Would anybody be opposed to having the Monarch that appeared in Armagedon and Extreme Justice actually being this one, the former Captain Atom. Think about it, it could make sense that the whole Hawk/Real Nate Adams thing was always just a smokescreen for his real plans and everything Monarch did over the last decade+ was just setting his plans in motion for now. Even fighting with himself could've been just a setup to get where he needs to be now in Countdown, where he thinks he's fighting for the greater good. The only rough spot would be Exant, but just make him the real Hank Hall driven mad when Monarch used him and that clears that up

Yeah it is the real Captain Atom this time. He needed the armor to keep his powers under control after he came back from the Wildstorm Universe at the end of the "Captain Atom: Armageddon" mini series. He reappeared on the regular DCU Earth in the "Battle for Bludhaven" mini seiries and his powers were to strong to contain so they put him in the suit. Can't really remember if they ever said where the suit came from and if they found it or made it. In the "Ion" mini series when Kyle was thrown into the Bleed he found Cap there in the armour fighting and after helping him drive the baddies bakc Cap took of his helmet to talk to Kyle face to face. Cap talked about hiding from the Moniters in the Bleed since they could not see in there and he told Kyle about the multiverse.
I really liked Captain Atom before this. He was a really interesting character, especially during his ongoing from the 80's.
The Armageddon mini and now this Monarch idea just shows me that DC's editors really don't understand the character or what to do with him. And that's disappointing.

Agreed. Monarch isn't as interesting enough concept to really justify losing Captain Atom, especially when you consider how JLU raised Cap's profile. I know he's no John Stewart, but it ought to count for somethin'.
