Why is nightwing leaving? and how the hell does Batman join the outsiders, I thought he worked Gotham full-time?

Wow. if that's the team, I'll pass thanks. I'm intrigued by the idea of catwoman being on the team- if it's Selina- but the rest of the team is a real snorefest.

I'm glad Nightwing is off. If he does not get the chance to join the JLA then the only other team I want him in is the Titans. It was mistake to put him and Aresenal here.

So...Martian Manhunter and Catwoman are on the Outsiders? I wonder if this has anything to do with their positions on the 2nd countdown teaser.

This lineup tracks with the Five of a Kind mini coming up:

Boomerang (not Nightwing)
Katana (not Captain Marvel)
Martian Manhunter (not Thunder)
Metamorpho (not Aquaman)
Grace (not Wonder Woman)

And then Catwoman as the last-minute addition in Outsiders #50.

Two questions arise. Why all the talk of Batman and Nightwing working together if it's not going to happen? And why run the house ad this month and spoiler the mini-series in August?

I really hope that Nightwing's exclusion means that someone's going to put the elder Titans back together, and perhaps Thunder can join them.

there was talk of an elder Titans series (Nightwing/Donna/Cyborg/Starfire/Beast Boy) but I don't know if that's a go with the current Countdown plans. That Outsiders team sucks - not that the current one is much better anyway. How can Batman be in three teams? MM should be in the JLA - trade them with the Outsiders on that team (Black Lightning, Geo Force, & Red Arrow).

This lineup actually intrigues me enough that I'll check the series out.

Outside of Martian Manhunter and Catwoman, the new lineup doesn't interest me that much. Most of them could use a big costume overhaul or at least make them use cool looking uniforms.

Personally I don't think that looks all that good. I like the current team but I am a little behind... meaning I haven't read any countdown so I don't know. I will be catching up when I get back from vacation.

I didn't really want a change to the existing lineup. And failing that, I liked the idea of Batman and Nightwing on the same team, as Winick has teased in the past. But I do think this is a good team. And in particular, the dynamic of Selina on a team led by Bruce ought to be fascinating.

Countdown has nothing to really do with outsiders.

yeah- katana's outfit- i don't know what it is- i kind of like it, but it doesn't look quite right to me. And what's up with metamorpho?

It looks like a good combination of the various Outsider eras, Katana, Metamorpho and Batman from the Barr era, Grace and Captain Boomerang from the Winnick era and brand new inductees Catwoman and J'onn.

Countdown has nothing to really do with outsiders.
Countdown has nothing to do with anything, which is why it's related to everything. I realized the other day that it's basically the Catch-22 policy (from the novel, Catch-22):

Yossarian comes to realize that Catch-22 does not actually exist, but that because the powers that be claim it does, and the world believes it does, nevertheless, it has potent effects. Indeed, because it does not exist there is no way it can be repealed, undone, overthrown, or denounced.

This line up actually interests me enough that I may pick up the book. I was just never interested in the previous line up. Yeah I have weird tastes, I don't like "cartoony" style Metal Men but I like an Outsiders team made up of well...outsiders.

No it wasn't the book rocked until DC's decision to take Arsenal off it now it's going bite without Nightwing.

I think for this to be interesting that has to be the Selina Kyle Catwoman. Then there can be some kind of inevitable conflict between her and her former disciple, Holly, which might explain the Catwomany part of the "Evil Rising" poster.

But then there's Martian Manhunter there and we know he's part of that "Evil Rising" thing too. And he's all... daggery in that. So backtracking it almost makes more sense that Holly is in that Kitty suit. But the flipside of that is that I can't see Bats wanting to work with a rank amatuer like Holly.

As for this "sucking" without Nightwing? I mean... I don't think that's inevitable. Its not like Batman and The Outsiders hasn't worked before.

According to Wikipedia the original membership was:

* Batman
* Black Lightning
* Geo-Force
* Halo
* Katana
* Metamorpho

So this new team is kinda familiar, right? At least in a historical context. I mean its only relatively recently that The Outsiders became a "graduating class" for the Titans instead of its own thing. And why is that even necessary when they all inevitably rejoin the Titans sooner or later anyway?

I can't stand Grace. Never have. And Martian Manhunter doesn't fit anywhere but the JLA.

I really do think dc shot their foot on this one because now I dont think I'm gonna bother getting the new member one shots since we already know who is gonna be on the team. Also seems dumb to advertise for a team that doesnt even have a creative team yet.

Exactly. I'm not one of those fools that buy anything Batman is in. I wanna at least know if there is any credible talent on the book.

I am most definetly interested if this is the new lineup. I loves me some Martian Manhunter, and having Batman and Catwoman on a team together would be great. I'm not too familiar with Katana, but I like her new outfit, she definetly looks cool now.

I do want to know the creative team though...I dont HATE Winnick, but I would rather see somebody else on this.

Well it looks like I'm only going to get one DC book a month. Nightwing is the only thing I like about DC, so I hope they put Nightwing in JLA or start a new team with him as the leader so I can keep getting two books.

This line-up (if it is, indeed, the new line-up) seems more in spirit of what the original theme of the Outsiders was, when it was actually a comic book worth reading. Not just a place to stick former Titans who have outgrown the "Teen".

And best of all, no Bastard Lightning!

Maybe Tony Isabella is the new writer.:evilsmile

Rumors point to Peter Tomasi, I don't understand the secrecy and why Tony Bedard is actually writing the formation of the team.

I think Metamorpho has a Queer Eye for the Straight Guy look.

Is it really Nightwing? I left the book after a few issues, and I thought the Outsiders' Nightwing was Jason, not Dick.

I don't particularly read the Outsiders myself, however my knowledge of the team comes from appearances in other books. The current Supergirl was a member of the Outsiders and during that time it was said that nightwing was Dick, that and all Kara's flirtations and such. So if it was really Dick or not really depends on whether or other titles follow the story of the team closely.

If there was ever any doubt, the most recent issue of Outsiders makes it clear that Nightwing is Dick Grayson. Either that or he's got Batman fooled! ;)

I think the confusion comes from the fact that Nightwing wasn't acting like himself in the first few OYL issues. Fans speculated that they were written at the time that Dick was scheduled to be killed in IC and Jason was on line to replace him.

That makes sense. I stopped buying the book in those early OYL issues.
