View Full Version : Comics (Toys) Should Be Good

I love action figures. Always have. HATE the idea of buying something and leaving it in the bloody box, rip them open and get your hands dirty. Prefer Playmobil to Lego. I'm not into building, just clip on the accessories and play.
These days, I buy comic-related action figures. They come out with some great ones these days. MEZCO, for eg, are to be highly applauded for their Hellboy and Popeye lines. That Poopdeck Pappy figure is great! I also love the Alex Ross JUSTICE line. It serves the purist in me although their Luthor could be a lot better... maybe in a power suit with a purple shirt?
Here is a list of toys I'd like to see:
A line of UNCLE SCROOGE figures based on Don Rosa's designs. (I suppose Barks-design as well, but I want my Rosa's now)
A line of Batman action figures based on the 1960s BATMAN show. How do they not have these yet? Imagine it, the Joker with a barely-concealed moustache. Varient Catwomen.
A KINGDOM COME Bruce Wayne. Complete with exo-skeleton, cane and enigmatic smile.
Shade from STARMAN, in proper Victorian chic.
Any other lines you'd like to see?

So right and then so wrong...
What on earth is the point of buying a toy and then leaving it in the packaging. That's just speculation - which is for leaches.
But Lego is so much better than Playmobil.

There's already a Spider Jerusalem doll. (Note correct terminology.)
Really, I can't think of any comic character that I'd like to see more in toy form, and DC beat me to it.

I, too, would be keen as mustard to see these.
Alas, Levitz HATES the 60's Batman. HATES.
Still, a series of dollies based on well-known tv versions of their characters.
Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman, Adam West's Batman, Christopher Reeve's Superman. How cool would a Superman multipack featuring Christopher Reeve, George Reeves, Kirk Alyn, Dean Cain and Josh Hartnett?

Heh, I love it... though the ones I'd really groove on are probably too obscure to be viable: Milton Berle Louie the Lilac and Vincent Price Egghead.

Just thought of another one.
A mini Bat-signal for your desk. A real one! Switch it on, see the Bat on the ceiling!
Use it in the office instead of intercom to call over your workmates!
Sure, you'll rack up the power bill switching that thing on and off day in day out, but you can't buy that kind of nerdy euphoria! (except that, you would)

I used to be big into toys, but then I sort of phased out of them after I got all my favorite Marvel Legends characters.
However, there's only one (non nostalgia related) toy worth it's weight in gold and that is the mighty Stikfa (http://www.stikfas.com/products.html).

That would actually be as awesome as can possibly be. They don't have any sort of miniature Bat signal? I swear I've seen some facsimile of one before, but it was probably expensive since it was a "collectible" and not a toy. Lame.

Roddy McDowell 'Bookworm' for me. And 'Egghead'.
Though I must admit, I'd love a 'King Tut'.

I agree that TV Batman would be awesome. I'd like a JLI series with Kevin Maguire inspired smirks on the characters, W3 figures, all of the original Blackhawks, and a series of transformed Jimmy Olsens.

The new one from the film I'm so apathetic about I still haven't seen.

My toy collecting mostly centers around Transformers and Marvel toys. I particularly like Marvel Legends, and thank any and all deities responsible for the manufacture of the Xorn toy. :)

Well sure, if building things is what gets your rocks on
For those of us who are horribly inmpatient, we just want to get straight into it, Snap on the accessories and Play!
I still seriously muse about buying a Playmobil Pirate ship now and then... One day.

Speaking as someone with kids, I can tell you it takes a good half an hour to assemble a new Playmobil set!
I still seriously muse about buying a Playmobil Pirate ship now and then... One day.

The building-things act IS getting right into it. You get twice the fun.

Its not just you...wooden acting is wooden acting, regardless who it is.
Like Stony, I'd love to see a Uncle Scrooge line of toys. There's a line of toys that Disney should've tapped when DuckTales was coming out and didn't capture.
I'd also like to see a Vertigo line of toys. Sure DC Direct did some toys of the Preacher characters and Spider Jerusalem, but how about a line of their former and current comics? I'd love to see an Agent Graves action figure, along with the other characters from 100 Bullets. Where the hell was the Invisibles line or a Seaguy figure (with a Chubby DaChoona accessory)?
At least I'm happy that the New Frontier toys are contiuing but give me characters I want! I love the Blackhawk figure (since its going to be most likely the only one to be made), but where's the King Faraday or Slam Bradleys...all the cool looking ones.
There's a million hero comic toys, make the cool ones.
Oh....also a Darwyn Cooke Spirit figure would be nice too
The Batman

Chris Reeve Superman and a Michael Keaton Batman would probably be all kinds of awesome. I've always wanted a Hawkworld style Hawkman and Hawkwoman too.
The World's Greatest Comic Heroes line that Marvel is putting out has got me excited because it looks like I might finally get a chance to have a really cool Judge Dredd figure.

Just an educated guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if a rights issue of some sort is the reason we haven't seen any "TV Batman" stuff. Apparently, tangled rights issues are the reason we haven't gotten DVDs of the show yet, and there might be something there precluding action figures.
Obviously, DC owns Batman and most of the characters, but it's possible that versions clearly designed to use recognizable elements of the TV show's particular versions of the characters would raise legal issues.
I'd also love to see Kingdom Come Bruce Wayne. That might just be my single favorite version of the character, ever....

I want X-Force/X-Statix figures. Doop is great and all, but not enough.
I would also totally dig some Atomics figures.

That could be wicked cool.

Should Stony buy this Grodd (http://www.dccomics.com/dcdirect/?dcd=3214&lst=all&cat=ACTION+FIGURES) or hold out for this Grodd (http://www.dccomics.com/dcdirect/?dcd=7902&lst=all&cat=ACTION+FIGURES)?
The JUSTICE one is bigger... But the calipers and skull make pretty snazzy accessories...

Seriously, Stony, the first one. Not only are the skull and calipers super-cool, but the lines of the figure just flow better. The second one doesn't look like the one character, he looks like a mishmash of parts.

So I finally bought Gorilla Grodd and... it's a hefty block of plastic, let me tell you. Very nicely sculptured, and an improvement on the Brian Bolland-illustration it was adapted from, imo
But he is... suprisingly well-hung. I suppose not for a gorilla, but for an action figure based on a family-friendly line of characters. I mean, it *could* just be an excess of overhanging fur but... it seems too well-centered for that.
Otherwise, a nice purchase!
I'll check the Alex Ross-version when it comes out. See if it, pardon the pun, measures up as well.
