Were the final few issues of the series ever collected into a TPB? Amazon's not showing it, if so. Or is it still forthcoming?

The final issue hasn't even been released yet.

Next you're going to tell me the second Danger Girl TPB hasn't been released, either.
Thanks.

Is there any required reading before one can enjoy the first TPB?

Not really. Some Wildstorm people like Jenny Sparks, the High and Henry Bendix and Wildstorm concepts like the Bleed are mentioned during the series, but usually these are just short mentions or explained.

Still one issue to go.
And Planetary is pretty much self contained. Like Dizzy said, they mention some other Wildstorm characters....mostly from Ellis's Stormwatch and Authority....but nothing that I would say is required.

Thanks to both of you.
First came Stormwatch, then Authority and then Planetary, in that order?
I might get back to these titles once I found out about Planetary.

Authority and Planetary first came out at about the same time originally. I think both first issues came out about a month apart from each other...Planetary's just taken a LONG time to finish.

Stormwatch led into the Authority (while Stormwatch: Team Achilles and Stormwatch: PHD are/were their own separate entities, concurrant with the Authority.)
Planetary is pretty much unrelated to either of the two. They take place in the same universe, but you really don't need to know anything about it. It (in trade form) was my gateway into the Wildstorm universe.
Planetary was my first Wildstorm title also. I was able to understand everything well enough to really get into the awesome stories and art. After Planetary, I went back to Stormwatch and Authority, which showed more about the bleed and some minor Planetary characters. It was cool then because I was like, hey, I know this stuff from Planetary! So go out and pick up Planetary already!
Now if only #27 could finally ship. Ellis said he's all done so we're waiting on a break in Cassaday's schedule to get the art finished up. It was disappointing that the issue wasn't on the November solicits... hopefully December...
