Issue 833 was such a surprise that I tought for sure 834 was going to be a let down, but it wasn't. Without spoiling it, I liked it after the second read and if yo read 833 you have to buy this, it has a good way to close the Batman and Zatana thin, at least in my opinion.

My synopsis, while the art wasn't bad in the comic, it doesn't wow me either. It gets the job done, He uses way too much ink in the faces, and most of the time it just ages them. Wasn't too fond of the cover either, which is odd because I like most of the stuff this guy does. Anyways I loved the story. I have really been enjoying Dini.

The Shower Scene was bad ass btw

I read that spoiler before reading the issue and was misled - I thought you meant Zatanna or something :)

But anyway...

Picked this up today. It's a good issue overall, nicely ties up the Batman/Zatanna antagonism regarting the mindwipe stuff. The Joker being locked back up again (presumably) at the end confuses me with what has happened in Morrison's story as well as Countdown but I'm just going to overlook this now (not that I should have to really; if DC are bringing out a weekly and crossover comics in the hope of making the DCU more cohesive they should really be getting stuff like this right).

The only real criticism I have (other than the above) is the art. I've grown used to Kramer's art and don't mind some it of but the action panels just aren't dynamic at all - the page where Batman bursts out of the chair and the page where he punches the Joker in the face near the end look so lifeless.

I really am enjoying Dini's run though.

Scarecrow issue next month which should be good (as long as it's not just a "bursts out of Arkham...ends up back in Arkham at the end of the issue" type story. I don't htink Dini's writing this one either though.

I thought this issue was great, and I have been really enjoying Dini’s run over all. His Batman stories are so fresh and original. I was at first hesitant about Zatanna appearing in a Batman book because she can too often become “Deus Ex Zatanna” and take any conflict out of a story, but I liked how Dini used her here. I thought that her choice of spell to get out of the tank was especially interesting.

Because everybody said so many good things about them, I picked up Tec #833 & 834 last week, and read them last night.

Okay, these finally won me over.

I had been reluctant to pick them up earlier because...

a) I hadn't been overly impressed by Dini in the past.

b) People raved about the Harley issues too, so I picked them up and thought, "eh."

c) I prefer my Batman to be outside the super-hero realm. So I wasn't so sure about the Zatanna guest-spot.

But I'm glad I broke down and got them. Excellent story, and I liked the art too (unlike some of you, evidently). Y'know, it's weird. I had read here about the Joker being involved, yet I got so wrapped up in the first part, I forgot all about that and was actually surprised when he appeared. Great use of the character, btw.

I guess I'm going to have to eat my words and pick up some of Dini's back issues. Thinking about getting the trade.

The majority of Dini's issues do write him outside the super-hero realm (especially the stories with the Riddler) so there's a good chance you'll enjoy them.
