I was just thinking about the scope of the older female in comics, ok, superhero comics
In my entirely non-researched, with absolutely-no-thought-deeper-than-providing-a-punchline survey, I have concluded that there are three types of Older Women characters in comics.

Those that are Immortal and still look like they're in their late 20s.... Aunt May... and Amanda Waller.

All I can say is, thank God for the Wall.

How are you defining older? Over 40 or senior citizen age?

Over 40ish?

You left out the women who are introduced as old and become inexplicably younger and better-looking as time goes on.

Iris Allen, Dr. Ashley Kafka, Jonah Jameson's wife...surely I'm forgetting some.

Aunt Petunia... sort of.

After years and years of being referenced by Ben Grimm as being an old, maiden aunt, Byrne decides to finally show her on panel-- as a young hottie. A clunker of an idea in the otherwise superb and creepy FF tale "Wendy's Friends".

Aunt May is Bad Ass.

Between arsenic-cookie Aunt May and The Golden Oldie, there's no way she couldn't be the baddest old lady in comics.

She has some stiff competition from Frau Totenkinder.

Good call. And on that note, Mignola's Baba Yaga from the Hellboy books is a tough broad. And Hecate, too, but she's one of those "old, immortals who stay young," so she doesn't count.

How about women who are young when they're introduced, but get older as the series goes on? There are various such characters in Love & Rockets, For Better or for Worse, and, I assume, Gasoline Alley.

No mention of Ma Hunkel yet? For shame; the woman's in her eighties and still managed to throw a good right hook or two.

I forgot Callisto from the Morlocks. She's certainly not elderly, but she's definitely got to be in her 40s or older.

She's another one who was introduced as looking rather hideous, and as time went on, slowly morphed into an attractive woman with an eye patch.

Older women dont appeal to the male base that buys comics. This is why female characters hardly age.

In current continuity, Black Canary is still the daughter of the original, right? If so, they should bring back the original. She should be contemporary in age to Ted Grant and Jay Garrick, gray hair and all, but still a bad-ass, still sexy and still sexual. Dinah having to deal with her mother being back would be lots of fun, especially if Mom started dating somebody like Conner Hawke or Roy Harper.

Hey She Hulk is in her 30s. Her age was listed in a Bryne issue. Clea has white hair. I doubt she's in her 20s with white hair. She doesn't seem the platinum blond type like Black Cat. Vanessa Fisk is in her 40s to early 50s. Gordan's wife was supposed to be in her 40s. Still, come on with the fear of characters getting married I don't see why lack of aging is a prob? Lets face it from supes to Spider man people get mad when a hero gets married. ASo why worry about something realistic as aging? Thanx for your time.

Well, of course Iris Allen wasn't really introduced as old -- she was introduced as young Barry's girlfriend -- but I get what you mean.

Mystique has got to be close to the same age as Wolverine but of course she's a shapeshifter so she can look as old or young as she wants.

of course she seems to have more respect and love for older people .

And Callisto was actually drawn pretty hot by Larroca i think during her Excalibur era.
tentacles and all.

In all fairness, Callisto's changes in appearance owed in part to Masque. Morlocks underwent a ritual of changing their original faces when they joined up, choosing less savory appearances. Masque even toyed with Callisto's looks a time or two, vaccillating between homely eyepatched woman and fashion model hottie. Despite the utter "Dyke On Bikeness" of early Callisto, I always envisioned her being played by a grizzled Cher in the movies.

Thanks, Dania Ramirez. ;) :)

first seeing a real life women with an eyepatch is very creepy and then they would have to find a real actress in hollywood to either ugly herself up or actually be that ugly, which i just can't see happening.

Like Destiny. I guess she doesn't count because she hasn't been around for awhile but she was elderly and kind of cool. Of course I like everybody from Freedom Force.

Maybe it was meant to be ironic, or a comment on governments teaming up with unsavoury people/mercenaries to further their own ends... ie South American oppressors being labeled 'Freedom Fighters' in the 80's (around the time Freedom Force showed up).
