I am not sure how long Marvel will keep Spider-Man wearing the black costume. However, I want to ask which artist can draw and convey and capture the essence of Spider-Man in the black costume.

Plus what are the positives that this particular artist brings into pencilling Spider-Man. Would there be a difference in how he draws the Red and Blue Spider-Man ? Perhaps the way he approaches due to the mood.

I really do like Ron Garney's black costume- though not quite as much as I liked his Iron Spider. I can't say why, it just looks cool to me.

That said, George Perez draws the best.

I mean I've never SEEN him draw it, but George Perez draws EVERYTHING the best so I have no reason to assume otherwise. ;)

ron garney draws an awesome black costume...the eyes look very evil at times, and yes his iron spider was simply the best!

I guess I'm in the minority here but I think Garney's black costume is pretty bad, the wrong white pads shape, the white spider symbol looks weird, and sometimes Spidey's head has strange shape.

I enjoy Angel Medina's and Clayton Crane's Black costume, really sensational!

There's also a gorgeous three page spread of Hobgoblin chasing Alien Costume Spider-Man in Spectacular Spider-Man #189

At the present moment in Spidey´s history i´d say Clayton Crain(even though he is only doing covers)he´s awsome i just don´t understand why isn´t he given a position is Spidey´s books! The greatest drawer ever to me is RON FRENZ - When i think of black suit spidey this guy immediately comes to mind,it´s automatic when i imagine Spidey with his black suit on i see him drawn be Ron Frenz and I relate to one of the greatest periods in Spidey´s history,Post Secret Wars with the black suit!

I agree with Frenz. He is so criminally underrated for his 80's Spider-Man work.

I Think Ron Garney and Ron Frenz definitely draw the best Black Spider suit. I also think Garney drew the best Iron-Spider costume. You know what'd be really cool? Seeing Mark Bagley, John Romita Jr and Ron Frenz draw the Iron-Spider. I'd love to see their takes on it.

Agreed sir! Bagleys iron spider would be da shizz!

The original! I loved the way that Ron Frenz designed and drew the costume. It was defnitely Spidey, but you could tell by his mannerisms that something was a little 'different'.

Also, McFarlane I always thought was at his best in drawing this costume. In thnking about it, I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that McFarlane as an artist wasn't great at spotting his blacks, and this costume was nothing but blacks, allowing his pages and panels to 'jump' a little more than they usually did.

Mark bagley always drew the symibiote well on venom if that counts. There is no comparison between his Amazing run and Ultimate run because there are major differences in his art but his Ultimate black costume was cool enough but i sitll go with his venom being badass.

Now this is a long shot but tom lyle had a few good drawing of the black costume back inthe 90's

Garney's Black costume Spidey is great. It just looks so intense IMO. His Iron Spidey was even better.

I actually bought a black suit Spidey piggy bank recently, rather than the classic Spidey version (partially because it looks Garney-esque. :o :p )

Bagley's black suit Spider-Man is my next fav though.

There's a great issue of "Back Issue" out there dealing with Frenz' Spidey work, particularly his Black costume stuff. Great read, and it's got some amazing sketches and behind-the-scenes art as well.

Charles Vess had an awesome Web of Spider-Man rendition of the black costume.

No one mention Zeck yet?

I don't much care for Garney's Black spidey. It looks great but his eyes are always so narrow.

The best though.... Hmm tough question. Probably McFarlane.

Gotta go with Frenz. Though Zeck was great, too.

For me that would be Mike Zeck on the Kraven's Last Hunt story - gritty, dark, loved it!

My all time favorite black or red and blue would have to be the Skottie Young and Khary Randolph manga spider-man.

AS far as more mainstream I really enjoy Angel Medina.

(Sorry no picture of me modeling that one.)

And I really can't wait to see Bachalo's Spidey.

Yu, and who-ever did Kravens last hunt. Yu gets accused of not using enough detail, but his detail on things like musculature is just awesome. New Avengers 29, when they first grab Echo, Spidey looks great. Hope he stays in black.
