yr-old nephew absolutely loves Ultimate Spider-Man. We call it "his" Spider-Man and Uncle John has "his" Spider-Man. I can now say Marvel made the right move. My nephew was able to get in on the ground floor of a Spider-Man universe without breaking the bank and TPBs have made it great since he does not have a LCS. We talk about the differences between the Ult Green Goblin and the MU Green Goblin, etc. Very cool to see him excited about comics!
I also picked up the George Khoury Image book this week at my LCS. I liked some of the original artwork and promo pieces. Glanced at some quotes, etc. I am looking forward to reading this as well. I definitely fell into the glitz of Image's initial publishings even with some of the story deficiences, so I am interested in looking back at that period in comics history hopefully with a neutral eye.
