Okay, I liked the first issue, but I have a particular complaint about Merlyn's Green Arrow shrine - why would he have a framed pic of GA/GL finding Roy shooting up? I know, it's the cover to GL #85, but talk about busting down the fourth wall! Bugged the hell out of me. Anyone else? :evilangry

Because unknown to Ollie,Roy, and Hal; Merlyn was the lamp.

I was just glad someone remembered that Black Canary was taking care of Sin. She didn't seem to care too much about her "retirement" in JLA.

yeah it bugged me too. Also how old is Sin? Maybe I'm overprotective with my kids but these days you can't be too carful, I'd never leave my 8yr old too play alone in a busy restaraunt while I went off to powder my nose.

The only thing that bothered me about this issue was Merlyn being so obsessive over Ollie. I liked the old dynamic, where Ollie admired Merlyn's archery when he was an athlete, and then had to face him as a villain years later. This new one, where Merlyn's first defeat at the hands of Green Arrow comes while he's dressed like Elvis? Goofy and fun, yeah, but a crappy addition to the character.

Oh, and where the hell has Spyder been? It's been years since Ollie took his eye and he had to retrain himself to be at least as good an archer as him with just one eye, I think it's time he made his comebacl.

Thankfully.

With any luck they'll get rid of Sin altogether and then nobody will have to worry about writing or ignoring her.

hehehe

That's what I was thinking too. It's OK for an issue or two... maybe even this mini... but then Canary needs to be kid free.

Yeah, but they've already ignored the majority of Seven Soldiers, so I doubt anyone will notice The Spider showing up again since his death was only mentioned in passing by his brother.

The Shade also mentioned that he was going to kill the Spider at the end of the Starman series. The Spider being a Ludlow and killing people in Opal, neither of which sits very well with the Shade. So there's a second off-screen death.

Or was that a different Spider?

Nope, same Spider, but we never see or hear his death confirmed, and only a short while after the series ends, we see Spider again in a Hawkman crossover with Green Arrow.

Certain people have ignored SS, but others have not.

so I doubt anyone will notice The Spider showing up again since his death was only mentioned in passing by his brother. We saw the corpse I believe pinned to the wall.

Nah, that's not a photo, it's a famous DCU painting by the great superhero artist Adam Neils, best known for his pencil and ink pictures of the urban legend the Batman.

How old is black canary anyway?

I mean her mom was at least in her 20s durring the 40s which would make her a baby boomer.

So its famous in the DCU as well? All the characters have seen it and its readily obtainable by any super villain how wants to frame it and put it on his desk?

It was a stupid thing to include in that panel, no character in the DCU would have access to that sort painting.

LMAO! That is the only feasible answer, I'm afraid.

Merlyn SO has a boy crush on Ollie.

I'll bet he spends date night trying to recreate Ollie's famous chili recipe, too.

I thought the same thing! Although, the playground in the restaurant wasn't half as bad as sending her off to fetch an ice bucket in a fleabag motel...

I know--I saw Dinah in the ladies's room and I was like "WHAT?!?!??!"

I bet Tony Bedard doesn't have any kids.

Wasn't Sin raised in the deadliest ninja village in the world?

I think she can handle the n'er-do-well toughs that frequent the restaurants of the world.

Probably. But you can argue that Black Canary is a public id superhero and her loved ones are always at risk.

That said, this really is a minor quibble to me. Issue #1 was pretty solid to me.

No matter what, she's still a little kid. Some of BC's enemies could certainly take on even the best trained child. Heck, even Roy has bodyguards watching Lian everywhere she goes, he even has them sitting outside her freinds houses if she has a sleep over, you'd think Dinah would be just as careful.

If the ex-hubby could tail the two of them, and no good villain could.

Her exact age doesn't matter, since she was lazarus-pitted. Reduces you to about 25, physically.

Wikipedia:In Birds of Prey #7, Oracle provides Dinah with an electronic version of the Canary Cry. In Birds of Prey #34, Black Canary, who is dating a mysterious European named "Raymond", who Oracle guesses – correctly – is actually supervillain Ra's al Ghul), is seriously wounded and immersed in a Lazarus Pit. Birds of Prey #35 reveals that the Pit restored Dinah's metahuman Canary Cry. (Also restored is Dinah's ability to have children — this was impaired several years earlier; the recovery is implied but not explicitly stated in the issue.)

Right I forgot about that!
What is the dcu time anyway? The JLA supposedly formed something like 11 years ago at least(based on that issue of Kyles GL run where hal comes back from 10 years ago) and thats when canary met making her still a bit too old.

Its trivial thing but it makes me wonder how DC is going to handle JSA connections in the future.

i liked this issue. flipped through it at the shop and made my mind up to get it, which probably means i'll be on board throughout the "Wedding" event.
