I don't read Green Lantern or GLC, but I read the Sinestro Corps special and my socks were blown off, so I'm gonna be getting into this storyline.
So did I miss them asking Scarecrow? Has anyone brought this up before?
I was reading that the Sinestro Corps offered Batman a ring based on his ability to instill great fear, I was thinking, "Isn't the Scarecrow um the fear guy? He should totally be on this team"
And it wouldn't be weird that the Lanterns are tangling with a Batman villian since after all, they teamed up with the Cyborg Superman so why not one of Bruce's big bads?
You'd think the Scarecrow would have a bigger profile in general now that I think of it, after all he was the star of the most recent and well recieved movie, but I guess that's a topic for another time. I just would like to know if crane was asked.

maybe they have a rule agaisnt using gas?
I mean, these guys usually work in a vacuum, I doubt that Scarecrow's stuff would be that effective.

In our sector Batman was the most intimidating figure and after him who knows, maybe Scarecrow wasn't at the top of the list.

So basically Scarecrow's jobbing again. He's not scary enough without hallucinogens? He's not even on the map where as Bruce is numero uno?

Other than Joker, Batvillains in general don't seem to be very respected across the DCU. I figure the Sinestro Corps would just look at Crane as someone below their level.

Yeah, he really doesn't instill fear, his gas does

This is my take too. Sinestro seems to be looking for people who can instill fear naturally because of who they are. Batman instills fear because of who he is. Scarecrow, on the other hand, can't naturally instill fear without his fear toxins.
Though Scarecrow is very knowledgeable about fear. So it would be cool if he was the Sinestro Corps' consultant or something.

I thought about this too, but in addition to the reasons mentioned above, Crane doesn't really fit the type of story they're trying to tell. He's a bit too street-level.
Can you imagine him flying through space with a burlap sack over his head?

The Sinestro Corps!
The greatest Green Lantern that ever lived gone rogue!
A living city!
A sentient virus!
The embittered son of Abin Sur!
The Cyborg Superman!
Mothereffing PARALLAX in Kyle Ryner's body!
Homicidal emo Superboy-Prime!
and last but not least
The freaking Anti-Monitor!
What makes you think there's room for a guy who dresses like a scarecrow on this roster?

If you're argument is that he's not epic enough, most of those guys are much goofier looking than a guy who looks like a scarecrow.
Crane, at his core, is a terrible coward and thus would be useless in the Sinestro Corps. He'd buckle under stress and flee combat as soon as the odds looked poor.

My arguement was, and still is, that he's a gimmicky 2nd (or even 3rd) rate Batman villain... when you can't get Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Bane, Ra's-Al Ghul, or even Killer Croc you get Scarecrow. Yeah, there's a fair number of goofy looking folks in the Sinestro Corp but at least they're legitimate threats. For Batman fear is a manifesto, for Scarecrow fear is a hobby. And that's why Batman got the nod easily over Scarecrow.

I think Scarecrow could become a threat if a writer really tried. He DID create his own version of martial arts using his agility. And if he found a more convenient method to distribute his gas, he'd be formidable.
But not in space. :D

You forgot the Killer Snail Sniper who eats people.
The Evil Saw toothed Kilowog who eats people.
The crazy bint who cut her lips off, who eats people.
The Jelly Starfish who eats people.
Scarecrow doesn't eat people, hence no ring for him.
I mean sheesh look at the mass group shot, 2/3 of them look like they eat people. The other 1/3 just no how to hide it.

So basically the concensus is that Scarecrow sucks too much? As much as I'd argue against that I'll just go with it. Hence he's jobbing again. They could have easily taken this oppurtunity to prop him up a level and give him an actual corse in fear. The Sinestro Corps could put him through an initiation rite to basically put him on par with some of the names already on the team.
Somewhere along the line I realized that's basically all the Sinestro Corps is made of. Names that "inspire fear", but no one who actually intimidates without saying "I've got these crazy powers! Growl!"

Imagine that - in space. I dunno about you guys, but it'd crap myself. Or crap on it, or just crap, in general.
And don't tell me that clowns in space doesn't have promise. I think Killer Klowns from Outer Space proved there are possibilities.

and basically how would crane send gas in the space with no air to diffuse it'd go back to his face and he would pee thinking about how much he's afraid of bats...

For those who do not know Batman, his mere presence alone is scary, and he even scares some of his friends. Scarecrow induces fear though external chemical means, not through his own personae.

Scarecrow kicks ass! Still, he wouldn't fit into the Sinestro Corps at all. It has nothing to do about how "cool" he is, some characters just don't fit into every story.

I'd say Ras Al Ghul is respected as well, but I agree.

IIRC, the Elseworlds Scarecrow from JSA: The Liberty Files was a cannibal.

Then Joker will just get a ring of his own and beat Crane for stealing his shtick.

Bumping this thread to say: SCAREBEAST.
They seem to have gotten rid of Scarebeast, but I think he should be brought back and given a yellow ring.
