View Full Version : Great powers, shame about the codename.

So you've been blessed with the mutant gene & you've got all these fancy powers & you've just invested all your savings in a natty, unstable molecule costume. Your off to the big time! Hooray!
But you haven't hired a top class PR firm to come up with a super hot code name for youself, so you scramble around for the something to call yourself. You look in the dictionary & flick through magazines to get an idea, but you end up with something truely dire & embarrassing & small children laugh & point at you in the street.
Which X-related chatacters have been lumbered with the worst codenames of all time?
My top jobs:
SKIDS: Oh dear. Here in the UK "skids" is slang for sh** stains in your undergarments! The poor girl has been living in a sewer for most of her life & then she gives herself a handle which is the by-product of not wiping yourself properly.....
VINDALOO: Calling yourself after a hot curry, doesn't really instill great terror in an opponent, unless your up against "Princess Vegan" or "Food Allergy Lad"
LIFEGUARD: mmmmmmm. It's just a bit lame really, but then the character wasn't exactly top class. She should have called herself "Super-duper-can-do-anything-lass" plus Lifeguard is a name of a toilet cleaner product (with added limescale remover & a pine fresh smell!)
MAMMOMAX: I don't really need to add anything else.....:(
Any others........

Maggott... - I althought what else you'd call him I don't know. Weevil Lad?
Boomer/ Boom - Boom - Makes her sound about 7years old
Thunderbird III - He has no connection to the previous 2 Thunderbird and his powers aren't remotely similar either

'Marvel Girl'. It's like a lead weight attached to Jean's neck pulling her down over the years.

I gotta admit I'm not a huge fan of Vics codename. I virtually never call him 'Anole'. It just looks and sounds a bit weird, even though it's fitting what with his lizard-like abilites (although Anoles don't have the flicky tongues or spikes). I suppose there aren't many other options for him though. Komodo sounds cool, it works for her but I've just never hugely taken to 'Anole'. I don't HATE it though...
'Armor' and 'Match' are a bit lame too.

Mister Sinister... he's a bad guy right? just making sure.
Strong Guy... what can he do again? Telepathy?
Iceman... he rides on a icetruck from the icestation and puts out ices.

I like Anole - it's different & it's suits him.

I'm hoping you're being sarcastic in a parody thread otherwise I've sounded like a patronising idiot... :o

Also, the Thunderbird is a native American folk figure. The nearest Hindu equivalent is the Garuda.

Still the suckiest Acolyte of all time, fire likepowers (now if his power was to cause flame like discharges from his foes mouth and or read I would understand). Whichever writter was on that day must have had Indian for lunch (his side kick might be Korma girl or Rogan Gosh), either that or Mags was really hungry that day "and you shall be Vindaloo... now go make one"

I don't like Switch's codename, it's bland and generic. He needs something more fabulous.
The Nasty Boys' codenames always remind me of gay sex. "Here's a slab of meat for ya, gorgeous. Lemme ram that rod 'til you be screamin' a ruckus. Damn, my hairbags always get in the way." But I love Ruckus as a codename and I wouldn't change any of the other Nasty Boys simply for that ghay factor.
Not an X-Character, but I always liked Poundcakes as a character. However, her name has GOT TO GO. Seriously, POUNDCAKES?

Sinister makes sense, if you see the mini which tells his origins.
Strong Guy was supposed to be funny.
And Iceman is pretty cool.
Anyway, codenames that suck:
Thunderbird III
Marvel Girl (and most codenames with Marvel on their name)
Armor
Omega Sentinel (which is OK if you're a villain, but as an X-man is not a good idea).

Omega Sentinel is more like the villain option in the Xmen legends game when you're sparring with the danger room.
She should've had something cool like.....i dunno Malice

I like Anole
So does Richard Gere.
Especially with hamsters.

Yeah, when I think "Omega Sentinel", I'm thinking of some 50 foot tall uber Sentinel.

Bogan - worst name ever, in Aust it sorta means redneck; just think of racist phobes with VERY heavy aust accents who are none too smart.

I hate the name Gentle.
He looks cool and all, and there was so much mystery and intrigue, and his real name would've been a good codename--but he's Gentle. Oknothx.

Mr. M, very plain name for such a cool and powerful character.

I'm going to go with Thunderstrike (More pay for Thunder?)
Last time I checked Thunder doesn't actually strike anything, and the lightning that does has already gone before you even hear Thunder.
And he was maybe the lamest character ever.
And for people like me with teen movie humour tastes, anyone with Wind in their name gets more than a few laughs.:D
And Charybdis4, I'm from the UK too and I never really connected with the Skids thing until you said. I shan't be able to read old X-Factor anymore without laughing.

My thought went out to T-Bird III imidiately. He is a great guy with cool powers but his name gave him the impopularity he currently has, a shame because he's kind of cool I think.

I back everyone who said Omega Sentinel, also because the name Karima Shapandar sounds THAT much cooler.
I never liked the name 'Mastermind'. That name fits a mad scientist or a genius baron. Mastermind was neither a telepath nor a particularly bright bulb. I think a more fitting name for him would be something that tells about his powers of illusion.

Icefalcon - I sincerely apologise for ruining your X-Factor memories :D Perhaps you could Tipex out her name in all your old issues & replace it with something not connected with bad toilet habits.....
Mr Sinister is also a bit lame. Talk about being really full of yourself!
Blockbuster - Why call yourself after a video rental shop? Do the other Marauders hire him for missions on a "2 nightly" basis with a giant sized bottle of Diet Coke & a bag of potato chips!

Beast-
sure it fits a little bit better now that he's all furry, but when he was just slightly abnormal in girth for his age it seems a bit unfair.
not that the original five had the greatest code names.
Beast and Cyclops just sound like insults you'd hear in grade school.

Why? The Biblical Nimrod was "a mighty hunter."

Jean Grey - worst codename ever. ;)
And I like Archangel better than Angel.
Shadowcat is kinda lame too. She never could get a good one.
