surprised no one is talking about this, but i finally saw it (but i read the short story afterwards though).anyways the film starts off intriguing but then once enslin goes into the room the film falls apart........now heres where i prefer the short story.the story from the book describes the room's evilness and powers in more disturbing details as oppose to the movie's (maybe because its rated PG-13? ).but for whatever reason the movie failed in that regard.where as the book's depiction was bone chilling.while not a bad movie it never fully moved me.but hey its better than dreamcatcher huh? :p

Bah, this was a terrible movie.
You're correct about it starting out ok, but quickly goes down hill.

Starts out alright, but it, ahdunno, kinda sputters out towards the end.
When they played it real subtle like, it was good. But then they go into overkill with the old-footage ghosts, and the paintings and "You are here" map, among other things, struck me as cheesy. Ending sucked too.

i thought it was just ok,i never read the short story so i can't judge it as far as faithfulness (though now i'm intrigued to read it).but as far as the movie goes...meh.

It was OK. Mom and I understood the symbolism.
The ending could have been better.

Kings short stories are really the only work of his that I like. WEll, The Shining is good... but I don't like the end much.

Saw it last night. A few good scares, but not enough to make it a date movie must or anything. The ending was weak, and at some point there should have been some kind of exposition about the room (even speculative) beyond just "it's evil."

His novels spell it out too much, and I never like what he spells out. The shorts just jump into something, and usually leave it pretty open.

It didn't explain why anything happened or how it did. I assume Olin (Samuel L. Jackson) was behind it somehow with the spy camera and how he said, "Good job" when Enslin escaped.
I was actually pretty confused throughout the whole thing and wondering if it he was delusional or it was real. I guess that's what they wanted to happen but I just don't like it.
P.S. I think Samuel Jackson should have gone into the room. "GET THESE MUTHA-F***IN GHOSTS OUTTA MY MUTHA-F***IN HOTEL!"
