Looking to Learn to Letter

I am just finishing up my first script and to make things simpler, I thought I would look into lettering myself. My goal is to find a pencil/inker and then i would do the writing/lettering to get something together to send to publishers. Anyway, are there any good sites to learn lettering, or any books worth looking at? What is the most common programs/practises for lettering?

For computer lettering, you need a vector-based program to ensure crisp edges. The industry standard is Adobe Illustrator.
