I'm thinking that maybe we could all meet up on thursday around 7 pm and have dinner before the superman/doomsday premire?

I'm also open to 12:45pm to 2:15
on friday

I doubt we can get any kind of a group into and out of a restaurant in time to get back for the screening at 8:30. Assume 10 minutes to walk to and from a restaurant that can accommodate us (are we making a reservation?), and assume we can get seats at the screening if we come in 10 minutes before it starts; that leaves an hour to be seated, order, get served, and eat. For a group of more than six people, that will be impossible.

Besides which, with that kind of breakneck schedule, who has time for nonsense, wisecracks, filthy stories about Mark Waid, talk about lebians, and demanding an explanation for the front pocket wallet thing?

Not Thursday evening for me. Someone around here mentioned throwing some sort of special shindig on Thursday evening (though he hasn't followed up with info since asking).

Friday at the time suggested.... no. There's a slew of panels at noon on Friday, and I'm going to have to make choices. But either way, I'll be upstairs in the Convention Center.

Your suggested Sunday time is workable for me. Nothing pressing to attend there, so that day's schedule is more go-with-the-flow for me.

By the way... there IS a late night repeat of the Superman/Doomsday (10 something).

Alex L

I'm figuring there's going to be a line for the Superman/Doomsday panel.

I'm good...uh, *checks schedule* Friday night after the Kevin Smith panel (ends at 7:45) or I can skip that and I'd be free after the Scott McCloud panel (ends at 6:30).

Anytime Sunday after 2, up to and/or a post-Con dinner?

Arawn

What about a pre-preview night lunch... That or a sunday breakfast. I have to fly out sunday though so I might not even make that...I have to be back sunday night for medical stuffs on monday.

Pre-preview night dinner? You mean, something before the Hall opens at 5 on Wednesday? I could do that!

Arawn

Yea, if people are available, could do a early afternoon lunch. People would still get the lunch prices plus they wouldn't need to worry about missing any pannels or such at the con.

the hotel next door to the convetion center has a nice pub/resturant we could use. We could pick up some take out burgers or something and eat as a group at superman/doomsday room?

MacQuarrie

I thought the Friday morning YABS breakfast was successful. Given that Gail isn't scheduled for any panels on Friday, that might be the most convenient time/day.

Seriously, trying to cram a group dinner into that 90 minute slot you're lobbying for is just not going to work. How many people are you expecting? What makes you think the pub at the hotel will be able to prepare meals for them all in the time allowed?

Also, I don't know if it's happening this year, but for the last seven years or so, there has been a CBR party at the beach on Thursday night. Any YABSers who also frequent the Community board are likely to head up there instead of going to the Superman/Doomsday screening. There are a number of other parties and meet-ups scheduled for that same night as well.

Good luck making it happen, but I don't see how.

i didn't realize that the preview started so late. It would probably be best to meet either for a breakfast or for a dinner before preview night. I remember when preview day started at 3:30 pm. And what you don't know about my horribly unrealistic schedualing skills.

If we picked someplace semi close and started at say 2-230 wed we'd have a good 2 hours to meet eat and chat before even needing to worry about heading over to the con. IIf we did a breakfast that'd probably be a 7am meet due to needing to get in line by 9am if you want to get to any 1030 pannels.

I'll show up whenever, I'm just trying to think of what would inconvience the fewest people.

Like I've been saying, the Tin Fish is right across the street, has plenty of outdoor seating, and they make a great clam chowder (which you need to get early in the con, because by Sunday, they're out!). I've been planning to plant myself there before the Hall opens Wednesday, probably after getting through registration as soon as that starts. (But, I'm doing Pro registration, so it'll probably be a lot shorter duration than the regular registration.)

I don't want to ruin anyone's plans, so please don't change it for me, but I just looked at my arrival time and I think the earliest I could make it to the thing is like at 3:00 pm. I arrive at SD airport around two, so I wouldn't be there when you start.

I see no problem with 3pm. I wasn't even originally planning on getting there until 5.

EDIT: However, there may be a problem. It says on the website that the restaurant is only open from 11am to 3pm Monday-Thursday.

Buuuuut, it also says: Hours subject to change, depending on Convention Center & PETCO Park activities. There are no games at Petco that week, but there is that little ol' Comic Con. I can call and ask if anyone wants.

I'm guessing that Preview Night of ComicCon is one of those occasions when the Tin Fish will stay open later than 3. (Heh. Actually... could all them and find out. Duh. I'll try that tomorrow.)

I don't think they pack up the outside chairs in the evening, so even if they're no longer serving food, it's still a pretty good easy-to-find location to meet.

Does it have to be either/or? It'd be kind of fun to have both.

When it comes to breakfast, I'd want to know where and when. Since I'm planning on parking at the Convention Center early, I wouldn't want to go far on foot for breakfast. 'Cause I'm lazy.... I mean, I'd be saving my energy for tromping the Convention Center. ;)

MacQuarrie

What she said. It can be both. I assume we're all; going to follow the "3-5-1" rule (three meals, at least five hours of sleep, and one shower every day), so we'll need to eat anyway.

Put me down for Wednesday lunch and also for breakfast whenever/wherever it happens. Last year, the YABS breakfast was on Friday at Denny's (a couple miles north of the con, very accessible), but I can do Saturday if that's better for everyone. Gail has no panels listed on Friday, but that's subject to change.

So is it Saturday then?

Which Denny's was it? The one out by the airport?

You know, if it was closer to downtown and wasn't crowded in the morning, I'd definitely pitch The Hash House A Go Go. Loved going there for brunch when I used to live in San Diego.

So....!

So far we have:

-- breakfast at Denny's (on Pacific Highway, near Airport) on Friday morning. But do we have a time for that? I need to plan my movements! ;) (I won't bore you all with my manouverings, but I do have to plan the campaign -- because parking during ComicCon is a BATTLE! ;)

But BREAKFAST! WHAT TIME???

Edit to add:

The County Center/Little Italy stop is on California between Beech and Cedar. You'll need to walk north about four blocks to Hawthorn, then turn west. Denny's is on Hawthorn between California and Pacific.

From the Convention Center you have to take the Orange Line to connect to the Blue Line at America Plaza (on C Street between Kettner & India), or you can get on the Blue Line at the 12th & Imperial Station (other side of Petco Park) and take it the whole way.

My hotel is up on Ash Street at India, so I only need to walk about 7 blocks to get to the Denny's. See you there.

EDIT: Here's the San Diego Transit regional map for the downtown area: http://www.sdcommute.com/Rider_Information/Regional_Transit_Maps/documents/central.downtown.pdf

Heh. But do you use public transportation all that much? ;)

Visitors tend to check out the information on public transportation (whether they use it or not). I was looking at all that info myself a few days ago -- trying to strategize my movements. The object being to have my car in the most convenient place at the end of the day of trudging around the show. :)

I've been using the trolley service the last 4-5 years to get to the con every year. But Mac knows where Chula Vista is. My sister lives there and I still don't know where it is.

Get on the Orange Line South. Get off at E Street. You're there. Chula Vista is on the coast about halfway between downtown San Diego and the Mexico border.

I lived in San Marcos (North County, due east of Carlsbad) for about a year, and my brother-in-law has lived all over the county for the last 20 years, so I have a pretty good idea where most things are down there.

We've settled everything.

Friday:
Breakfast at Denny's (on Pacific Highway at Hawthorn) 8:00 AM Friday morning.

Any questions?

You just need a catchier slogan like, " San Diego... Now With MORE Rabies ! "

Just because a rifle has a bayonet, does not mean it counts as a knife.

Australian bayonets count as both knives and sabres.
