I was hoping that someone on this forum would be able to answer a question for me that i've been wondering about for some time.

Why is it that, and i will be using Marvel as an example, the american price for new books is $2.99, but the canadian price is either $3.75 or $4.25? No i understand the exchange rate and all, but why would 2.99 usd = both 3.75 and 4.25 cnd? Wouldn't it make more sense for it to just be either one or the other each time? When a book is $3.99 american, it is always $4.75 canadian. So why the price flux?

any other countries have this going on as well?

I heard the Australian dollar is weak as well and over there its 5 bucks nearly a pop for comics. I know that the exchange rates go up and down a lot. The Canadian dollar is at a better rate and many want the comics priced to match it now.

Here in Australia, a $3US comic costs between $5-$5.75. It's a pretty hefty price for 22 pages. Unfortunately, this has resulted in me turning to trades, whichc work out substantially cheaper (usually at least $5-$10 less than buying the issues).

I never pay $4.25 anymore, but another price adjustment would be nice.

Marvel's trades are ridiculous, apparently their attitude is that the Canadian dollar will drop eventually, so they might as well gouge us terribly. I swore off of them for a few months, then found that Chapters automatically discounts for that, so I'm able to buy the trades at a reasonable price now.

I'm happy that my retailer now charges us cover on all books, especially graphic novels.
