I was wondering and thought it would be worthwhile to start a thread wherein you state who your favourite actor of the moment is ( as it will change so often ) and why you are loving their work.....basically a love fest, happy good times.
To kick of my favourite actor of the past ten minutes is Charlie Chaplin, having just finished watching "The Circus" I am constantly amazed how well his slapstick still holds up, far more embarassingly he still moves me to ( almost ) tears with his poor loveable sap routine.
Try keeping your stuff together watching the kid get taken away in "the kid" or the blind girl finally seeing him in "city lights".
Buster Keaton was probably a better comedian, but Chaplin has a quality that really gets to you.
Variety is the spice of life though and I am sure after the next cool movie I see I will have a new favourite Actor/Actress of the moment.
Who is yours ?

William Holden. Ever since I rewatched The Wild Bunch a couple of times recently, he's been someone I've been trying to watch more of. In The Wild Bunch, he has one of the best lines in cinema history: "If they move, kill 'em." But I also like the part during the last stand when a woman shoots him and he says, "You bitch," and shoots her in the gut.

I've just watched a episode of a TV serie about Nero Wolfe; it's Italian and subtitled. The actor playing Wolfe was TERRIFIC; looking, talking and breathing 100% like Stout's Wolfe
the story was pretty faithful to the book it's based on and generally it was a awesome show. Since I love Nerro Wolfe so much I have to say= the Italian actor playing him (dont know the name) is my favourite actor of the moment

Was it Maury Chaykin, from the Wolfe series that ran on A&E? I agree; he's a great actor. He's currently one of the few bright spots on Entourage this season.
I ended up watching London a few nights ago. It was okay, but I was mostly impressed with Jason Statham in a rare non-action or crime movie role. And he had hair, too. I already liked him from stuff like the Guy Ritchie movies and Crank, so it was cool to see him in a performance that's outside of his usual two film genres. He'd be my favorite actor of the moment; and as for actress, well, London only served to exacerbate my infatuation with Jessica Biel. :p

David Strathairn - He's always been a strong supporting actor, and was perfectly cast as Edward R Murrow in "Good Night and Good Luck". I'm looking forward to seeing him as the antagonist in "The Bourne Ultimatum".

Strathairn was also great in L.A. Confidential and The River Wild.

William Holden is amazing in almost every movie. The Wild Bunch has a special place in my filming viewing heart as it is one of the movies I always enjoy watching with my father.
Stalag 17 is also amazing with Holden leading the cast of standout performers.

My favourite actor today is Ron Perlman.
After just watching an episode of Beauty and the Beast on dvd ( available now ) I am always impressed by the mans understated versatility, this is an actor who I have seen play and amazing array of roles, a character actor if ever there was one, if it is a poetically tragic Beast, a rough and tumble demon, a redneck religious fundamentalist, or a comedic player Ron can do the job.
I eagerly await Hellboy 2 so I can see him on the big screen again.
I hope one day the stars come together just right and he gets to appear in the classic role for the ages that I believe someone of his talents capable of, his "Casablanca" if you will.

I love Maury Chaykin and his Nero is truly terrific (I so hoped the serie could go on), but this was a Italian TV show in black and white..so no it wasn't him
I managed to find a photo of Tino Buazzelli (thats his name) as Wolfe

Currently Morgan Freeman. I just rewatched Shawshank and Lucky Number Slevin, and found myself "rewinding" to savor certain scenes twice, particularly the chemistry between Freeman and Kingsley.
Of this moment - of contemporary actor/esses, probably Ian tracey and Venus Terzo, two Canadian tv performers. Although I haven't seen Terzo in anythng since Da Vinci's Inquest/City Hall was cancelled a year or two back. Tracey's one of the leads in my favourite show last year, 'Intelligence', which I was relieved to see will be coming back next year. LAst season ended on one of the most nerve-shredding cliff-hangers I've ever seen - not because the plot development was difficult to predict, but because the characters were so convincingly played that you were completely drawn into their predicament.

I love Ron Pearlman as well. He's the only reason I made it through Alien Resurrection, and he played a similar cool role in Blade 2.
Make sure to check out a smaller role from him in The Last Supper, which is a pretty enjoyable satire.

Heh, I read your first post again and the "Italian and subtitled" part should have tipped me off that you weren't referring to the show Chaykin was in. I must have glossed over that detail initially.

Perlman was also excellent in Guillermo del Toro's Cronos and was the lone bright spot of del Toro's adaptation of Mike Mignola's Hellboy.
I, too, love The Last Supper; haven't heard anyone reference that movie in years. A very underrated black comedy/satire with some great performances, particularly Perlman's hilarious send-up of Rush Limbaugh and Bill Paxton as the loathsome Zach Cody.

My favorite actor has always been Jason Priestly, ever since I first saw him on 90210. I'm glad to see that he'll be coming back to TV in 'Side Order of Life' on the lifetime channel. I'm looking forward to checking that out :)
