Guys I just reread the 1997 mini Genesis and of course we had the universe completly destroyed but put back together in the same way (according to the recap of events fromt he last few pages of #4). Also look at the last panel and what Metron says.
I know this might be a stretch to bring Genesis in somehow but I was just wondering your thoughts?
Events where the DC U was "destroyed" and recreated in one fashion or another:
COIE
Zero Hour
Genesis
IC
52
Is there others I can not think of?

Let's hope not. GENESIS was one of the most forgettable crossovers DC or anybody else has ever done. Even its creator John Byrne probably looks back at it with some embarrassment now.

JLA/Avengers had the universes destroyed and recreated, right?

Yes, and technically, so did the DC VS. MARVEL crossover from the mid-1990s.

Was Genesis tied to that wretched Cosmic Odyssey?

I don't think so. GENESIS was done a good decade or so after COSMIC ODYSSEY, and GENESIS was so bad that it made COSMIC ODYSSEY look good by comparison. Darkseid was deeply involved in both, however.
By general consensus, I think most of DC fandom considers GENESIS, hands down, the worst crossover series ever.

BA, while I agree it was that bad I am still worried that Darkseid's heavy involvement and Metron's statements on the last panel will cause us all some problems. Hopefuly not.

There were a couple time tales in JSA in which the DCU were changed.

I wouldn't worry much about it. I believe that DC editorial wants to forget about GENESIS as much as any of the fans. It's one of the few crossovers series of the past twenty years to *not* be collected into a TPB...a clear indication of DC's acknowledgement that this series was a dud.
And although DC gets routinely criticized for its decisions these days, it's doubtful they'd drag out elements of one of their least successful and least popular projects ever for use again.
I wouldn't even be surprised of the whole GENESIS affair was quietly retconned out of continuity by one of Superboy Prime's retcon punches...or the formation of the new Multiverse.

The only thing about GENESIS that survives today is that Highfather (of the New Gods) is still dead.
That's all it contributed to the DCU, basically.

I actually went through my collection last night and was amazed to see that I have it. I have absolutely no recollection of buying it or reading it. I may as well read it, just to see if any elements are reprised. After all, it won't cost me anything but time. Thanks for clearing up my memory.

Wow. I know I have this and can't recall anything but the logo. Can anybody do a quick recap?

Please no...the only thing worse than a lame story is causing headaches by retconning it rather than just ignoring it.

I can't imagine Phil Collins cares too much about what's going on in the DC Universe.

I'm a huge '90s DCU fan, and even I can't recall a damn thing about this series other than a Godwave bouncing back and supposedly giving people super powers. Honestly, I know I bought all of this, but I just can't remember. It doesn't help that it occured between the excellent Final Night and One Million, '90s crossovers at their finest.
When Bloodlines impacted the DCU more substantially, you know you had a rotten event.

GENESIS was of such little consequence, however, that even if it has been retconned out, it wouldn't even register much on the continuity of the DCU at all. All it would amount to is removing this eyesore from the timeline.
GENESIS was the anti-CRISIS: world's didn't live, world's didn't die, and the DCU didn't change forever.

If I remember correctly, Highfather died and replaced by the (extremely lame) Takion.

The only thing I remember liking about Genesis was that (I think) Ares was the big bad. It's not very often a Wonder Woman villain is the head of the major crossover-dealie.
Unfortunately, as has been stated, the crossover sucked on toast. I remember hating this crossover and the JL? crossover, but I don't believe I'm confusing the two. I'm not going back to check, however. I couldn't stand the pain.

Although I didn't like the event at all, my world wouldn't end if a small part of "Genesis" carried over into Countdown/Final Crisis.
However, if I so much as read "No man escapes the Manhunters," my comics become a bonfire and I smash Piggy's head with a long box.

Genesis? If DC paid them enough, they could provide the soundtrack ;)
